Hearing Jesus: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Prayer, Hearing God & Christian Affirmations

Saturday Contemplative: What Love Looks Like

Scripture: Luke 5:17–26

One of the signs of Resurrection life is the healing of what has been broken. In this episode, we reflect on the paralyzed man carried by his friends to Jesus and what this story teaches us about love, restoration, and faith.

This is a contemplative prayer episode about the kind of love that carries people to Jesus. It is also about the deeper healing Jesus brings, not just outward healing, but forgiveness, wholeness, and restoration at the soul level.

If you are carrying a broken relationship, longing for healing, or trying to love someone well, this episode offers space to bring those burdens to Jesus.

In this episode, we reflect on:

the friends who carried someone to Jesus

forgiveness as the beginning of healing

what it means to carry love in our relationships

Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 80: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus

There is an old cliché that talks about finally looking up at God once we hit rock bottom. But God’s heart is that you wouldn’t wait so long and that you would turn to Him for help because that’s truly the only way we will get through those hard seasons. Psalm 80 shows us how to pray when life is hard.

Today’s Key Verse:

Restore us, O Lord God Almighty, make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved. Psalm 80:19

Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 79: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus

Psalm 79 shows us a powerful example of intercessory prayer on behalf of Israel. Reminding God, through prayer, about His promises on behalf of others can be a way for us to feel like we can help in prayer when it seems like there is nothing we can do. Not unlike today, Israel was in a desperate situation spiritually, politically, and economically.

Today’s Key Verse:

Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake. Psalm 79:9

Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 78: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus

Psalm 78 covers 5 generations and showcases God’s mercy despite Israel’s unfaithfulness. As we learn from our spiritual ancestors, this psalm serves as a powerful reminder of what can happen if we continually test God’s mercy. Despite Israel’s rebellion, we still see a God who cares for His people. God’s patience for Israel also calls us to obedience today.

Today’s Key Verse:

They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.  Psalm 78:35

Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 77: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus

It is a very normal human experience to feel like God isn’t answering you sometimes. Even when we are desperate in prayer, it can sometimes feel like God isn’t there. What do we do? How do we walk through those seasons? In today’s Psalm, we talk about what to do when it feels like God has gone silent.

Today’s Key Verse:

You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.  Psalm 77:14

Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 76: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus

Today’s Psalm is a song of praise for what God did in the lives of the people of Judah. When we learn the character and nature of God from the Scriptures, it helps us to understand His character and nature today. I pray this episode blesses you. Remember that when you are up against impossible circumstances, our God is the God of the impossible.

Today’s Key Verse:

You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains.

Psalm 76:4 NLT

Saturday Contemplative: The Road That Changed Everything

Scripture: Acts 9:1–19

In this episode, we reflect on Saul’s encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus and the kind of grace that reroutes a life. Saul thought he was doing the right thing, until Jesus stopped him, confronted him, and called him into something new.

This contemplative prayer episode is for the person who wonders if their past has disqualified them. It is a reminder that Jesus does not waste our story. He meets us in our blindness, calls us by name, and gives us new purpose.

If you have felt too broken, too late, or too far gone, this episode invites you to sit with the truth that Jesus still changes everything.

In this episode, we reflect on:

Saul’s encounter with the risen Christ

how grace interrupts and redirects us

the truth that God can use even the most unlikely story

Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 75: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus

There are times in our lives where we pray for God to act quickly to deal with a situation. If God doesn’t act quickly though, it’s easy to allow frustration to settle in. Today we are looking at the theology of justice and how God intervenes on behalf of His people. Psalm 75 helps us to trust God when He doesn’t act as quickly as we would like.

Today’s Key Verse:

But it is God who judges; He brings one down, He exalts another. Psalm 75:7

Psalms for the Soul: Psalm 74: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional, Hearing Jesus

Israel had many seasons when they went through some really difficult situations. God can not and will not be silent about sin forever, but it’s really hard to deal with the consequences of community sin. Not unlike today, Psalm 74 addresses community sin and is a prayer that reminds us that God’s discipline in our lives is a result of His love for us.

Today’s Key Verse:

The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. Psalm 74:16
