This one had all the makings of an instant classic. The A’s answered Jo Adell’s first-inning three-run blast with back-to-back homers from Nick Kurtz and Shea Langeliers in the third, tying the game at 3-3 and sending the Sacramento crowd into a frenzy. Lawrence Butler’s sixth-inning homer and Luis Urías’s clutch RBI single knotted things at 5-5, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. The A’s had every chance to win it in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but Butler popped out to the catcher on the first pitch, and the opportunity evaporated. 

Extra innings turned into a disaster movie. With a ghost runner looming, the Angels went off for six runs in the 10th—Rengifo’s triple and Neto’s homer ripping the game wide open. What started as a seesaw slugfest ended in an 11-5 blowout loss, leaving fans stunned.
