Who is the most informed on key issues? Is it viewers of Fox News? How about CNN, MSNBC, or other left-leaning media? Many have hypothesized on this question, but it’s been impossible to quantify until now.

In conjunction with Rasmussen Reports, The Heartland Institute conducted a poll that asked participants key factual questions. These participants were also asked about where they receive their news. It became exceedingly clear that viewers of CNN are wildly misinformed about many issues, including the national debt, climate change, and police shootings.

The physics of energy ensure that President Joe Biden's push to decarbonize the America's electric power grid and transportation system is doomed to fail, harming the U.S. economy and our geopolitical interests in the process. The idea that so-called green energy sources could displace fossil fuels in the near future is a myth. Wind and solar power have less energy density, cost more, and are not reliable. Expanding wind and solar and mandating an end to fossil fuel use will backfire, harming the environment and society.

The Great Reset is a movement dreamed up by the World Economic Forum. It aims to alter the way individuals and businesses are judged. One method for this is the implementation of ESG scores. This stands for environmental, social, and governance scores. Imagine a credit score but for how woke you are. ESG scores are already popping up in banks across the country.

Justin Haskins, head of The Heartland Institute’s Stopping Socialism project, joins the Morning Show with Preston Scott to discuss the implementation of the Great Reset.

In his new book Unsettled, Physicist Steven E. Koonin, Undersecretary for Science in the US Department of Energy under President Barack Obama, explains how climate research is being undermined and mispresented. Our current state of knowledge about the climate and human influences indicates there is no climate crisis.  Hurricanes, tornados, heat waves, and droughts are not getting worse and deaths related to extreme weather events are declining. The public doesn't know this because prominent research bodies, some individual scientists, the press, environmental lobbyists, and politicians are ignoring uncertainties and mispresenting what climate research shows in order to persuade the public that we face a climate crisis. Misrepresenting climate science undermines science itself and democracy.

Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by Jon Grinspan, curator of political history at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History to discuss his new book, The Age of Acrimony: How Americans Fought to Fix Their Democracy, 1865-1915. They discuss what presidential elections looked like in the mid-19th Century, why turnout was so high in those elections, and why they were much more raucous and violent than elections today. They also discuss how reformers went about changing election practices, what their motivations were, and the consequences of those changes, both good and ill.

Stephen Moses, the president of the Center for Long Term Care, joins the show to discuss a recommendation to Congress that could make nursing home care worse, not better. The MACPAC Commission, which advises Congress on the issue, is recommending that Medicaid make estate recoveries voluntary. What this means is that nursing home residents who have qualified for Medicaid coverage no longer have to pay the bill back from their estate, even if there are appreciable assets. Such a move will put enormous stress on Medicaid and give people little incentive to save and pay for private care. Nursing home care has been under the spotlight since more than 20 percent of people who died from COVID-19 lived in nursing homes. Medicaid is the biggest payer of nursing home care in the U.S. Congress should make it easier for the free market to work by making it easier for people to save for long term care.

On April 12, after reports of blood clots in young women, federal agencies “paused” the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Johnson and Johnson. Why have agencies ignored adverse reactions associated with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines? Is the J and J shot being treated as a scapegoat? Also, are Americans being fully informed about the adverse reactions, and possible limitations to immunization?

Jane Orient, M.D. also discusses her concerns about distributing the vaccines, considered experimental, to people under age 18. Colleges are now mandating students to show proof of a COVID vaccine, even though people under age 40 have less than a one percent chance of dying from the virus. Americans may also be compelled to carry a “vaccine passport.” Why has this idea not surfaced with more deadly diseases? Orient also expresses concerns about the surge of non-U.S. citizens at the southern border. Very little is known about their immunization history. Why are U.S. citizens now being more heavily scrutinized for disease?
