Our latest episode falls on a special date in our calendar, International Women’s Day. Understanding that Women have been under-represented within the male-dominated surf industry for too long, for the past three years we have sought to elevate female voices with our Women Of The Sea Film Fund, offering up £10,000 for budding women to tell stories of commandeering their space in the lineup. All of which leads us neatly to today’s podcast guests – Lucy Small, a surfer, journalist and activist, and longtime friend of Finisterre, Filmmaker Maddie Meddings – discussing their latest surf film project, “Ceibo”.

He has spent the last decade exploring the furthermost reaches of the earth in search of uncharted waves. Specialising in stunning imagery of the natural world combined with the inspiring lives of the islanders he meets, Ben’s work captures independent tales of exploration, creativity and imagination, taking him to the most remote places to discover surf and stories.

For this next episode we are diving into the unexplored depths of the deep ocean with award-winning marine biologist and ocean advocate, Dr Diva Amon. Born in Trinidad, Diva's lifelong passion for the ocean and its inhabitants is woven into both her personal and professional life – from her childhood ‘playmate’ to the focus of her scientific career. Dedicated to shining a light on the mysteries of the deep ocean for the wider world, Diva is bringing global attention to the impact humanity is having on this vast eco-system, whilst campaigning for its preservation.

Over the four years that Katie has been immersed in big wave riding she’s been named Rookie of the year at Red Bull Magnitude in 2022, before going on to win the Thrillers at Killers event at Todos Santos earlier this year.

In the third episode of our new series in partnership with Talisker Whisky, we caught up with Peigh Asante and Nathaniel Cole of London-based swimming club Swim Dem Crew. Swim Dem was founded in 2013 with the aim of using swimming as a tool to empower people. Peigh and Nathaniel aim to promote the social aspect of the sport, making it accessible, fun and inclusive. Proudly branding the Swim Dem Crew as a family, the pair run weekly sessions that focus on training, honing skills and togetherness.

In the second episode of our new series in partnership with Talisker Whisky, we spoke to the ever-inspiring Andy Mann. An ocean conservationist, explorer, photographer and musician, Andy has travelled the world with camera in hand, documenting some of the most diverse ocean landscapes and ecosystems. Through his co-founded organisation Sea Legacy, he works tirelessly to secure highly protected marine areas in places like the Dominican Republic and Baja Mexico, raising awareness and showcasing all we can do to serve and secure delicate habitats near collapse in less fortunate parts of our ocean.

This new season of Hell or High Water is brought to you in partnership with our friends at Talisker Whisky. To kick off the series we headed to the fabled Talisker distillery in the Hebrides, converging for the Skye Summit in celebration of World Oceans Day. We were joined by game-changing endurance swimmer Ross Edgley and Paralympic gold medalist Melanie Barrat to talk about their love of cold water, Ross’s achievement of being the first person to swim around the entire coastline of the UK, and Mel’s upcoming attempt to be the first visually impaired swimmer to cross the channel unassisted.

For our latest episode we spoke to the inimitable Glen Walsh, a proudly gay surfer and Venice Beach local who helped produce the groundbreaking 2014 documentary ‘OUT in the lineup’ - one of the first to look at being gay in the surf world. A surfer, skater and activist, Glen’s passion and energy to create space for LGBTQ+ surfers is palpable. We covered everything from growing up skating and coming out in the 80s, to the current landscape for LGBTQ+ surfers, and his now legendary daily surf reports from Venice Pier.
