  • EP 43: Human Design - A Beginner's Guide with Sharon Kershner + Jessica Eguizabal
Want to step completely into your personal power and stop questioning if you're where you “should” be?  If so, Human Design is an excellent tool to use and the next generation of self-discovery. The best way to describe Human Design is that it's like a mix of the Myers-Briggs personality test and astrology.

I wish I was an expert, but I'm not. That's why I invited two of Clubhouse’s Human Design enthusiasts, Sharon Kershner and Jessica Eguizabal to join me today. Together, they are giving a beginner’s guide on how to tap into your uniqueness using Human Design.

  • EP 42: 5 Reiki Precepts - Strengthening Your Mindfulness Muscles
The Reiki precepts are a set of principles or mantras to help guide you in your daily life. And the great thing about them is that you don't have to be a Reiki practitioner to use them. Adding these to my daily self-care practice has made a difference in how I show up in the world. What's special or unique about the Reiki precepts is that there is something so spiritual and magical about saying these phrases in Japanese (and in English), which is why I wanted to share them with you.

What this practice has taught me is that it's great to have a self-care and spiritual practice. However, your healing is only as good as the energy and quality you bring to it. Using these 5 Reiki precepts has upgraded the quality and helped me strengthening my mindfulness muscles in such a major. You can get both the Japanese and English versions by going to the show notes.

    Discover:
    - Two words that can make or break you
    - 3 words to substitute out of your life

  • EP 40: 7 Types of Rest You're Not Getting and Why You're Exhausted
Rest shouldn’t feel like a chore you add to your to-do list. But so many of us struggle to find the time to rest and then feel guilty about it. What’s worse is when you try to fix your lack of energy by getting more sleep or doing nothing and you still feel exhausted. That’s like a slap in the face!

You know you need to rest. Even God knew and used the seventh day to rest. But one of the main reasons you’re still constantly exhausted is your belief that sleep or doing nothing means rest. Sure it’s a form of rest, but according to Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith’s book, Sacred Rest, there are 7 types of rest you're not tapping into that you need in order to thrive and not simply survive. Isn’t it time you discovered how to get the right type of rest so you can feel recharged and not always tired?

    In today’s episode I’m discussing:
    - Why rest and sleep are not the same
    - Fake rest and the true meaning
    - Being a functional burnout is slowly killing you
    - Why your vacations aren’t cutting it
    - Identifying how you’re exhausting your energy and the 7 types of rest needed
    - Top 3 types of rest everyone needs ASAP

  • EP 39: How to Find The Perfect Travel Companion For You with Brittany Lindsay
Finding the right travel companion for your specific trip is one of the most important decisions you can make. Select the wrong travel partner, and even the best travel destinations can be ruined. Trust me, I've heard of so many friendships and relationships destroyed forever because they were horrible travel companions.

No matter how close you are, some people are not meant to travel together; and it’s ok. What’s not ok, is not taking the time and effort before booking your trip to determine the right travel companion for a particular trip. Remember, just because someone makes a great adventurous travel partner doesn't make them the right person for a relaxing trip.

To help set you up for a great travel experience, I’ve asked my friend and travel buddy, Brittany Lindsay of Globally B, to join me this week. Brittany has traveled to 70 countries and is well versed in the art of picking the right travel buddy. Together we'll discuss how to vet a potential travel companion, things to consider before you book your next trip, how to deal with conflict while traveling.

  • EP 38: Are You Really Free? Think About It!
As this country celebrates its independence (my ancestors weren't free in 1776), it has me thinking. Are we truly free? Seriously, think about this for a moment. You may not be physically enslaved, in prison, and have some flexibility in how you think and move in this country, but does that really equate to freedom? I think it's time to take a look closer.

In my opinion, I don't think we are free but that doesn't mean we can't start moving towards our freedom. So here are 15 ways to be free and escape the concentration camp of your mind.

  • EP 37: Why Plant Therapy is Self-Care with Danielle Alvarez
There are so many benefits to being in nature that it only makes sense to bring that feeling into your home. Plus plenty of scientific studies back up this theory. Plant care is a great form of self-care and therapy that many didn't realize they needed, including me, until a pandemic lockdown.

Becoming a plant parent can have a calming effect, boosts your memory, and even has the potential to increase your creativity. If you’re like me, you probably think you have a black thumb and could never be a good plant parent. WRONG!! I love how Danielle Alvarez, plant enthusiast and founder of Zelue, explains in this week’s episode that there’s no such thing as a black thumb. Instead, she believes you just have to find the right plant for your lifestyle and environment.  Tune in for tips on finding your perfect plant match and how to keep your new bae alive and well...while also increasing your own well-being!

  • EP 36: Don't Should On Yourself!
Should is one of the most harmful words in the English language. It's also a word after listening to this podcast episode that may have you rethinking ever using it again. I don’t know about you, but I find myself should all over myself all the time; most of the time it’s not intentional. Why do we do it? And seriously, who is this external authority that has you feeling like you "should" feel or be a certain way?
Nothing good ever comes after the word should as it’s always a judgment. “I should lose weight” or “you should be careful.” To take it one step further, even the definition of the word feels hella negative. Webster defines it as “used to indicate obligation, duty, or correctness, typically when criticizing someone's actions.”
Though one may have good intentions when using the word and think they are being helpful. It is often used to correct behavior with negative emotions, which sounds good. However, no matter how you look at it, the reality is that should is a judgment and maybe not the best motivator.
Things You Hella Want To Catch
    * the effectiveness of using negative emotions to change behaviors
    * Core meaning behind this harmful word
    * Why perhaps you may want to stop using the word immediately
    * Alternatives that will help you thrive and not simply survive.
    Journal Prompts
    * Describe how do you feel when you or someone else shoulds all over you?
    * Describe how you think others feel when you are criticizing them, even if your intentions are good.
    * Why do you think you use this word so often?

  • EP 34: Naomi Osaka Is Human First & Her Self-Care Matters!
Naomi Osaka was fined $15,000 essentially for setting boundaries to preserve her mental well-being. If she broke a bone or lost her voice, would she be treated the same? My guess is no, it would not be the same, but that doesn’t make it right.

There is an unspoken rule or belief in society that demands that women and people of color to suck it up and do their ‘job’  no matter what. You should be agreeable, strong, there for others who expect you to be, and of course, be thankful to have a “good job” or a “good life.” But when your mental wellness is in jeopardy is it really a good job or a good life?

Naomi Osaka is challenging another unspoken belief. Self-care is great as long as it doesn’t inconvenience or cost financial loss to those who depend on your gifts. It’s time for us to unite and stand up against this BS! Self-care is not for when it’s convenient to others. It’s is important no matter what is going on and it’s personal.

Athletes like Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams, and LeBron James feel like superheroes. They have these amazing gifts, but we need to remember they are human first and have the right to put their self-care first.

    Journal Prompts
When do you feel uncomfortable, drained, or out of alignment?
What would it mean to me to have boundaries that support me?
What do I need to think, do, feel, or believe in order to set and stick to boundaries that serve me?
What boundaries do I have that isn’t working for me? How can I change those boundaries so they start to support me instead?
