  • EP 33: Unlearning to Be Me - My Wellness Journey
While Michelle Obama's book Becoming encouraged us to become, I’m over here unlearning to be me. And after 30+ years of being me, I've discovered there's a lot to un-become and I'm sharing today part of my wellness journey. Warning: there were tears while recording this as I honestly want to share the other side of what it means to become, by first unlearning.

Unlearning takes awareness. It requires you to observe your patterns and be honest with yourself. And then when the time is right, create a new pattern and practice it repeatedly. Of course, we can’t forget giving ourselves grace and forgiveness. I hope you enjoy or get something out of this glimpse into my journey to living hella well. Also make sure to check us out on YouTube (with facial expressions and all) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9uesKd6uGJ51DI-bEZtOw.

  • EP 32: Tiny Habits That Change Everything!
There is a painful gap between what people want and what they actually do. But what if I told you that the way you’re trying to change or create habits is hella flawed. Oh, and that there’s an embarrassingly easier way to achieve what you desire that will make you question why you didn't think about it before that you can start today. Would you want to know more?

If so, today I'm sharing what has helped me make lasting healthy habits with a few tiny changes based on a book from Dr. BJ Fogg, a behavior scientist at Stanford University, titled Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything.

The basic premise of this book is about the power of starting small to create long-term change.  In this book Fogg gives a simple roadmap that I’ll explain in detail as well as one surprising point about habits that will shock you:
Repetition and frequency aren’t the keys to creating lasting behavior changes, it’s something else that may shock you.

What you’ll hella want to catch:
    - Why willpower and motivation aren’t enough
    - Why tiny habits are so powerful
    - B = MAP (Behavior = Motivation + Abilit + Prompt) - Fogg’s formula to changing behavior
    - How to create tiny habits that work for you
    - The one factor that’s more important than repetition or frequency when it comes to creating change

  • EP 29: 8 Ways You're Doing Self-Care 'Wrong'
Self-care is being peddled as the “It Girl” for all your needs. With 49.5 million posts on Instagram with the phrase "self-care," it's hard not to scroll through your social media feed without seeing a post with the hashtag #selfcare. It all sounds great until you realize self-care can be done wrong.

The wellness industry is a trillion-dollar industry and larger companies are jumping on the self-care bandwagon. Everything these days is considered self-care from what you eat, where you go, and the beauty products you use. We are being told daily what self-care "should" be and what we "should" want in life to be happy and whole. But not all things done in the name of self-care are good for you. Or if they are done a certain way, they can actually be harmful.

Note that I do believe self-care is not optional and is an act of self-preservation, especially for women of color. So I'm not saying self-care is bad and not to make it a priority in your life. Instead, I am shining a light on what you do in the name of self-care matters. And I repeat, self-care can go hella wrong without you realizing it!

The fact that you can do self-care wrong may sound like a shocking concept and downright crazy, but it’s easier than you think. In today’s episode, we’re discussing 8 ways self-care can go hella wrong.

  • EP 28: Forget Being Olivia Pope, Fix Yo' Self!
Olivia Pope was known as the infamous "Fixer" on the hit TV show, Scandal. She'd strut in her white outfit proclaiming, "it's handled," but did she ever seem happy fixing others? Or more importantly, did her own life ever seemed fixed or handled? Not to me! The need to fix or problem-solve for others comes with ease for those who are natural caregivers or empaths. That's just who we are, but there's a dark side to being a fixer that we don't talk about often. Even when our need to fix or offer advice comes from the best intentions, it doesn’t mean it’s healthy for anyone involved (including you). In today's episode, we're discussing the desire to fix others not only being a bad habit but a deeply rooted need that is connected to things you need to fix in your own life.

  • EP 26: Crystal Healing - How It Works with Tiffany Burke
We’ve been conditioned to think using crystals is not for “us” and that crystals are some new age ish. All I can say is lies, lies, and more lies! Our ancestors knew what was up. Egyptians and other African cultures were known to use all different types of crystals in rituals and in their daily life. Crystals are even mentioned many times in the Bible. This episode is to reintroduce this ancient method of using the healing energy of crystals to enhance your life and help you reach your goals. Discover what are the must-have crystals everyone should own, what to look for when purchasing crystals, and how to use them with Tiffany Burke of Doers Beat Thinkers (doersbeatthinkers.com) who is my go-to expert for crystals.
