it's really common for staff in a special education program and other disability related agencies to make and break their promises to clients and family members alike. why this happens I don't know but I feel like it needs to be discussed. Scientifically, there are studies out there suggesting that broken promises light up areas of the brain that are related to lying. as someone who went through similar situations, I can argue that it's fair to call it out.

one of the deficits of when it comes to autistics is that the ability to drive. in this case, driving varies among individuals who are spectrumites. there are individuals on the spectrum who cannot drive at all. this leaves them relying on the public transportation carpooling and even other services such as Uber and Lyft. in this episode I talk about some tips and my own experiences of taking Uber and Lyft as opposed to taxi cabs and other public transportation.

90% of the autistic population is either unemployed or underemployed. because of this, many individuals are missing out on life's opportunities such as employment opportunities, moving on and enjoying a fulfilling life etc. while the Ada has set guidelines and placed them with employers none of them seem to get the message that the autistics of have a right to work. instead these employers often make excuses. yet, there are other contributing factors to the unemployment situation that is currently taking place.

first of all long time no talk, tonight I would like to argue my point that it is okay for autistic individuals to serve on a jury. today, lots of individuals and caregivers alike believe that autistic individuals should not serve on a jury duty and the jury duty should be exempt for all people on the spectrum alike. still, I feel that those views are unrealistic because not every autistic is the same and and because disability rights are civil rights, they should be entitled to serve on a jury.

as I mentioned last week, discrimination in the church setting is really common. in this particular case I share my story of discrimination I faced when I attempted to attend a church in the greater Minneapolis area.   One of the reasons why disabled individuals face discrimination in the church setting is because lots of unwritten social rules and other social norms are often in place. Because of that, the expectation is often very high that every person is expected to fit a certain mold.  Here is what I have to say about that.

one of the things that autistics often run into are hidden nuances within the work environment. because of this many individuals often struggle to fit the mold. Like a game called silent ball that I played in elementary school, work is almost like playing a game.

I cannot emphasize enough about why it is important for parents to let their autistic and disabled child become more independent. In fact, many parents today often disabled their children who are adults by overly coddling them due to the a silly self fulfilling prophecy. Here is what I have to say about that.
