  • "Social Media": Social Media Traps

This month the ladies of Her Portion will be sharing all about social media. They will be talking about the blessings and benefits of using social media, as well as, being careful to ensure even our social media use is pleasing to the Lord.

Colossians 3:17 says,  "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."

In this episode, Crystal tackles some social media traps from two different perspectives: the consumer and the creator. A trap is considered any device by which men may be caught unaware. If we aren't careful, we can become caught in  "social media traps" that will allow sin to creep into our hearts and minds. Take a few minutes to consider these common traps, and if the Lord leads, take steps to guard against them.

  • Bonus Episode: “Having a Heart for God”

In this short episode, let’s see what the Bible says about someone who has a heart for God. The Psalmist clearly had a heart for God, and it was said about David that he was the apple of God’s eye.

Was he perfect? No, but he had a heart for God.

Listen to this short episode where Jackie discusses a heart for God.

  • "Putting on the New Man": Just Choose

In this episode, we continue the theme of "Putting on the New Man." It is something that we must choose to do over and over--each and every day. Studying for this episode reminded me of this quote from the Bible study:

“We are no longer bound to it {sin}. We now have the power to choose. We can choose to walk as the old man and continue in sin. Or we can choose to walk as the new man led by the Holy Spirit.”

Pullin' Weeds, Plantin' Seeds (pg. 73)

The choice sounds simple enough, but it isn't easy. We will battle with our own flesh as Paul describes in Romans 7. And it might feel a little restrictive and uncomfortable at times, but it is for our good. May we ever choose to put on the new man and walk with the LORD!

  • “Putting on the New Man”: Don’t feed the flesh

    Romans 13:14
“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.”

That verse commands us to be more like Him! We grow based on the food we eat. That’s why this same verse warns us not to make provision for the flesh.

Join Quortney as she encourages you to put off the old man, stop feeding your flesh, turn from worldly philosophies, and put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • “Putting on the New Man”: The Mind of Christ

Many times we can read the passage Ephesians 4:22-24, and be so consumed with trying to put off the old man we totally miss in context what Scriptures is teaching about putting in the new man.

It’s not putting off the old man that makes us holy. Ephesians 4:24 says, “And that ye put on the new man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” The new man is what God created righteous and holy. There’s nothing about flesh that’s holy or good.

So, how do we put on the new man? It’s a simple, short episode, but what the entire New Testament is teaching us. We must have the mind of Christ. This is how we walk in the Spirit. This is how we are renewed. This is how we don’t fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

Putting off the old man then becomes a natural process.

  • "Love One Another": Loving When It's Hard

It is easy to love people we like–and people who like us! People who we understand. People we have things in common with. People we enjoy being around.

It’s much more difficult to love those who seem unkind. Someone who has hurt us in the past or continues to do and say hurtful things. Someone who is so different that we have difficulty relating to them or understanding them. Someone who has different views than we do.

In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus gives us some instruction on how to love our "enemies" and none of them come naturally or easily. Let's see what the Bible has to say about "loving our enemies" or those that are more difficult to love.

  • "Love One Another": Love Your Enemies

The world has a lot to say about leaving behind those who don't suit YOU or those who are unkind to YOU, but what does God have to say about those relationships? Does He wants us to ditch them and move on and only give love to those who love us?
