Listeners were introduced to Karen Carr Turner and her role at MAO. Karen informed listeners about her work as an educator. She provides sexual health education to incarcerated women at the Women’s Prison in Alabama. Karen shared information about the re-entry process for formerly incarcerated women in Alabama. She informed listeners about issues women face after release. Also, she shared about supports women need for themselves as well as their children post release. Karen shared with listeners about life for African American women after incarceration. In addition, Karen informed listeners about services MAO provides for women infected with HIV after released from prison.

Cedric Wherry and Barbara Lowery (Director of Social Services at Five Horizons) talk about HIV and Social Services.

Listeners were introduced to Shericka Williams with MAO. Shericka shared with listeners her role at MAO and education programs provided for the community. Statistics about African American Women, HIV and STI were provided. Definitions of HIV and AIDS as well as descriptions and symptoms of STI’s were shared with listeners.   Shericka discussed ways to prevent HIV and STI’s with listeners as well as women getting screened for HIV and STI’s with their annual pap smear.

Listeners were introduced to MAO and Dr. Bretia Gordon, Director of Education. Dr. Gordon informed listeners of services MAO provides for individuals infected with HIV and those at risk for HIV. Listeners received information about National HIV Testing Day and the importance of National HIV Day. Dr. Gordon provided listeners with upcoming events MAO is offering for National HIV Testing Day.
