It's a pair of revisionist westerns, chosen by Chad, that make up this pairing! We start with an allegory for what was happening in Hollywood in the 1950s. Directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Carl Foreman (who would be blacklisted shortly after the film was released), 1952's "High Noon" tells the tale of retiring town marshall Will Kane (Gary Cooper) who, having just married his Quaker fiance Amy Fowler Kane (Grace Kelly in her first cinematic starring role), is about to leave his job and the town behind. Unfortunately, just as he is officially retiring, he receives a telegram that criminal and old foe Frank Miller (Ian MacDonald), who was supposed to be in prison for life, has been released and is on his way back to settle old scores on the noon train. This begins an hour and a half in which the true character of the Marshall, his new wife, his old flame Helen Ramirez (Katy Jurado), and the townsfolk of Hadleyville is revealed, and it's mostly uncomplimentary. Also starring Thomas Mitchell, Lloyd Bridges, Otto Kruger, Lon Chaney Jr., and Harry Morgan!
