  • Joy In Jesus' Plan - 9.15.19 Sermon

In this sermon, Pastor Dave Tooker outlines having joy in Jesus' plan through:

    • The Plan  1:9-11
    • The Places 1:12-14
    • The People  1:15-18
    • The Prospects  1:19-20

    Questions to Consider:

    1. (v. 1:9-11) Paul’s prayer perfectly portrays God’s plan to make our joy complete. His love flowing through our lives allowing His light to shine through us. What are the main things that cause you to lose joy? Where do you believe joy is going to be found?
    2. (v. 1:12-14) How did Paul view his circumstances? What circumstances are currently impacting your joy? How are some ways Jesus could use your circumstances to advance the Gospel?
    3. (v. 1:15-18) Do you take personal attacks personally? How did Paul deal with his critics? How do you deal with your critics? What are some ways you can learn from Paul’s example?
    4. (v. 1:19-20) How do you feel about the future? How does the prospect of the future steal your joy? How does the resurrection of Jesus change everything?

  • Joy In Jesus' People - 9.08.19 Sermon

In this sermon, Pastor Dave Tooker outlines having joy in Jesus' people with:

    • New Identity 1:1-2
    • New Community 1:3-6
    • New Capacity 1:7-8

    Questions to Consider:

    1. Read Acts 16. How did God use closed doors and frustration to direct and accomplish His will? How do you react to frustrations and closed doors? Do you believe He is able to direct your path? (Prov 3:5-6)
    2. (v. 1:1-2) What does it mean to be a saint? What baggage do you carry from your past that weighs you down? How does the Gospel address this and set us free?
    3. (v. 1:3-6) The church is a precious gift, a new community that practices the Gospel together. How do you view the church? What wounds do you have from being part of an unhealthy body? How has this made you jaded, cynical, critical, or skeptical of the church? What would repentance and healing look like?
    4. (v. 1:7-8) The Good News of Jesus gives us a new capacity to love others. What keeps you from loving? In what area can you grow this week in loving?
