A few years back, The Doula Darcy and I connected and through conversation had an AH-HAH moment of how incredible it would be to have these conferences that other professions did on a regular basis. Through that conversation, The Birth Boss Summit was born.

It can be so easy in the birth professional world to become consumed with which training we should do next: birth doula, postpartum doula, childbirth, etc…, that we end up forgetting about the business side of things, and how incredibly important it is. You could be the greatest doula in the world. But if you don’t take the time to figure out how to run a business and how to network and market. It’s likely you won’t last very long because you’ll get stuck spinning your wheels until you’re stuck and burnt out.

Your contract is one of the most important things to have prepared within your business. Before you even start taking clients, you want to make sure you have a solid contract in place because the clients will come, and you want to be ready when they do. 

I’m going to cover some of the most essential things to include within your contract and fill you in on why it’s so important to always have a contract when you are providing any service for a client.  Your contract gives you a solid foundation and framework for your business.

A contract outlines your business on paper and is a foundational part of setting up a successful business. It gives your clients clear expectations on what they can expect from you as a provider, and also gives them clear expectations on what you expect from them throughout the time working together.

As business owners, it can be so easy to forget to give ourselves the amount of care that we need. The way we are caring for ourselves, directly affects how we are able to show up as caregivers. Both within our families and our business. 

The most important thing we can do for ourselves, and for our business is be on our A-game. While it’s not realistic to ALWAYS be on our A-game, we want to be as much as we are able, and that really comes down to taking the absolute best care of ourselves.
