It’s the middle of the week, which means we’re talkin’ birds, we’re talkin’ dinosaurs, and Nay is disgusted by both (“….oh, absolutely not”) – except the adorable parrots that have migrated to Watts since the fires! They’re cute! Also a special shoutout to Vico’s orthopedic pillow, you are also cute.
In today’s headlines, we are cheering for the historic IVF legal rights win in Italy for lesbian and queer mothers. The Italian Constitutional Court found that same-sex female couples who use IVF abroad can both be legally recognized as parents in Italy, even if one is not the biological mother. And though IVF remains exclusive to straight couples in Italy, LGBTQ+ activists are taking this ruling as a step in the right direction for queer families. A win for faggacinnis!
Back in the states, a Christian school just outside Atlanta, Georgia expelled student Emily Wright for bringing a trans date to prom. In another failed case of, “we can always tell,” Wright was called into the principal’s office a cool 10 days after prom and was asked if there was anything “[the school] should know” about her date. Wright knew immediately what the principal was talking about and she was expelled that same day, only a few weeks out from graduation. Luckily, Wright was able to enroll in a public school so she could graduate and move on to college; but as Wright’s mom said, even if a Christian school has a certain set of values and rules different from public schools, it should especially be welcoming because it’s a Christian school. If only, right?
Meanwhile, Trump continues to be pummeled in court (love). Last Friday, U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy ordered the Trump administration to facilitate the return of a gay man who was deported, adding to a string of findings by federal courts against the administration’s campaign of wrongful deportations. That same Friday, U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin in Boston sided with two doctors whose patient-safety articles were scrubbed from a government website due to “gender ideology.” Murphy and Sorokin join a growing list of judges who are standing against Trump’s illegal actions. The legal system has never been fast or painless (or fair) but that we continue to see pushback against the administration’s hateful policies means the fight hasn’t stopped or even slowed down! We love to see it.
Nay and Vico also get into ghosting. Have you ever been ghosted? Have you ever ghosted someone? Has the person you’re seeing ghosted the same person as you?! AND you two run into that person while together? Yeah, you’re gonna wanna hear this one! Let us know what you think in the comments and keep those ears peeled for free tickets to Vico’s LA solo show!
