The New Testament features Samaritans in a few notable instances, often highlighting themes of compassion, social boundaries, and the expansive nature of Jesus' ministry. The most prominent examples include the Good Samaritan in Luke's Gospel and the Samaritan woman at the well in John's Gospel. Samaritans also feature in the Book of Acts, particularly in the spread of the gospel to Samaria after Jesus's ascension. But who were the Samaritans? and where was Samaria?

STORY OF AMERICA — French King Henri IV granted a fur monopoly to a noble who led a colonizing expedition to an island located near the mouth of the St. Croix River in 1604, which in time was to mark the international boundary between the Canadian province of New Brunswick and the American state of Maine. In the spring of 1605, France’s St. Croix settlement was moved to a new site across the Bay of Fundy, on the shore of the Annapolis Basin, an inlet in western Nova Scotia. Here at Port Royal, France's most successful colony to date was established. The general area came to be known as Acadia. Among the lieutenants on this undertaking was a geographer named Samuel de Champlain, who promptly carried out a major exploration of the northeastern coastline of what is now the United States.

From a purely secular historical viewpoint, does Jesus of Nazareth fall within the category of Great Men? A unique 19th-century approach to the study of history was known as the 'Great Man' view of History, according to which history can be largely explained by the impact of great men, or heroes: highly influential and unique individuals who, due to their natural attributes, such as superior intellect, heroic courage, extraordinary leadership abilities or divine inspiration, have a decisive historical effect.

Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) gives us one of the first historical treatments of the life of Jesus in his pioneering book (1906) that reviews all prior work on the question of the "historical Jesus" and points out how Jesus of Nazareth's image has changed with the times—while offering his own synopsis and interpretation in this seminal work of biblical criticism.
