Jesus was crucified and buried in Jerusalem. Christianity has a close bond with the city of Jerusalem, the Historical Jesus walked its streets and entered its building. It was in this holy city that at eight days of age, he was dedicated in the Great Temple according to Jewish custom. As a man from Nazareth, he preached at the Temple and eventually was arrested, detained, tried, crucified and buried in the city. After his death, his followers believed he rose from the dead, and the community they formed eventually became the early Christian Church, with its headquarters in Jerusalem. The ancient city has been ruled by many different empires over the past 3000 years, and has profound connections with the three great Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. E101.

Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) gives us one of the first historical treatments of the life of Jesus in his pioneering book (1906) that reviews all prior work on the question of the "historical Jesus" and points out how Jesus of Nazareth's image has changed with the times. The author concludes this seminal work of biblical criticism with his own synopsis and interpretation.

We continue our Deep Dive into England’s Tudor period and its influence on America by examining the immeasurable contribution made by an Englishman on one of the continent’s main languages and culture. Let’s explore the life, deeds and works of this Tudor era Titan of History… William Shakespeare (1564-1616). Let’s appreciate the immeasurable contribution made by an Englishman on one of North America’s main languages and culture.
