A new teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens had fans in pandemonium at today's Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim. The movie doesn't open until December, but it's already predicted to break records at the box office.

The company that owns cable networks like Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central and the film studio Paramount Pictures has recently taken a $785 million hit to their bottom line. Sumner Redstone, 91-year-old majority owner of Viacom, did not appear at the last shareholders meeting, leaving many to wonder if the company is primed for a potential merger. 

The heads of CAA's comedy division, along with several other agents, have suddenly left Creative Artists Agency for rival United Talent Agency, taking with them big-name clients like Will Ferrell, Chris Pratt and Melissa McCarthy.

American television abounds with British stars both coming and going. After six seasons, PBS will say farewell to Downton Abbey, and James Corden wraps up a successful first week as the new host of The Late Late Show on CBS.

The hip-hop soap opera Empire has been a ratings savior for Fox. The show has grown in viewership numbers every week, with especially strong showings in the African American demographic. More than 17 million people tuned in to the second hour of last night's season finale.

The MPAA's box office numbers for 2014 are in, and the news isn't great. Box office revenue fell 5 percent in the U.S. and Canada. Global revenue was up 1 percent, mostly because of gains in China. 

The second week of the "Blurred Lines" trial continues, with closing arguments slated for this afternoon. The trial has revealed information typically not revealed to the public -- just how much money the song's creators made off the hit. 

The big question following Amy Pascal's post-hack attack departure at Sony was who would replace her. We now have an answer. Veteran film exec Tom Rothman will be the new chair of Sony Pictures, which has some in Hollywood worried because Rothman has been extremely fiscally disciplined in the past.
