In this episode, I interview my friend, Betsy Hake, founder and director of Jericho Ministries in Honduras.
Betsy tells the story of how she began making evening visits to a high prostitution area in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. As the women began to trust Christ with their lives, they needed help finding work with dignity. Out of that need was born the sewing workshop of Jericho. The women were discipled in the ministry and learned job skills while witnessing to their friends who were still trapped in prostitution. The families of the women at Jericho were the reason for starting our schools and family homes. Jericho Ministries' vision is to equip women and children to glorify God by breaking the chains of prostitution, sexual abuse, and addictions that have plagued their families for generations. (from their website)
I hope your faith will be edified as you listen to part one of my two part interview with Betsy. She in an extraordinary woman doing amazing work for the kingdom of God!

What is spiritual mothering?
The idea of spiritual mothering is grounded in a passage in Titus 2: 3-5: "the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things - that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that they word of God may not be blasphemed."
In this episode, I talk with Rachel Winchester and Laura Drew about what it is to spiritually mother, their own experiences of motherhood, and how they practice this in their own lives.

In this episode, I'd like to introduce you to a woman who has had a profound influence on many lives, including my own.
Amy lived as a missionary in India for most of her life. She rescued children from Hindu temples and created a haven for them at Dohnavur Fellowship. She became "Amma" to countless children and was even influenced by Charlotte Mason's philosophy of education. She also wrote prolifically, especially in her later years.
She teaches us to walk with God by faith where he places us despite the challenges that may come.
Do everything you can to gather her books! You want to raise your children loving her, but you will be challenged and encouraged by reading Amy's story and her faithfulness to the Indian people.
My one take away from Amy: her complete trust in God despite suffering, misunderstanding, and sorrows. She never gave up on God, because she knew he would never give up on her.

You probably don't want to let your children listen in on this episode with you. In this episode, we are talking about the importance of sharing God's design for human sexuality with our children.
Dr. Stanton and Brenna Jones have written a collection of books to help Christian parents talk with their children about human sexuality: The Story of Me, Before I Was Born God Knew My Name, What's the Big Deal: Why God Cares About Sex, Facing the Facts: The Truth About Sex and You, and How and When to Tell Your Kids About Sex.
Listen in as they talk about teaching children God's design and why it's so important!

In this episode of my series on building a home library, I share about my favorite subject in the whole world: children's books.
Many families have asked me to help them find out how to systematically build a library of books they actually want to keep. The books I share in this episode are from my own bookshelves, and they are the ones you don't want to let your children leave home without reading. Without these wonderful books, they will live a kind of deprived world!

Continuing my series on how to build a home library, I'm sharing the books essential to the inner sanctum. In this episode, I share the cream of the crop. These are the books I return to again and again, year after year. These are the stories that make me laugh and cry, that I give to my neighbors, friends, and family. They are the ones you don't want to live without!

What's the difference between buying books and building a home library? In this episode, I answer this question and help you systematically build a library for yourself, your children, and your grandchildren!
The number one rule of building a library is this: a bad book is a big thief.
If you want to learn how to build a home library for posterity, I share foundational books for any library, Christian classics, and must-read Christian biographies.

Early in my Christian life, I learned of Ruth Bell Graham through her collection of poetry, "Sitting By My Laughing Fire" and then her first book, "It's My Turn". Ruth was the child of missionaries who had a heart for the lost all the days of her life.
In this episode, I share Ruth's own influences as a child raised in China to a student at Wheaton College to the wife of renown evangelist, Billy Graham.
If you've never met Ruth Bell Graham, it is my privilege to introduce you to a woman of prayer and the Word. I want to grow up to be like her, and you will want to too!
