So many of us are facing a big decision this Fall, will we be teaching our kids at home? Or maybe we have no choice at all. So many of us are being thrown into the role as teacher and parent. This week Felica is interviewing Jen Lumanlan of Your Parenting Mojo. Jen Lumanlan holds an M.S. in Psychology (Child Development) and an M.Ed., and hosts the Your Parenting Mojo podcast which is a reference guide for parents of toddlers and preschoolers based on scientific researchers and the principles of respectful parenting. In each episode she examines a topic related to parenting and child development from all sides to help parents understand how to make decisions about raising their children. She lives in California with her husband and daughter. Jen brings us wisdom backed with immense research (her specialty!) on why we should trust our ability to teach, our child’s ability to learn (and lead their own education through their own interests!) and the process of homeschooling.
We touch on why we can let go of the perfect curriculum, standardized tests, and we discuss the value of play in education, socialization and explore the concept of pandemic pods. We hope that this wide ranging conversation helps any of you choosing (or maybe without the choice) about your child’s education this Fall feel more confident.
