β[Orchids] have outlived dinosaurs; they might outlive human beings.β β Susan Orlean
NEW WEEK, day late BUT WE ARE HERE! Welcome to our SCIENCE SHIT week! Todayβs episode is over the illustrious ORCHID FAMILY! OrchidsΒ are the largest family of flowering plants and the most diverse. Orchids are also master liars and cheaters! Most Angiosperms offer sugar water to attract bugs to help pollinate their flower but orchids usually just trick their pollinators into pollinating them without any reward.
J goes solo on this episode and talks about some basic orchid facts, what makes orchids special, how the Bee Orchid and Slipper Orchid take advantage of horny males, pollinating difficulties of the Ghost Orchid and J raises the question are orchids... alive!?
On every episode J & Lesly feature something theyβre loving right now called a Double Feature. We call it our DOUBLE FEATURE because there's two of us and we wanna feature some sh*t. βΊΒ
It can be a podcast, tv show, music, book or anything! Our Double Feature for this episode is the English dubbed Japanese animated war film: Grave of the Fireflies (Hulu) and the small skin-care business called KraveBeauty created by Liah Yoo! Support asian films and businesses!
