We can’t believe we launched our first podcast episode July 13, 2020! It’s been a crazy ride and we are so grateful for the support of not only our family but our friends who have shared, rated and reviewed our podcast! J and Lesly are going to take a 2 week break and be back January 25th with a new episode explaining who the f*ck we are! Cause we never addressed that… sorry.🙃

We have been responding to our amazing consistent listeners about things we can improve on and been changing for the better because of it! When we first started this podcast we had no idea what was going on but we knew we wanted to keep going and always evolve!

One thing that we do when creating the episodes is rant and tangent for hours. So it takes a lot of editing to make sure the episodes are enjoyable and not long AF.

We edit some of our screw ups or awkward jokes which are funny, or funny tangents that are kinda random but don’t really fit into the overall theme of the show. So I usually save them for later.

So we saved these clips and we decided to come out with a Bloopers/Deleted clips episode, while we take 2 weeks off and figure out who our personalities are! Hope you laugh and love our quirkiness and TRUST... there is SO MUCH MORE funny sh*t in the full episodes, so check that out.

If you’re listening and enjoying our content, please follow us and let us know on Instagram: @HomoInTraining

or email us: [email protected] we want to hear from our gorgeous listeners!

Until we meet again!!

"In astrology...Saturn brings structure and meaning to our world. Saturn knows the limits of time and matter. Saturn reminds us of our boundaries, our responsibilities, and our commitments. It makes us aware of the need for self-control and of boundaries and our limits." — Cafe Astrology

Back a day late with some science shit! I AM SO SORRY for being late on this episode. The holidays took a lot out of me and did not think I would be so sleepy but I am healthy and ready to get back on this grind! This is the last episode for Season 1 and we're taking two weeks off and coming back with Season 2, JANUARY 25th! So Keep a lookout :)

This episode is for my co-host Lesly because she originally asked me where does Saturn’s rings come from and I wanted to answer her queery :)

Also in honor of the Saturn & Jupiter conjecture that just happened December 20th, I felt it appropriate to finish off the year with a Saturn episode since I just made a Jupiter episode called: “JUPITER! Our overprotective big brother.”

In this episode J covers some basic facts about Saturn and explains how the rings of Saturn were created by the moons! J highlights two of his favorite Saturnian moons Enceladus & Titan and give you some amazing facts about them!

I sincerely apologize for being a day late on this episode but I hope it was worth it cause Saturn is a gorgeous sight to behold and wanted to inspire you to look up and see the glorious worlds above us!

À la prochaine!

“I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared. Even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.” ― Audre Lorde

Welcome to the last “entertainment review” of 2020!! We will be changin’ some things up in 2021 for Season 2, so please stay tuned! I know we are all excited for Kwanzaa/Hanukkah/X-Mas but I think more than that, we are ready for this year to be OVER!!

Today we are covering the amazing musical feature film, DREAMGIRLS!! This movie came out December 25, 2006 so we wanted to celebrate the anniversary with a dedicated episode. The film follows the lives of Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Deena (Beyoncé) and Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose) who form a music trio called the Dreamettes. When a shady af manager Curtis (Jamie Foxx) spots the trio at a talent sho, he offers the girls a chance to be backup singers for a famous musician named Jimmy (Eddie Murphy). Sh*t hits the fan once Curtis starts getting money hungry and begins making some questionable decisions throughout the movie.

J and Lesly discuss our opinions on musicals in general, let you know our thots on the casting/acting, basic intro to the movie, how white stay stealin’ and some of our favorite songs from the musical! Also we give praise to the black artists who are always overlooked from the industry because white people keep flooding the radio with their basic ass beats.

We genuinely enjoyed this musical and we hope you take the time to watch it! If you wanna see amazing talent, great storyline and awesome music, please go rent/buy this movie NOW! HAPPY HOLIDAZE❤️

“Love is born into every human being; it calls back the halves of our original nature together; it tries to make one out of two and heal the wound of human nature.” — Plato

We are nearing the end of 2020 (thank god) and we are also bringing our SEASON 1 to an end!! We got some plans coming up for the next season which will start mid January.

This is our last “thotful moment” for this year and we are ending it by giving you a (platonic) love story between J and Lesly! We feel like people get so sad when they aren’t in a romantic relationship and ignore the amazing platonic loves they have in their lives that can make you feel just as good, or better!

This week we discuss our man the philosopher Plato, what does platonic love mean to us and we give you the history of our friendship and how it came to be. Also we talk about how we so often overlook the love we receive from our amazing friends and family.

Platonic love is the most underrated type of love out there and for us, it’s been a crucial part to our healing and growth. We hope you’ve enjoyed our episode! It was so much fun to be able to tell our story and be out and proud about our platonic love!

“You are my first love, my only love and even if we’re reborn in another life, we’ll find each other and then… we’ll fall in love again.” — Sailor Moon

The year is almost over and so is our SEASON 1!! We can’t believe we been at this podcast game for half a year already. We are only getting more excited about this podcast and yall gonna see some changes coming up soon!

This week we have our “science sh*t” segment where J. Daae tries to educate y'all on how the moon was formed! There are literally so many things we can cover about the moon, AND WE WILL, but this week it’s the simple dimple formation of the moon theory.

J covers some basic fun facts about the moon, the sample return mission of Apollo 11 and how those rocks gave us deeper insight on the composition of the moon. Scientists have been sciencing on the moon for quite awhile and we cover the “Giant Impact Hypothesis” proposed based on the overwhelming evidence collected.

I hope you enjoy this solo science episode because there’s nothing I love more than talking about science, the moon holds a special place in mi corazón(my heart). Stay tuned for more moon episodes in the future because the world has been sending so many missions to the moon in the last couple years. Which means new data and new discoveries!

¡Hasta la próxima!

“I'm not the sum of all my worries and I'm not the sum of yours. I'm not the summer of 2015 but I can be the summer of now.” - Summer of Now by James Blake

We don’t cover a lot of wypipo on this podcast but James Blake is an artist we stan in this household! Also if you work with Beyoncé, you’re okay in our book. We are here with our segment “entertainment review” where we discuss some of our favorite things in pop culture. This week it’s all about the London born artist, James Blake Litherland! Not to be confused with James Brown or James Blunt.. it’s okay we made that mistake too.

James came out with a 4 song EP called “BEFORE” and it’s giving us EDM vibes!! Lesly and J are not shy to a rave or two, or three or five. His sound is ever evolving which we love because it makes every work of art he puts out worth a listen. Because it isn’t the same as before. It’s something new every time! Not only is this man making music for himself he has worked with big name artists like BEYONCÉ, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, just to name a few! No, literally there’s too many to count.

Lesly and J cover all of those topics including their first impressions of the EP and his other music, thots behind his lyrics and how we first started listening to him. Stick around to the end 'cause we get EMOTIONAL about how music connects us as best friends. Thank you for joining us again this week! We are close to wrapping up the year and this podcast has been a joy to make and see grow!

"When we fail to set boundaries and hold people accountable, we feel used and mistreated. This is why we sometimes attack who they are, which is far more hurtful than addressing a behavior or a choice.” ― Brené Brown

We are back with another “thotful moment” where J and Lesly talk about the importance of having boundaries and learning how to effectively communicate with your loved ones. We discuss what boundaries mean for us and the issues we’ve had sticking to those boundaries.

We also talk about how proper communication is crucial for building healthy relationships, how bad it is to “assume” instead of verbally expressing how you feel while also recognizing we all talk through non-verbal cues.

As humans, we are a social species. We yearn for human connection and for a support system around us to make us feel safe. Unfortunately, we have a hard time cultivating those relationships or ruin current one with our inability to express ourselves. But fear not, with hard work and self reflection, anything is possible.

Thank you for joining us again this week! We had so much fun doing this episode because communication is not something that comes easy to us and we are constantly learning. We all want love!

“The notion that we live in a quiet, ordinary suburb of the galaxy was simple and comforting. But boy... were we wrong.” ― Michio Kaku.

We are baacckk with some more science sh*t for y’all!! One of J’s favorite planets, other than Earth is JUPITER! There are a million things we can say about the planet but we are only gonna be covering the relationship between Earth and Jupiter.

Jupiter had a BIG impact on the early formation of Earth and not just because Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system! Scientists have worked out models that show how many asteroids and comets Jupiter eats in a day and how many it’s throwing out of the solar system. This is what keeps Earth safe from these catastrophic dangers and allowed us to evolve into the complicated beings we are today.

Jupiter is also responsible for the asteroid belt and prevented the 4 inner terrestrial planets from getting bigger when they were first forming. This is all covered in the podcast along with basic Jupiter facts and talk about the recorded impact of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. To wrap it up, it wouldn’t be a Homo In Training Podcast if we didn’t talk about how special we are!!! Mostly because other planetary systems Kepler has observed, do not look like our solar system. Which makes us pretty unique!

If you wanna see Jupiter and Saturn in the sky, look up around 6:00pm and you will see two close bright stars parallel to each other, chasing the Sun. The brightest lower one is Jupiter and the one on top of it, is Saturn. Thank you all for listening every week because we enjoy making this content, and J especially loves bringing some science knowledge into your lives. Be kind, rewind and tell your friends about our PODCAST! We are cool and more people should listen, qué no?

"Where is your fire?... Can’t you smell it coming out of our past? The fire of living, not dying. The fire of loving, not killing... Where is our beautiful fire that gave light to the world?" — “Catch the Fire” by Sonia Sanchez

J & Lesly return with another “entertainment review” but this time instead of music we are covering one of our FAVORITE HBO tv shows, LOVECRAFT COUNTRY!

It’s stars the amazingly talented Jurnee Smollett and equally amazingly talented Jonathan Majors! It is produced by Misha Green, Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrahams to name a few. Misha Green CREATED the show, wrote the pilot and is showrunner of the series. WHAT A WOMAN!!

In the episode Lesly & J discuss gush about the amazing acting, their first impressions of the first episode, how they feel about the “sci-fi” genre and meaning the show brought into their lives. There is a lot of crazy sci fi stuff that goes in the show so please have an open mind, open heart!!

It’s a story of magic, horror, adventure, drama, history, time travel and sci-fi set in the 1950’s and follows the life of a young Korean veteran named Atticus "Tic" Freeman. He joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across America in the Jim Crow era in search of his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and face the racist terrors of white americans but also the terrifying monsters, ghosts and witches in their path.

This is our first time reviewing a television series on this podcast. The reason we call this segment the “entertainment review” is because we don’t only want to review music, we also love and want to discuss movies and tv shows. So many times we find ourselves really relating to cinema and want to show you all our thoughts! We hope you enjoyed this and GO WATCH THE SHOW!
