Winning a Stanley Cup takes a deep roster, a well timed peak, and a bit of hockey luck. On today's Locked On Predators, we take a look at the more formulaic aspect of a deep Stanley Cup run by looking at a "contender checklist" that The Athletic created. How do the 2022-2023 Nashville Predators measure up? Nick and Ann agree there are some positive check marks including having an elite defenseman in Roman Josi and an elite winger in Filip Forsberg, but there are a few other items that may be up for debate. We discuss whether Juuse Saros - an elite goaltender - is perhaps the best net minder in the Western Conference going into next season and whether Matt Duchene fits the bill for a necessary elite center. While the Preds seem to do well on the checklist initially, the depth pieces could be cause for concern. We'll talk about how the Nino Niederreiter signing can make a difference in forward depth, and we'll tell you the player who may need to step up offensively early in the season to help Nashville find their way into a playoff discussion. Finally, Nick and Ann break down the defensive check list and tell you whether the D corps could help get the Preds closer to a deep Cup run.
