Behind Closed Doors: My first read from this author but not my last.. :)

Now, first I have to say I adored the story though for some reason I feel it was missing something; I canât quite put my finger on what it is (so obviously it didnât take away from the story too much ;-)). I loved the beginning (**somewhat spoiler alert**) because it got me hooked with the âmistressâ bit and thatâs always a sign of good to come. As I read more of the story, I felt I needed to know more about âHunterâ but there just wasnât enough of his background in the story and I felt there couldâve been more detailed instances of bonding between him and Elle. I did love Hunterâs sweetness /gentleman tendencies toward her though and I could definitely feel the sense of calm that Elle felt from him and his understanding of her made him so dreamy. Itâs also nice for the girl to get the good guy after ditching the douche (finally lol). I was a bit disturbed by the sudden endings of what seemed like an interesting budding romance (on again/off again throws me off sometimes) but all in all, the story recovered nicely. I finished the novella smiling and that is what I care about most.

Nice read

I like to read stories that are close to real life situations, something I can imagine happening. In this story, the wife is unable to decide whether to keep up appearances or leave her cheating husband. And then there is a new love in her life. (I'm trying to avoid spoilers so I don't want to write a lot from the story.)

The first-person narrative is often not my favorite, but here I liked the personal feel. I could feel some of the main character's emotions. And the book was easy and quick to read.

What I didn't like is her indecisiveness and self-humiliation. Of course this is so in the real life as well, and the story needs such elements to make the point, but I felt it was a bit too much. Also, some of the twists of the story are a bit over the top.

What I liked a lot is the message of the book that you can pick yourself up and start all over again. At any age. And because of that I gave it one star more than originally planned.

Disappointing - a waste of time

Even though I don't usually write negative review, I thought that I would make an exception. It started out as an interesting story, but it lost its way. I also didn't find the characters that believable or likeable.

Awesome!

This was the first book I have read by this author. I really enjoyed the book and I look forward to reading this author again.

Satisfying

Childhood misfortune can shadow a life, perhaps hopelessly darken it, but this story shows the power of compassion to lighten those shadows.

Although she feels secure on her ranch in Wyoming, a place of roses and honeysuckle and beautiful horses, Cassidy is both needy and appealing . . . "Cassidy wrapped pride around herself and stood straight." . . . "I try not to take anything good for granted," she said.

Cassidy's childhood has left her with a secret to hide and a mystery to pursue; both could jeopardize her relationship with Ben, a most attractive CEO-cowboy. To complicate matters, Ben is not alone: he loves his daughter, Julia, who is also needy, and Cassidy shows her true mettle as she reaches out to the little girl with wisdom and compassion. Their conversations provide some of the nicest moments in the story. There are other moments--insightful moments, loving moments, tense moments--as Cassidy's life takes one unexpected turn after another, and they all add up to a satisfying read.

I thought it was a really good to read that kept thinking about the main characters Each person ha to help discover each other, faults It's something how two different Characters from two different worlds come together and work out each other problems together. One would help Cassie to read and Cassie would later on marry Ben and help raised his daughter together s couple In the midst of their lives Cassie and Lucy found their father who later offer his daughter up to marriage to Ben.

Ms Smith does it again!

I love all of MS Smith's books. This one in particular was a great read. If you have not read any of her books I suggest you start. The romances are always sweet and light.

I have fallen in love with all of the characters, can't wait for the next one! Just saw it while shopping on amazon.com one day and decided to get the book. I read it and ended up going back for more in the series.

Plot: Lacey and Damon had a fling when she was just out of highschool, and then she ran away. Now, she's back to help take over her father's hotel and bring it up to speed. When she realizes that she can't, she goes to Damon and tries to get him to help. He will, but only if they resume their relationship.

I like Leigh Michaels; I think that she writes some of the better Harlequin Romance books out there. That being said, this is not one of her stronger efforts. The characters are interesting, but the plot didn't really hold me. There was so much wishy-washy on the part of Lacey that it got a little tiresome after a time.

All in all, though, it was an enjoyable read, and if there was nothing to distinguish it from the pack, at least there was nothing to drag it into the garbage heap.

I really disliked the H

I read this story in the "Married in Name Only" bundle on KU. Here is my review from there:

"This is one of those I remember because it was so hard to read. The main characters had dated 2 years before but the h ran off to NY when the H told her that he'd never marry her and that he didn't believe in love. Now she needs the H to buy her parents hotel and he agrees provided she become his mistress. Obviously, the story is very dated. Anyway, he says he'll technically marry her so he can have sex with her until he tires of her then they'll get divorced. He agrees to the marriage because he doesn't want her parents to know that he only wanted sex from her. Honestly, it was really tough to read and I agreed with the h's pov that she was more a less a prostitute to him. The H was a complete ass for most of the story and the author even put in an epilogue but I think it was to convince us that they really did have an hea."

Left with a puzzle

First off, I have to say that it was hilarious that every single time the h thought about her father she referred to him as Bill Clinton. Every time!!

The H, Damon Kendrick wasn't awful but it really would have been nice to get his POV. We do find out why he had no intention of ever marrying and having children, but I would have liked to know how he felt when Lacey had disappeared for two years to New York. I wanted to know if he was sorry that she had left and I would have liked some solid confirmation that he had the hotel plans before he even made the outrageous proposal to Lacey. I liked that Lacey grew up though. She ran those years before, she ran from the hard work with the hotel being refurbished but I got the feeling that once Damon came to her again she wouldn't run again. She needed to know how he felt in order to stay for the long haul.

It seemed they got their HEA after a bit of a misunderstanding, but this reader was left wondering about that. Towards the end you get the one line about Lacey thinking that Damon loves Michael, their child, but sometimes she thinks that Damon would have preferred that she made a different choice that day in Arizona. That was a bit puzzling.

The truth revealed

When I started reading this book, it was a little difficult to wrap my head around the fact that it was a Blaze. I kept focusing on the cover, rather than the story. The whole feel of the story was different, and it wasn't until I reconciled myself to the fact that it felt more like a straight contemporary story was I able to settle down and enjoy the discovery of love between Courtney Masterson and Thomas Fraser III aka Trey as well as the discovery, recognition and acceptance of self that both characters learned. This book is told in first person, which is a different style for Rock, at least from other books i read by her, and for me, as a reader of Harlequin Blazes. It was a little jarring at first, but Rock's voice rang true throughout the whole book, which was something I latched on to. While I was reading, I could hear her telling the story, which helped to keep me engaged.

Courtney epitomised everyone who hid from life based on their disabilities, insecurities and the way they were treated by others. It wasn't until she donned a mask when she felt more powerful. She was able to be that confident, sexy and beautiful woman who feared nothing. However, as her journey continued and she came to the realisation of her own power due to her dancing and relationship with Trey, that she was worthy of being in the limelight. It was at this point in the story when Courtney truly began to shine. Her character was easy to connect with in that way because, like Courtney, I do my best work in the shadows. All my insecurities come into play when I am center stage, which are quickly followed by an attack of nerves. I loved watching Courtney learn to harness and learn to wield her power.

Trey was a great character as well. He was a bit tortured and tragic in is own way, and I love a tragic hero. He was Hollywood royalty, but he never used his status in his dealings with Courtney or others. He was a real down-to-earth character who walked around without a mask. Trey's character was a good foil for Courtney. Though he did not wear a physical mask, Trey used his drive, resentment of his father, and his desire to succeed to mask some deeper issues he needed to deal with. On the outside he exuded confidence, but deep down he just wants the love and acceptance of a father who he perceives to be wicked and conniving. His relationship with Courtney enabled him to learn and grow as a person and as a son.

A really sweet love story...

This is a cute, sweet love story. It is written with love and humor and also has more danger in it. This story is well worth the read. The author, Regina Puckett did a good job on this story. Love the plot and the promise is awesome. The narrator delivered a well sounding story with multiple voices which are smooth and easy on the ears.

Super Cute

I love...love stories & babies & drama, so I really liked this story. I wish it were not so short & some of the support characters were developed more as well as the "future plans" that you touched on with Allison. Overall I was not disappointed.

The book started off great but seemed to have ended abruptly. Would have like to have read more or at least an Epilogue.

Sweet book

This was a very sweet, HEA book. I don't have a lot to say either way about this book because it was just a nice, sweet read. I like some angst in my books and at least a little complication, but that does not really happen here. I mean, yes, they hook up and she gets pregnant-big hiccup, but after that all the dominoes fit pretty well together, which is not a problem for many; I just like a little more umph to my reading, but if you are looking for a sweet novel to settle down to one night, then look no further.

Lovely plot of two people who havent be that fortunate recently and fall in love around Christmas time. Short but entertaining with good narration.
