Still Obsessed

I am going to be honest(I always am in my reviews), until the ending of Still Obsessed, I was ready to throw my hands up on the series and say that the author should of stopped at book three. I had a brief epiphany during this book that maybe I needed to change my perspective. I was reading them as the old married woman that I am. I realized that I needed to read them as a young twenty something woman who still sweats the small stuff. What is frustrating about this book is that Jax and Ivy have a lot of made up drama. The issues that continue to threaten Jax and Ivy's happiness seem trite and never ending. I was ready to give up on this story, but I feel that the author does pull it out in the end. I realized that Jaxâs fears about Ivy are based on taking care of his ailing mother before she passed away. Ivy is only acting like a woman who is trying to figure things out for herself. These two people have never had to deal with a real relationship and the struggles that go along with it. I stand by my earlier reviews that I liked the series. I am a sucker for a good romance story. There are a lot of steamy scenes and drama (maybe a little too much). The writing, for the most part flows easily and the characters are likable. These stories make a nice little escape from reality.

Didn't quite live up to the beginning of the series, but still good.

I was a little disappointed with the ending of Obsessed. I loved the first few books and was really looking forward to the last installment but I wasn't as invested in the book as I was in the series. It felt as though everything was revolved around the one surprise at the end, which I had already guess during a good portion of the book. I found myself skimming through certain details because I just wanted to get to the end. I think the plot line, or story line, was a little off. I understand the want of ending a character but I felt like it could have been done a little bit better. I also felt the chemistry between Jax and Ivy was there, but just not as intense as it had been in the previous books. One thing that I couldn't wrap my head around was the fact that they have only been together for six months but they have all of this outside nonsense affecting their relationship when realistically they would probably still be in the honeymoon stages, getting to know one another. I know everything about their relationship was rushed in the first three installments, but this story just felt thrown together to me.

I had trouble choosing a rating - they're a two-pack of Harlequin Desire (didn't that used to be Silhouette Desire?) - so the stories themselves were great - on the spicy side, as the Desire line *is*...but this was an audible book, and I can't say I'm a fan of those in general, but especially a spicy romance in audible. So...four stars on the content, and two stars on the format.

Sweet Story With a Bear Shifter & Lawyer

This audiobook has great characters & story line. Although it is not as long as many audiobooks it was just right. The Author was able to create a great romance story.

Abby leaves town after a high profile court case she lost. She ends up at Curvy Bear Ranch. There she meets Cody, a gorgeous cowboy. The attraction between them is strong but Abby doesn't want to get involved with anyone.

The narrator does a great job bringing the story to life.

The author is very talented and I'm looking forward to reading/listening to some of her other books.

Although this is from a series, it can stand alone with no cliffhangers at the end.

This audiobook was provided free of charge in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion.

Seemed to ramble without a clear destination. Not really related to her profession at all, which is the same as mine and the reason I bought it. Not realistic in that respect, but it is fiction. Had nada to do with Real Estate or Appraising.

Easy read

Fun book with unique and entertaining characters.

Nicki Daniels is a thirty-something single mom, and she's doing pretty well for herself. She's got a great job, a sweet boyfriend, and several interesting adventures on the horizon. To any outsider, she looks like she has everything a woman could want. But Nicki is fighting some pretty serious childhood demons, and she's having trouble feeling settled, content...happy. So when her father, Ronnie, shows up unexpectedly after a long, long stint in prison, Nicki's world is upended. And all those insecurities she was just barely containing make their way into the full light of day. Ronnie's arrival forces Nicki to confront her past, but in the process of trying to make peace with her dad, Nicki ends up finding a way to heal herself and better her future.

I really loved this book. The description made me think it was going to be a light, fluff read. And though it is a really fun story, there is a surprising amount of depth here. I loved how Ronnie kept talking about developmental psychology, how children are so deeply influenced by how their parents treat them, especially when they are young. I thought his observations were spot on and added a lot to the story.

I also thought McMillan did a wonderful job of creating unique, layered characters. No one was perfect, but they were all relatable and sympathetic. Even when they made dumb (and I mean real dumb) decisions, I still wanted to support them. That's not an easy thing for an author to pull off. The only people who felt slightly superficial and cliche to me were Nicki's two boyfriends, but meh.

My Musings

After I read Hard Glamour, I just had to read this next book in this amazing series. Im so glad I did because I thoroughly enjoyed Amanda and Ryans romance. I was not sure how the author was going to turn Ryan into a hero since he is not shown in a good light in the first book, but let me assure you, Ms. Marr does, and I was truly rooting for him to find the strength to overcome his addictions so he could have a happy ending with Amanda. They both richly deserved it!

Broken Glamour is a well-written book, and the angst is handled fairly well without becoming too over the top. Both these characters definitely had issues from their past that explained their behavior. Now, I would have liked to have more of Ryan's backstory to fully explain why his character was so tormented. Im not saying some is not there. I personally would have liked a bit more depth. Amandas character does give just the right amount of backstory, though.

I listened to the audio by Nina Sumter. Her narrative had a bit of a sing-song tone to it which after a while became a bit annoying. There is also a male narrator, and he had the same tone quality. I did enjoy that the dialogue was read by the female and the male regardless of which POV the book was in.

This is an emotionally-charged story that gave me a true picture that an individuals struggle to accept that addiction does not just go away because the person is no longer using. It is a daily effort to keep away from the substance, and that a support group and getting a sponsor are the keys to recovery. Ms. Marr handles this in a spectacularly vivid way.

I'm glad I read Broken Glamour, and I enjoy Ms. Marr's writing style a great deal. I highly recommend this book and the series. It's a story that will pull you in and keep you involved until the end. Happy reading!

I liked this better than the first one, probably because I had already preferred Amanda to Laine as a character to begin with. Was happy with how the relationship played out and with how the 2 dealt with their relationship.

Great Read

This was an awesome story of a young man trying to find himself and who had to get out of that one horse town and see the world. But a trip home reminds him of all he left and is running from. Can Abby, his high school sweetheart open his eyes. Melanie James has done another awesome job writing this and Holly Jackson does an amazing bringing it to life!

When I started Snowflakes, Exes and Ohs I honestly did not know what to expect. I love anything Melanie James writes and I always have to one click as soon as a new book comes out! This story totally had me hooked from the start. There are plenty of details about each character and you feel like you honestly know them. Abby was heart broken when Dylan her high school sweetheart left for the navy with out even a goodbye. Years later Dylan is back and Abby has a secret and Dylan will soon find out and have his world turned upside down. This story is amazing. It is a quick read which is good if you do not have a lot of time and want to finish a book before you get back to life! Melanie is amazing yet again (at this point it does not surprise me)

This second book in the Kings of Chaos series starts out with Blue. She has been dating a man named Jamie. She starts to realize he is not the right one. What happens when/if she tells him that they're done? Her sister Calla has gotten herself into some serious trouble, and has a 16 year old son named Bolt. Blue is called in by her father to take care of Bolt, moving into Calla's house. She goes to see Shadow, Bolt's father at the prison. What happens when she goes to see him? What happened with Jamie at the beginning of the book and how do her father and Shadow feel about it? My jaw hit the floor at the inner musings of Jamie at a Friday night club party. Eventually Shadow and Blue start figuring things out again, when something happens that Jamie is involved in, after a former San Diego Cop shows up in the mix. Who are they and what do they have to do with the Kings? What happens the night Jamie dies? Wen Blue goes to see Calla at the prison, what does she tell Blue? Another great book in series. I really love that all the books have their own unique story. A lot of times I feel like some series just retell the same plot over and over again. I haves loved them all so far
