Publisher's Summary:
The galaxy burns at Horus' command, and a billion more lives are lost with each passing moment - though it was not always so. Once, the title of Warmaster stood for honour, loyalty and a fierce pride in the strength of the Space Marine Legions. But perhaps by following the myriad lines of destiny and defiance that were already woven around the primarchs and their sons, we may yet come to understand the bitterness that can eat away at even the most steadfast of souls....
Full list of authors includes Nick Kyme, Chris Wraight, Rob Sanders, Andy Smillie and Matthew Farrer.

Another (good) collection of fillers
This is another collection of sixteen short stories that take place mostly during the Horus Heresy, although some tale place a bit before. This is in particular the case of the first story (The Wolf of Ash and Fire) which sees the Emperor and Horus fighting side by side and storming one of the Orks Empireâs main planets with their respective guards. Once again, the stories are largely fillers that provide background or complement other HH or Warhammer 40k titles and there is no really weak story. Once again, different readers will prefer different sets of stories, and the length of these varies widely, from six pages of text (Sins of the Father about Sanguinius) to one hundred and thirteen pages (Aurelian).
Aurelian, by Aaron Demski-Bowden (ADB), is one of my favourites because it is shows how more assertive and self-assured the Primarch of the Word Bearers has become, to the extent that none of his brothers can intimidate him anymore while his own actions and the mastering of his talents earns him respect from some of the mightiest. âMassacreâ, by the same author, and while again dealing with the Isstvan V slaughter, tells the story from the Night Lordsâ side and features a younger Talos who is still an apothecary, with his squad mates, a certain Malcharion, who is yet a Night Lord captain, well before he becomes an entombed Dreadnought, and a certain Vanbred who is still a sergeant, well before he becomes the Exalted in ADBâs Night Lords trilogy.
âMaster of the Firstâ is also one my favourites for no other reason that it deals with events happening in Caliban, as Luther takes control of the planet and a certain Astelan who will become one of the main Fallen works hard to earn such a title. Then there are two stories featuring sergeant Thiel of the Ultramarines and which complement the latterâs fights and exploits on Calth displayed in the Honoured in particular.
Also part of the mix is a number of stories showing either the bonds of brotherhood that the brutal civil war would destroy, such as in âthe Brotherhood of the Moonâ between the Scars and the Luna Wolves, or the bitterness and relentlessness of the Iron Warriors (Iron Fire and Iron Corpses) and of the Imperial Fists (the Eagleâs Talon) in fighting the war to the finish.
All in all, another good collection of short stories even if, once again, these can be seen as fillers. Four strong stars.
