Funny and grotesque!

So, if you love rednecks, fart jokes, and grotesque imagery, this is the perfect book for you! Funny, nail-biting, AND gross? I'm in! I read the ebook last year, and I'm dying for part 2 to hit audio! Now, please excuse me... I need to go gas up my chainsaw...

A Very Short Story answering some questions of Samantha Moon's other self, "the big flying thing"

I have been reading many of J.R. Rain's series and I can honestly say that he is one of my most favorite authors. I especially Like the Samantha Moon series, of which this is a slice of. What I don't like is the appearance of greed by making so many short stories or including Moon stories with others in another compilation. It seems that the J.R. Rain spits out novels, novellas, and short stories to see how much money can be made. Now don't get me wrong. His other series about Elvis, Jim Knighthorse, and Detective Spinoza are great reads in their own right and I am surely hooked. I haven't purchased the Witches Trilogy yet but will. I am anxiously awaiting the 9th Samantha Moon book, "Vampire Sun". One of the best, in my opinion, was "Body Departed". There was a lot of promise and I sincerely wish he had continued that one to a resolution, but never did that I am aware of. Grrr....

I love Samantha Moon

I love Samantha Moon, but I feel this was a short story that said nothing. I would never recommend it. The story has no plot, not real action, no anything. Beside that it was so short I could not believe it ended when it did. Save your money and ignore this one.

Fell short even for a short

This is an extremely short story, that really doesn't add much to the plot. Normally we have a case or something personal about Samantha to uncover in the story. This book would have maybe been better in my eyes as an included chapter in one of the books. But it somewhat fell short as a stand alone.

Love Samantha

Short story and published and made available before Vampire Sun. However we do learn a bit more about what she is capable of and the creature, not the demon, whose form she takes when she is in a flying mood. Some questions are answered, others are still up in the air, so to speak. But Samantha is getting closer to knowing more about herself and all she can be. Well worth the wait and the little irritation I felt because it refers to incidents in Vampire Sun and I had not read that book yet.

This was a nice surprise from the author since Vampire-for-Hire fans are always up for more Sam. While it was nice to be transported back into Sam's world, this wasn't my favorite by a long shot. It is very introspective throughout most of it which was good for the overall series storyline but not as fun to read. However, the end is well worth it and mad me wish that I could spend a day in Sam's shoes (or wings as the case may be).

Already purchased in another book. Why is this even a stand alone?

Just a taste...

What a cool little Post Apocalyptic tale. I'd never heard of Micheal Hopf or his New World Post Apocalyptic Novels series before I read this. If you like P.A./"prepper" type stuff than this is worth the $4.95. Being so cheap I wouldn't use a credit of course but what buying it did for me, and Im sure you'll find as well, is it let me into the Gordon Van Zandt P.A. world and gave me just a taste of what I'd find if I DID indeed spend a well guarded credit on a Micheal Hopf book on the same subject. After reading this short story I know I will love to read the entire series on which it is based(of which there are currently 4 books) so buy spending a measly 5 bucks you will either save yourself a credit if you don't like it OR like me find out exactly what you'd like to spend one on. For that reason I recommend buying this short book and as well I beleive if you do you'll love it and want more than just a taste of the Gordon VanZandt epic series by Micheal Hopf. I gave it 4 stars across the board ONLY bcuz it was so short otherwise Im sure it'd have been 5.

Loved the story!!

Do you ever wonder how or why does the Zombie Apocalypse start? I mean, I know how it usually starts in books or movies, but if it was real, how would it start? Well I think Mike Evans hit a home run with this because it's exactly the way I think it would start!!

The government recruit some top scientists to create something soldiers could use in defense of chemical warfare, but things don't go as planned. Frank Fox was one of the scientists but was sent home before he could see the finished product. His wife had died of cancer and he had to care for his son. Years later, he meets a woman and just as he proposes to her, she tells him that she has terminal cancer. He can't lose someone else to this disease, so gets his research out from the time he was working with the government and decides to try to modify it so it can become a cure. Well... that's all I'll say about it!! Want to know what happens? Then go buy it.

I find with a lot of the Zombie books I read, there is always an abundance of characters who are glossed over. I often find myself confused with what is happening to who, but not here. The author really took the time to let us get to know each and every character. We get to see how and why the outbreak happened and I loved that!! I loved that I became invested in them so quickly. I loved getting to see why someone would create something so destructive, why you would play God as such!! I pretty much loved everything about this!!

The story is compelling, it's entertaining, it's captivating and I devoured it. The pace is fast enough to hold your attention, and as it starts with kids shooting Zombies, you know it's going to become more scary and intense. The author has created an amazing book 1 and I can't wait to see if all the rest are just as good. I'm invested in the characters and need to know what's going to happen with them :)

Decent Story, Simple YA Sci-Fi

This book is, for the most part, exactly what I expected. The site description is pretty spot-on for this book.

Nate, the main character, is part of a group of students that have the top rankings in simulated flight combat. Flight simulations have become essentially the football of the future. Different worlds and races compete in simulated military flight missions as games. When the group of students competing on another world, the local citizens overthrow their government and attempt to kill or capture all of the humans in the system. The students flee on a damaged, outdated assault carrier with limited supplies and very few crew members. With all but one pilot lost in the initial escape, it is up to Nate and his friends to pilot the remaining drones and fighters (the ship's only significant defense).

The story itself wasn't bad. I found the backstory and description of the rebellion in the beginning a little confusing. All of the student pilot characters are also pretty stereotypical. Main character, girl he's interested in, best friend, boy he competes and argues with, etc. I found the plot a little unbelievable at some points as well, but nothing too bad.

Narrator was good. Definitely a good fit for this book.

Overall it was a decent listen. Lots of action, dogfights, suspense, etc. It was good enough that I'm probably going to listen to the next one in the series.

Action packed space battle with teen cadets

What made the experience of listening to Star Crusader the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the sharp, observant nature of Nates mind and the rivalry and friendships among the cadets. Each of the teens have unique strengths that make them a valuable team if they will work together.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Crusader?

I liked the young, brave characters and was fully engaged

What about Andrew B. Wehrlens performance did you like?

Andrew B. Wehrlen did a very good job with the narration. He captures the youthful personality of the cadets and is still able to pull in the older characters too.

What would have made The Survivalist better?

A story with more heart...this story is way too mechanical ... Kinda like a person that can sit down in front of a piano play every note in front if him without emotion and the next artist needs no music to make you feel every note.This book has that kind of disconect

Very good first book.

I do not listen to SciFi much so it took me a bit to understand verbiage but once I got that down I loved where the story went. I am excited to see where she takes it.
