"This deeply satisfying eighth entry...is a very strong payoff for the series." (Publishers Weekly)

    A fitting ending - but I'm glad it's over
I really like K.K. Rusch's stories in both the "Retrieval Artist" and the "Diving" universes, but this particular splitting of the "Anniversary Day Saga" into 8 different books hasn't been as satisfying. I would rather have seen three or four complete novels than eight of what are really each incomplete novellas.
That said, the writing is as good as usual, the characters we know are all here, and most of the loose ends get tied up. There's one long-term plot arc that I can think of that is still open at the end, but that may be a part of the background of politics and change taking place in this invented society and something we see progress on with each new novel.
This novella had one job - tie up the strings from the other seven. It did that, and now we can move on.
    Cool!
A satisfying ending to this saga. I wonder what's next for Flint and the Alliance.
So sad the series is over!
I love this series and am so sad that this is the last book. I have enjoyed it since the beginning and love the way each small piece has woven together throughout it. The focus is all on the story and each book contains parts of it. If you love a well crafted tale, start from book one of the retrevial artist series and work your way through. Great narration as well. I just hope that there are more tales in this series waiting to be told and that they make it into print someday.
    Flinty
Excellent narration and even better story telling... The only downside is that it ends one of the best SciFi series to come along in a while... Worth the credit and so much more... Striking is the topical similarity to the machinations and bigotry we see everyday in this modern messed up world of ours...
I wish it was "Good riddance", but it's not over
She used books 6 & 7 to introduce a whole slew of characters who are not really involved in the ending. It's obvious that she will continue all their story lines in more novels.
But you can read them. I'll never read anything by her again. I wasted money on books 6 & 7 only to find out I didn't even need them for book 8, the finale.
So be warned: although she finally gives us the answer to Anniversary Day, as in all her books in this series, she doesn't tie up all the storylines, leaving you hanging.

    What Teens can do !!
Would you listen to Derelict again? Why?
Oh, yes, indeed !! I could not put this audio book down !!
This story has a lot of twists & turns !! Plots within plots !!
What did you like best about this story?
How, Ro, Micah, Bear & Jim, got a 40+ year old transport ship to run. They worked together as a team.
With all the turn-a-bouts in this well written story, these teenagers, accomplished, victory !! And rewarded, as well !!!!
Have you listened to any of Bill Burrowss other performances before? How does this one compare?
I do not think so !! But I must say, that he kept me riveted to this book !! Excellent voice with each character too !!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Do not underestimate, four teenagers !!
    Great story. Excellent narration.
This was a welcome relief from the last few stories I listened to. The story wasn't as formulaic as most sci fi. The narrator did n excellent job as well. I didn't find his reading tedious half way through the book as I have in the last few books.
I would definitely buy another in this series of the writing style And narration were the same.
    This was ok
The book was ok overall. The characters were real but some of the relationships were strained to be dysfunctional. Pretty much every adult was cast as a villain that saw their kids as secondary. Also the main character's relationship with the communications officer was rushed and felt forced. Either this could have been cut from the book or more time should have been spent developing it. Overall a 3 3/4 stars book. If you like Sci-Fi read this, if not skip it there are better books out there.
    Story was a solid "B"
This book had an interesting concept regarding an AI being an key part of every spaceship. Unfortunately the concept didnt help this one fully developed into a Great book. Before you mark me as being unhelpful, I liked the story, I just dont want to marry it. It was entertaining enough and the narrator did a good job. The story just needed something.
If youve got a credit burning a hole in your digital pocket I say go for it. You could do a lot worse than this book.
    Decent book
my only complaint was the narrator didn't quite fit the book. his voice was fine, it may have just been the way he read it.

    Publisher's Summary:
Welcome to the final, heart-pounding episode of the Scrapyard Ship series. It's all about to end in one climatic crescendo.
The story continues with Captain Jason Reynolds and his team: Billy, Rizzo, and the rhino-warrior, Traveler. They must attempt to rescue Ricket and Gaddy, still held captive aboard the impregnable Dreathlor prison barge. Only after the rescue can Jason return to the Lilly, his highly advanced Caldurian vessel...where it all began.
The elusive Admiral Ot-Mul, leader of the Craing Drac-Vin forces, has not only survived, but thrived in the far outer-reaches of space. With hundreds of thousands of warships under his command, Ot-Mul's combined fleets are on the move. But, in truth, he cares about little else than making one man suffer...Captain Jason Reynolds.
With an enormous fighting force on the horizon, it's the last call to battle. Will the decimated Allied worlds reunite one more time? Will Ot-Mul get his vengeance by taking those most dear to Jason - Mollie, Boomer, Nan, and Dira - and using them to rip Jason's world and his very existence apart?
    Members Reviews:
    Fun and entertaining read
Far fetched but it was a fun series and I liked the characters. I thought the narrator was outstanding. There were a lot of characters and he did voices extremely well but also remarkably consistent. Always knew which character and this made it a very easy listen.
    FINAL ANSWER----ER----FINAL ENDING?
"That's how it's going to be!" sayeth the tired of the body and spirit, young hero. He makes no bones about it. He's used his all in the on going war with the Craing and seems bemused that the Alliance has won. He's lost so many friends, he's numb. His enemy, Cmdr Ot-Mul had planned to have Captain Jason as the entree with his crew being the balance of the feast. His crew worries for him while his ex and new love can't believe what his choices to do now, are. Does anyone besides me feel like all the finishes aren't really finished? The way to these decisions has certainly been exciting and fraught with danger and lots of action and L. J. Ganser has delivered all as though he's right there, explaining the under currents, the new science of mightier weapons and faster space ships, and against his choices, playing ambassador and politician. It's definately gotten a whole lot tenser on the bridge! This is the end?!
A fitting end... Or is it?!
I really liked this series. Truthfully, I was wondering how McGinnis was going to wrap it all up. I think that I would have given it 5 stars across the board, but there were some loose ends that didn't quite get wrapped up. I won't say too much for fear of spoilers.
Overall, it was worth the credit.
    not his best book
It was extremely anti-climactic you felt like you were built up to this great an otter battle and victory into the future of all mankind to end it there is I'll let down in my opinion

    Expected more...
The first two books in this series were amazing. It's not that the quality of writing fell off but I feel like the author just kind of threw in the towel in regards to the story itself.
Many people will be unhappy with this book due to the fact it doesn't end in a way pleasing to the average reader. That being said, my beef is more with the effort given to the storyline, not that it was such an abrupt ending. Vance did the equivalent to putting in your second string team when down late in a game...just kind of gave up on what could have been one of the best apocalyptic/dystopian fiction series to come out in along time.
    So disappointed, returning
The blurb is totally misleading. Devin doesn't transform, but remains the useless twit he was in the beginning. Devin, next time you meet an evil pirate on top of your woman, just shoot him rather than scream and blather about how you don't have time for this. I was screaming aloud obscenities at him.
Travis, no "solacing" going on there, more like arguing than anything. Our brilliant and heroic marine feels every bone in his body that this is bad news so instead of hitting the gas and driving away, walks into a trap.
Instead of what I was anticipating where all the characters would finally meet up and have some resolution, many things just felt manufactured and unbelievably stupid as if the author was fed up with his story and needed to end things.
Pathetic and sad little story, so much so I have to return it. What a let down compared to the first book.
    What happened?
Seems as if the author lost interest. While the series started off great, the way it ended just seemed rushed. If you listened to the first two books, might as well see how it all ends as you can easily finish this one in a day and still have time to start another book!
Worth reading to finish up the trilogy
I enjoyed the story but at times there were to many stories going on at once. There are some very surprising twists and turns that made it interesting. You can make your own conclusions as to how the book was wrapped up. I am still trying to decide.
Dad-gum that was a great series!
I've already listened to The Defiant as well. I can't wait until the next release. Keep'em coming Mr.

Don't think I even want to finish the series after this debacle.

The Bird Flu has hit the United States with a vengeance, and Christine Cook, an upper-class mother of three, documents the traumatic days in her diary as she fights to keep her young children quarantined and healthy, while her husband, a pediatrician, insists on going to work to each morning.
How does a family cope while so many around them are in despair? How does the world cope with a pandemic without the insanity of the situation becoming contagious in itself?
    Members Reviews:
    definitely hair-raising and freaky
This is a story about coping. Coping with this new illness that is killing off citizens. Coping with loss and/or almost loss. Coping with yourself. It's a unique point of view in the pandemic fiction that is out there.
The narration done by Erin deWard was nothing short of perfect for this book. Her performance really gave this book wings and allowed it to take on another emotional level. When the main character was depressed (most of the story) Erin's voice was depressed too. Just one of those performances you wish for as an author.
This may be one of the most depressing books I've ever read. It reminded me of the movie The Weatherman in that aspect. It just kept getting darker and darker. But, unlike the movie I mentioned, this did have some redeeming things happen to the main character. Saying what or just how redeeming would take away from the story. Just know, if you're reading this novel--hold on, it will get better.
There were many scary moments--well not scary necessarily, but definitely hair-raising and freaky. The narration is done from the point of view of a surviving mother who's husband has quarantined himself in the shed/playhouse outside their house.
This is one of those books that is hard to review, this one on two fronts. One being I cannot say much without giving away the entire book. And two, I really didn't know WHAT to think of it until the final chapters.
Now, with the word pandemic in the title, I did expect a little more description of the pandemic that is harming everyone. Not just some sentences here and there that explain the aftermath.
Overall a very slow going, depressing book that I'm glad that I read/listened to. If I'd stopped halfway through, I wouldn't have liked it. Having finished it, I'm glad I didn't stop.
Audiobook was provided for review the narrator.

    Dark and depressing, until...
About half way through this book, I was considering a review with the title "The Most. Depressing. Book. Ever."
The entire setting of maybe two thirds of the book is the home of the protagonist, her struggles within it, with each tragedy and disaster followed by another. Much of this part of the book is filled with her recollections of her life before the pandemic, and how things led up to what they'd become. Her past is a patchwork of tragedies too. I was half expecting the book to end with "And then they all died horribly. The end.", so depressing was the life of the protagonist.

Set in a world in which the Roman Empire never fell, Clash of Eagles finds Praetor Gaius Marcellinus leading his 33rd Legion into Nova Hesperia. But there his conception of the world is challenged by encounters with the Powhatani, Iroqua, and Cahokiani tribes.
    Members Reviews:
    Good premise, silly story
A world in which the Roman Empire never fell and an invasion of the Americas is an idea with great potential. The childish flying Indians is a squandered opportunity to spin a great saga.
Interesting concept, captivating story, poor end
Interesting concept, captivating story, but unlikely elements and outrageous and disappointing ending.
I realize it's set up for a sequel, but the ending was so destructive as to destroy any desire to read more. I may attempt the second just to see how he can resurrect the storyline, and because this book ends on such a sour note.
    spoilers:
The unlikely elements are flying machines (make it fun though) and Greek fire used by cohkians. Also that their enemies would have been able to capture viking longboats, learn to sail them and the take them all the way from Chesapeake Bay--down around Florida and then up the Mississippi to Illinois in 2 years and build and use siege equipment without Roman/Viking aid and training. That our Roman hero was able to accomplish so many advancements was unlikely enough.
The ending: the good guys army and city were nearly completely destroyed. All of their technological advancements were destroyed and their Roman weapons and armor stolen.
Their defense of the city was pitiful. And Marcelinus ran around ineffectually and ended up a near invalid.

    Members Reviews:
I really want to like this story
The series has some fun and interesting moments, and a few interesting characters. Unfortunately, the characters seem to lose depth as the story progresses (or is jumped around somewhat incoherently).
Shiloh and Resurrected Sepp Dietrich Crush Aliens
In Part 2 of The Synchronicity War Saga, Earth, and its 11 billion human inhabitants squeezed onto its crowded shores is now the frontline in an increasingly nasty war of annihilation against a nameless, completely depersonalized enemy that Mr. Wehr hasn't taken the time to name yet, has refused to devote a single sentence of inter-alien dialogue or physically described in any way whatsoever. Is this an intentional strategy of negation where the aliens are totally devoid of any redemptive value, as single minded agents of obliteration? Hard to say.
Maybe Mr. Wehr is saving up all of the alien's dialogue for the next installment. Who knows, those bastards might turn out to be a bunch of chatty, disgustingly superficial blowhards who can't shut up unless their blown up.
Anyways, at least Mr. Wehr had the presence of mind to include in his cast of characters everyone's favorite SS Panzer Army commander- General Sepp Dietrich. In Part 2 Sepp takes on the role of Fleet Admiral and second in command to the Big Kahuna.
As for the main character CAG Shiloh, I dig his dedication to the AI fighter fleet led by the irrepressible Iceman. They think of him, Shiloh that is, as a kind of father figure, and he is as protective of them as any father would be towards his own children. If Shiloh hears anyone talk shit about AI's behind any of the AI's virtual backs, that individual's career is quickly 86'ed. I respect the AI's ability to quickly acquire handy stock fighter pilot lingo and their growing sense of wonderment at what Iceman termed "humanity's obsession with fecal matter and procreative activities".
I am super ready for Part 3. So many questions to answer. Can humanity bounce back after that little shit sneezed into the candy jar on the spaceship? Memo to those idiots in that spaceship's bio- med lab: What the flying fuck were you MENSAS thinking when one of you placed that ubiquitous glass jar of irresistible mint candies in a stand alone location just inside the wide open, unguarded bio-medical research lab located for reasons I cannot fathom right next to the living quarters for the bunch of refugees suspected of harboring a ultra-deadly strain of some pan-death flu virus? Step back and think about it. Here comes some snot nosed little runt waltzing out of his family's quarters and within six steps is inside an authorized personnel only bio-med research lab staring at the candy jar.

    Amazing End to Fantastic Series
What an awesome trilogy for middle grade kids and even adults. I laughed out loud many times, drawing odd looks from people on public transit. I highly recommend this and the two preceding books!
My nerves were on edge - literally
This series is amazing on many levels. Not only is the story developed well, the characters are portrayed as dynamic with multiple levels in their personality, their values, and morals (or lack of (or absence from) these. As Abbey and Derrick are the twin grandchildren of Oscar
Cragbridge - the genius inventor and founder of the elite school that uses his inspired inventions as exceptional educational tools. Their insight and inherent values have helped save their grandfather, parents and others from an evil billionaire who covets Oscar's inventions, especially the one that allows those who knows its secret to go back in time and even peek at the present. Even with those amazing abilities it could be disastrous in the wrong hands. But ... Can it do more?
What makes this series so impactful beyond the fantastic tale, is the way the author uses Oscar as the voice of reason, to ask the moral questions. If we can change the pat, should we? What if those changes impact our present in ways we couldn't even fathom? What if one small change impacts someone important not being born or causing someone to expire before a major event was to take place. There is always moral dilemmas when time travel is involved. This series is worth the credits. I'm sad to see that there are no more Audible books for it although there are more in the series. Soon I hope.
    love this series
These books are fantastic. I wish there was more. The reader made to the book shine. I felt like I was right there with the characters.
    Great book!
I loved this book. The series kept getting better and better. This was my favorite so far (the other ones are great too though).
    Chad Morris does it again!
The third installment was even more amazing than its predecessors. The book captures you from the very beginning and doesn't even let you go at the end. In fact, it continues to hold you and make you start begging for the fourth installment, leaving you with questions of what exactly Munns will do next to the Cragbridge family and their growing group of allies.

    Publisher's Summary:
From author, Mark Wayne McGinnis, who brought you the hit series, Scrapyard Ship and Tapped In, comes a new and exciting new science fiction saga and the rise of the most unlikely new hero.
Seventeen-year-old Collin Frost, the kicker for the Lone Stars high school football team, was not enjoying the bus ride back to the school after a game that hadn't gone so well. The ride was made worse for him when Bubba, the team's defensive tackle, decided Collin should sit in the aisle instead of the seat next to him. That's why when the bus pulled to a stop at a railway crossing in a small town in Middleton Texas, Collin didn't actually see what the bus driver, the cheerleaders, and his teammates saw... a hovering, goliath-sized space ship.
And here the journey of the Lone Star Renegades begins. Abducted into the belly of a sim rover collector ship, sent from a distant galaxy, the Lone Stars must find a way to survive long enough to escape their deathly confines. When that escape finally does come, the teenagers find themselves 23 light years from Earth and smack dap in the middle of an interstellar war. Young and irreverent, the Lone Stars must bargain with the Brotherhood forces for passage back to Earth - a bargain that would require them to complete a military basic training program and inevitably have them fight against Brotherhood's enemies for the duration of one year.

    A good read
If you could sum up Lone Star Renegades in three words, what would they be?
Better for a young adult read but over all it was good. Good story and narrator. Not to spoil it but I wish it were a different alien they found in the ruling galaxy instead of the humanoid.
What about L.J. Gansers performance did you like?
He did the voices really good for each character, especially the fancy names.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did laugh a few times.
    Any additional comments?
I would recommend to my younger friends.
    Very good story
Loved it, was easy to listen to and made you want to keep listening .
    great new series
the story starts out with action and continues from there. I have many books by Mark and enjoy all of them. the narrator does a really good job of keeping the characters separated so you can follow all g easily. looking forward to the next episode.
fun read and a fun reading
I ve got a few issues with the handwavium of the story but it's fun and the issues aren't much of a problem. I'd call it a pretty good young adult book.
    I really enjoyed this book
I took a chance on this between other book series and was pleasantly surprised. Fun adventure with likable characters. Narration was very good and story kept me in it. Hope book 2 is out soon.
