    Well..
It's a great book, don't get me wrong. It's just that this particular product is not in English. At least, not in English from the seller I ordered from. It's in German. From my limited skills in German, I like the novel, but if you're looking for English, I'd look elsewhere.
    Hervorragendes Postapokalyptikum
    Fascinating Postapocalyptic Vision
This book offers everything a good work of science fiction needs: a compelling story, realistic characters, lots of bizarre ideas and even a philosophically touched context.
The setting is the metro of Moscow - the refuge of the last surviving humans - years after World War 3.
The society described is fragmented - every few stations are a new "state" with its own laws and borders. The tunnels are dangerous and full of mutants, the surface even more. And the hero is out on a mission to save the living humans.
(The review is based on the German translation, the English translation will come out autumn 2009.)
    My favorite novel
I have to agree with the guy who reviewed this before me. I couldn't put this book down. There were times I got spooked a bit reading this in the dark. If I had to pick one word to describe Metro 2033, it would be "immersive." Some of the editing/translating got a little sloppy towards the end, but nothing to ruin the book. I can't wait for the other books to come out in English. Artyom is my new hero.
    Not To My Taste
    Bleh.
No. Interesting concept that wasn't used to its fullest.
Boring main character - don't care what happens to him or what he has to say and what he thinks.
Awful, boring, unengaging language. The dialogue was laughable, the writing all in all was... meh. I don't know how much it is due to the translator but, didn't work at all.
    Info dumps.

This was just what I was looking for. A ...
This was just what I was looking for. A fast paced story with very human characters (except the dog). Not too much other worldly powers, just enough to allow for the story to work.
    Wonderful read
I'd expect no less from R.A. MacAvoy! She is an impressive author, and although her books cover the gamut from Medieval European music to Chinese dragons to Celtic magic, her sense of story and gentle wonder imbue all of her books. If you haven't had the opportunity to read this author, do yourself a favor and do so now. Death and Resurrection is a blending of the old and new (a common thread in her work) into a story with more than one lesson (or not, if you would rather).
Trust MacAvoy for a good read.
I decided to read this book because it had to do with an ability to travel between the dimensions of life and death. As a medium, when I do a reading, in essence I am acting as a telephone line between these two dimensions, so I was interested to see how MacAvoy handled travel between them in fantasy. The author does this rather well. The story unfolds in what to me felt like three different phases; much like reading three novellas in a time linear series. I found it both entertaining and believable.
    Welcome to the Pacific Northwest.
I wish Ms. MacAvoy wrote more. I have been reading her since she published "Tea With The Black Dragon", and while I haven't enjoyed all her books, I have enjoyed most. This one I enjoyed very much. A Chinese-American main character, in a very white city, with a Native American love interest, Tibetan Buddhism, and shockingly realistic violence (shocking in its realism and unexpectedness when it happens). I read this when it was first published, sold it, and repurchased it for Kindle because I realized I wanted to reread it and keep it. I'm glad she got my money twice. It was well worth it.
    Good writer!
Fun quick read. I enjoyed it!

Humanity put all its fading hopes in New Eden, a pristine star system 230 light-years from the ravaged Earth. But upon arrival, the would-be colonists encountered the Kresh - a diabolical alien race who quickly captured the human starship and tortured its inhabitants in hopes of learning the coordinates of Earth.
Street-smart Cyrus Gant managed to escape, crashing to the surface of a nearby moon terraformed by the Kresh and inhabited by primitive humans. The electric interstellar action that began in Alien Honor continues in Alien Shores.
    Members Reviews:
    Slow and somewhat boring
What would have made Alien Shores better?
Better story, less back and forth dialog, more interesting characters.
What was most disappointing about Vaughn Heppners story?
    Slow and uninteresting.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    None
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Alien Shores?
    I couldn't finish the book.
Inventive aliens in a 3 front war with humanity
Large cast of characters for this sequel in the series. The author does a good job filling in the ground work from the previous book with few info dumps. Enjoyable story, but just a little heavy on narration and I found the Scotts/Irish accents off putting.
A more appropriate title than the first book.
Would you consider the audio edition of Alien Shores to be better than the print version?
I have a problem reading for an extended time and can't bear to put down a good book so I listen to my books. So I can't judge printed editions.
Would you ever listen to anything by Vaughn Heppner again?
It was because I had listened to Vaughn Heppner that I purchased this series. This series is not in league with the Starship series but it's still a solid four stars read. I'll try him again.
Have you listened to any of Jeff Cummingss other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, I've listened to Jeff before and he really "makes" his books. I've been listening to audio books for nearly a decade and it didn't take long to realize that a poor narrator could ruin good authors. I've often wondered who selected the narrator so I could cuss them personal. If it's Jeff Cummings,it's kudos!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No chuckles, giggles, snorts or downright laughing. Likewise, no clouding up, no snuffling, one tear displays, short showers, or sustained find-the-Kleenex acts. It was still a good listen.
    Any additional comments?
Even though I don't consider this one of Vaughn Hepplers best series, it still provides a satisfying read if you can keep up with the change of characters constantly added and deleted. Once you have that in hand, it's very good!
this book was better than the 1st
I enjoyed this book and looking forward to the next. Heppner introduced many interesting characters and the storyline expands.

can't wait to what comes next.
    and you are?
s tuff. The story was very unique. Word wore word ft you have whiff z wurst. The other thing is that the only thing that I
very good book a lot of good twists
as always I enjoyed this one. can't wait to listen to the next one the story is getting really good.
    Mixed bag
n Dark Space: Revenge, the Sythians have come to dark space to conquer humanity. Meanwhile, Admiral Heston sends a mission to get help from the Avalonians.
The book got to a very, very slow start. Ethan and Illaras wedding and honeymoon were pretty boring, and they didnt really do anything for a good 2/3 of the book. When I read the first book, I thought Ethan was going to be the protagonist of the series, but he really is just a major letdown. He has zero character growth in this book (ditto with Illara). Meanwhile, Aton is sent on this secret mission to find the Aviloians, but as usual, he gets relegated to the sidelines and some occasional space combat. Captain Caldron continues to be a rather loose cannon and not a particularly good leader, especially in her analytical and decision making. Overall, all of the human characters act incredibly dumb and often cant see the most obvious things in front of them. They also have a tendency to say rikahdeath and glory every 5 minutes.
The novel continues down the previous course of making things worse, worse, worse, and worst with little hope., but there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
The Sythians continue to do their evil thing, and are rather flat, but at least consistent.
What saves this book is Avilonit is a rather unique and fascinating take on an ancient society, and their technology is also amazing. When we finally meet them, and when they finally face the Sythians, things arent quite as predictable as one would have guessed.

Great book, great performance, great series
What a tour de force! I thought I'd listen to the first thirty minutes or so the night this book was released. Ha! I couldn't put it down. I stayed up most of the night listening to it, then took the day off work and listened to the rest of it nonstop to the end. And it was worth it!
Lots of excitement, engaging characters, important conflicts, and satisfying outcomes. I was braced for long boring summaries of what had gone before, but happily Cherryh sidestepped all that. She slipped in the needed background information through interesting new content.
Many cheers for Danial May's brilliant reading and C.J. Cherryh's brilliant writing.
    end of sequence 5
This is the last book in this sequence and really at this time 30 Oct 2014 this is the last book in this whole series of books but more are being created now so if like me you really liked these books you want more but after reading these books for like 9 months I want to take a break so I a few years I hope a few more sequences are released and I can get back into this.
This whole series was great, a few of the books were a little better then the others otherwise it would have been a 5 star across the board.
The narrator was simply great, he did a great job at the different voices with exception of maybe a few that I thought was someone else - like Brens Brother and some guy from the state department, the voices sound pretty much the same but I guess this can happen in real life and there are only so many voices one can do and there were lots of characters in this whole series so the narrator did a great job, 5 star for sure.
    Entertaining, satisfying, great read!
I have so enjoyed listening to the Foreigner series, even book 15. The book continues right where the previous book left off and takes us through the heir's birthday celebration, his 9th birthday. One would assume that Cherryh is not finished with this series. The light humor by the author throughout the story and Daniel May's narration and voices for the different characters is so well done. Between this book and the preceding book I listened to the first book and could really tell the difference in May's style.
The story is still enjoyable and refreshing.

A heart-stopping zombie thriller!" (D.A. Wearmouth, best-selling author of First Activation)
    Members Reviews:
Bray does a great job on a ok story
I am running out of zombie titles to review and I am getting desperate! The end result is this: R.C. Bray is the one of the best narrators for this genre. He narrates multiple books in my top 10. He has the ability to make a average title better. I am really starting to get very worried, what will be my next genre... romance novels here I come... See how the pressure is getting to me... bah romance novels!
While there is nothing wrong with this title, it is not the best in the genre. It just doesnt add enough and it lacks two things I really enjoy in a zombie story. Firstly, I like the comic book albeit adult comic style violence. You know the action that makes you feel young at heart!
Secondly, and most importantly this one is devoid of humour. Looking at my top 10, all of them serve up large portions of sarcasm, often the characters sense of humour highlights the humanity of the main characters (sane or not).
This will certainly kill some time if you have a boring commute to work but if you listen to a lot of zombie stories, you will probably soon forget about this one after finishing. So my buying advice is simple, pay your money, have some fun, and move on.
On more simple matters: The publishers summary is accurate of the story. If you choose titles on a cost per minute basis, then please take note that the narration can be easily sped up to 1.25x speed thus decreasing listening time.
I have never been so tense
I have never been as tense while listening to a zombie apocalypse audiobook as I was while listening to Die Trying: A Zombie Apocalypse. The first part of this story that hooked me immediately taking place during a violent thunder storm in the pitch black of night, where our military guys were trying to track down a mysterious sound in the air, I really thought that was all the story was going to be for awhile and I would have been totally alright with that. Under constant fear the zombies would hear or find them and ruin their day. Nicholas Ryan bring forth a new type of zombie to my ears, the kind that will eat each other, one was wounded and suddenly the horde stops advancing, moaning turning to growling, and then they converged upon the wounded and tore it to shreds in an all out ravenous feeding frenzy. If that wasn't enough for you Ryan was able to create characters that really spoke to me with their complex histories and a certain mystery surrounding a few of them. My only criticism is that this audiobook was way too short, so many other avenues could have been explored. I highly recommend Die Trying: A Zombie Apocalypse, but only if you are looking for a quick listen that is really fast paced, full of action, tons of suspense and different than your usual zombies.

    A REGULAR SH@T SHOW
Before buying I read the reviews on page one. Everyone was upset about the book having a cliff hanger, so I thought I will be prepared for that. I never made it to the end, had no desire to. Digging deeper into the reviews, where the Jakarta fans regulated the honest reviews by going unhelpful, I have discovered what a prepper is. There is no story here. Some have complained about taking a whole book to get to Boston. It is easy to see early on why. The father in the story is the expert on everything. He tells everyone what, how and when to do things. For example he tells his son, take the knife out of the outer left pocket and ... I believe we were also told where he bought the knife, it's shape and size, and what it is used for.
In the beginning they are in a sailboat and we are told everything about this boat. I thought, alright the author is showing off his knowledge on sailboats, when they get to land, surely it will improve. If anything it got worse. Every step is explained, literally every foot step.
I am not a fan of the narrator, but I am not sure he really had anything to work with.
DON'T BUY THIS BOOK YET...Wait for the 2nd part..
    Any additional comments?
This book literally stops in the middle. Don't get me wrong, IT IS GREAT...BUT it will have no ending til book two is released..
    Bad
    Any additional comments?
I listened to both this book and book #2 in this series. This series has too much military jargon and not enough plot development. I really tried to like this book, but it's not very good.
GREAT Beginning but no middle or ending!!!
    Any additional comments?
What ever happened to THE NOVEL where you had a beginning ,middle and end? I can't believe that it was allowed to be produced as an entire book.I feel very cheated and definitely not worth the money.
However I do love the story line but will think twice about spending so much money for a third of a book next time.
Konkoly is a great addition to the genre
I really enjoyed Jakarta Pandemic, so jumped on this audio book as soon as it came out. I'm glad he's continuing the story of the same family.
Good pacing, solid writing, interesting scenarios.

    Great continuation of the story
Would you consider the audio edition of DEAD: Revelations to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version, but since I love audiobooks so much, I'm going to say YES!
What other book might you compare DEAD: Revelations to and why?
The other books in the series, of course.
Which character as performed by Andrew McFerrin was your favorite?
    Steve
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No laughing in this book. And no, it didn't make me cry, but there were cringe worthy moments.
    Tight like a tiger
Would you consider the audio edition of Dead: Revelations to be better than the print version?
I don't get much time to read however I am able to listen to audio books at work. Considering the high quality of the audio and the smooth cadence and character voices of the narrarator, I can only imagine that it is.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead: Revelations?
One thing about the Dead series is it's abundance of characters. With so many to follow, there were memorable moments from each group. One particular moment that made me laugh inapropiatly involved Keven underestimating the power of a bomb he built and catching his hair on fire. (Not a funny moment, but I couldn't help it)
Which character as performed by Andrew McFerrin was your favorite?
Andrew does such a great job at giving each and every character their own unique voice, which with the amount of characters in this series, is no small task. As far as liking the voices of the characters, I like the way he voices the Dr.s (Reginal, Zohn & Peter) I also like Tallia, Jaun & Shaw.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Indeed. I started listening to this book during the second half of my work day. I continued to listen on my 1 hour commute home and then into the evening until I was forced to pause until the next morning.
    Any additional comments?
While this is a series that is classified as horror and deals with the subject of zombies, it is largely about survival, human nature and how things change when it all goes down. Although this series deals with some disturbing subject matter at times, it is not vulgar or meant to tantalize. I respect that T.W. Brown did not exclude such subject matter as so many other writers in this genre have. I have no doubt that if there were a "zombie apocalypse", things would be much worse than what he has included.
Great 2nd book in this series!
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is a great continuation of the zombie apocalypse story. The narrator continues to be FANTASTIC! The series continues to follow the groups from book 1 and still pulls no punches.

Fourteen years later, only Jeffer, the Citizens Tree Scientist, knows that Kendy is still watching and waiting. Then, when the Citizens Tree people rescue a family of loggers, they learn for the first time of the Admiralty, a large society living in free fall amid the floating debris called the Clump. It is likely that the Admiralty has maintained, intact, Discipline's original computer library.
