„What is behind this other than „women cannot be believed?!”
A Budapest-based Japanese mother of two (who we call “M”) asked the Hungarian police for help several times because she was in danger. Her abusive ex-husband kept a gun, he sent death threats to her and he used every possible tool to literally keep her in her place with their children, including the Hague Convention’s Child Abduction Section. She died a tragic death on the 29th of January when her body was found in a house fire, and her ex-husband is currently under arrest on suspicion of premeditated murder. In this special episode of Zsófilter I talk to Stasya, a close friend of M’s and Noá Nógrádi, a women’s rights expert to discuss the events and circumstances that led to M’s death and the failures of the Hungarian as well as the international authorities to keep her safe.
