But this thing...it's different. It challenges us. It rewrites history.

But what if we were meant to find it? And what happens when this vast, global puzzle is complete?
    About everything.

Exceptional Sci-Fi about an Alien Artifact
Where does Sleeping Giants rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It would easily be in the top 10 for the characters, the actual story, and the narration.
Although this is an exceptional tale about an Alien Artifact and its impact on those involved with it, it is also a much bigger story about the impact this artifact will have on the Human species as a whole.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sleeping Giants?
It is difficult to say without giving away spoilers, and there are a couple of pivotal moments as well. I will let that be up to other listeners so I don't spoil it
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The main character who interviews each of the individual players in this book is somewhat of a unique person, and the narrator who portrayed this character did such a brilliant job of bringing to life the arrogance, confidence, the power he exudes in particular places. It was like the narrator 'was' this person. It was utterly brilliant.
Further to this, the narrator who played Kara was equally brilliant in portraying the abrasive, and yet likable character she was meant to be. She brought to life this women who was very straight forward in her desire to be a pilot, do her job, with no fuss, and no bulls**t, and yet, there is a softer side to her.

    Publisher's Summary:
Sooner or later, you have to trust someone.
There are no reported outbreaks in the UK or Ireland. That's what the government broadcasted. Nilda didn't believe it. Not trusting the authorities, she, and her son, Jay, stay behind when Penrith is evacuated. After weeks of rationing, there is little food left in the small town and many other survivors competing for it. Choosing diplomacy over violence, she attempts to forge a community out of a disparate group. As zombies gather outside their walls, she realizes that they will have to seek sanctuary elsewhere. Nilda travels north into Scotland, but death follows, and she is forced to leave once more.
Joining with others who have survived the evacuation, she finds not all of them have the same motives. Some, like Tuck, Sebastian, and the Abbot of Brazely only want to help. Others, like Harper and Rob, only want to help themselves. Whilst Chester and the new Mayor of Anglesey have their own agenda, one at odds with Nilda's quest; to find a safe haven for her son.
Set in Northern England and Scotland, this novel returns to the beginning of the outbreak and features some new characters (and a few familiar ones).

    Great!
When Nilda and Jay stay behind, things start to happen and then they get out when things start going bad. Zombies are getting thick!
    Awesome addition to the series
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book.I like that the author created new characters and showed the different choices they made at the beginning of the collapse.I disliked Nilda who has a abrasive personality, however I was able to connect with the other characters and care about their stories. It was nice to see how their lives intersect and influence the characters
in the previous books. The narrator did an excellent job.I purchased the e-book,but received an audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Wasn't sure about a change in narrator but ended up loving it
I wasn't at all sure about a change in narrator but it's worked so well. I'm really enjoying the story from a different perspective, hearing how someone else chooses to deal with the outbreak and the consequences of their decisions. The style, whilst similar in some ways to the first three books seems sometimes as if it's written by a different author. I nearly gave up on the first book. So glad I stuck with it as I'm hooked now!
    Change of narrator
Listening to the previous books in this series it's weird to now hear a female narrating this, I enjoyed The previous narrator
    Same setting with new characters
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely would recommend to anyone loving the apocalyptic genre. Characters re very realistic and like a good plot the fate of characters central to the story is truly unknown. It is not a good verses evil scenario but instead one which allows characters to develop and play out self interest. Has good detail but doesn't bore you with it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I like Nilda and Jay. Mother and son. Jay is very believable and often puts his foot in it as a teenager would.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes in parts this brought a tear to my eye.
    Any additional comments?
Another good book on a great series.

    biggest crybabies I've ever heard.
Good story good series, but the reader shouldn't try to do impersonations he isn't good at. Everyone is so whiney it makes me sick. Everyone. All the time. I have a hard time connecting even religious folks being such big cry babies all the time. I'm religious but grew up on farms and hard workers and not one single person was such babies. Even while talking about running out of coffee! These are not the tough bunch the author wrote of. While I'm on it, why do most of the characters have stuffed up noses? The portrayal of the black affect actually made me laugh almost as hard as the attempt at the thick New York affect. This would have been a better read.
    Good story.
Evan and Jason make a great team... can't wait to listen to 4th book! I do recommend this series.
A tale of life, love, duty and loss.
The quasi-militia group the homestead families assembled are known as the Guardians (book two). The Guardians continue to protect their own, expanding and fortifying their community as they deal with the day-to-day realities of the collapse. Time to start sending out scouting teams on scavenging and supply runs to supplement their stores. Our boys run into more marauders and save a few more survivors. NATO troops ironically called "peacekeepers" appear at the request of the government administration whose task is to put down any opposition. Lots of action, great characters. A tale of life, love, duty and loss. I'm looking forward to book four "The Resolution".
    Narrator could use improvement.
I love this series of books, the narrator was ok except for mispronunciation of a lot of words. Overall good though.
    I got a cold
What did you like best about The Blue Ridge Resistance? What did you like least?
I really like the first book in this series. Second was okay. But this one just didn't work on so many levels. Particularly irritating is the narration. It is slow...too slow for the pace of the writing. Speeding it up doesn't help, in fact makes it more irritating. Don't get me wrong the narrator is a good reader and changes character flawlessly, however his choice of voice representing a black man is just idiotic.

Commandant(The UFMC) by Jonathan P. Brazen
This book was a very fitting end to a great Series. This series captured all that is within serving a cause with a Band of Brothers. It is hard to put into words, but, I served in Vietnam. In a war that was not popular in this Country. However, what was always most important to me was the men that I served with, and the bond that we had. This series has captured that feeling for me, along with other feelings that only a soldier in the Combat Arms could understand. Thank You Colonel Brazee.
    A surprising end
I thought that the seventh bokk in this series would have been the last so it was somewhat of a surprise when this eighth book (Commendant) turned up. The book is full of surprises and the end even more surprising. Often the last book in a series tends to sort of drizzle out but this is a worthy end of a very good series of military science fiction. But don't read this book as a stand alone, then you would not understand the context or the characters and their motives.
    Regards
    Hans
A fine ending to a great series.
This series has obvious parallels to the Horatio Hornblower series of books that focused upon the historical British wet-water navy. Many science fiction writers have followed the Hornblower pattern. This series has been a little different. It was told from the Marine point of view and primarily focused upon ground combat. It also diverted from the more or less standard theme because the main character started as an enlisted man rather than an officer. The beginning of the series therefore focused upon enlisted ranks and NCOs before the protagonist became an officer. Subsequent books followed the protagonist's promotions through the officer ranks. The culmination of this series was entertaining as well as thought provoking.
I would like to take a moment to compare this series to that of David Weber's Honor-verse series of books. Weber has become one of my favorite rants because his series started out so well before becoming a bloated monstrosity. Weber has seemingly endless chapters devoted to minor characters and trivial details. As a result, David Weber has gone from one of my most favorite authors to one of my least favorite authors. I have frankly stopped buying and reading his books.
Jonathan Brazee managed to avoid this trap.

LOVED IT! TOO SHORT, NEED MORE!
I adore this series, and this was a great installment! We meet a new character, Thorngrip the bear, and she is awesome! Mark left this one open for another one, which makes me super happy..and we find out Riley is alive, and recovers to fight another day...her and her pack of Ben ben, and Patches make it back to the Talbot home in Maine...She learns Jess is gone..and she wants to get Zach...she senses something bad coming, so they settle in to see what's going to happen next! LOVED IT!!!!!
    Riley V 5 Stars
Mark Tufo does it again, every one of his titles automatically goes on my pre order list.
Leaves you wanting more and more.
I have listened to all the Riley books and even named my Pitbull Terrier after the series. That's how much I love Riley and the pack. I really hope Mark Tofu writer's more Riley books and soon. 5 stars all around.
Tufos roller coaster of emotions was ever present
Although George greeted Riley into the next world, he sent her bags packing back to the zombie infested world she had just left. Seems Riley still had some work to complete.
Riley and her protector, Thorn Grip, find their way to a farm with a vet and his wife. Together the two humans help heal Riley and learn much from Thorn Grip. Seeking to reunite with her pack, Riley returns to the place of her death and finds Ben-Ben and Patches looking for her.
In typical Mark Tufo fashion, the hilarity and action ensues an egotistic, preening cat, a young Ben-Ben with the hots for the towering, cereal eating, but not a dog, Thorn Grip; a confused male vet and his loving wife, a chance encounter with Icelys henchmen and more zombies!
Tufos roller coaster of emotions was ever present you will laugh, you will guffaw loudly and you will cry. I finished the audiobook on my way to work with tears flowing down my cheeks at the end some were tears from laughter while the last ones were of sadness and loss.
My favorite character of this book, which is also the most surprising, is Thorn Grip I love her passion for cereal and Captain Crunch at that!
Tufo has a gift of storytelling. He has a talent for bonding his readers to his characters making them bond so that when one dies it is heart wrenching. While the last book left me stunned and angry that Riley had to die, this one left saddened even though Riley lives and there is an opportunity for there to be more Riley books should Tufo wish to write them.
Throughout each book Tufo parts words of wisdom that makes one stop and think; he makes us question our beliefs, actions, fears and what constitutes family. Well written, Tufos Riley 5 is an excellent book.
Sean Runnette did a wonderful narration of the Riley 5. His tone and voice are the voices of the Tufo characters and world. His reading is packed with enthusiasm, feeling and warmth.
There were no issues with production.

    Publisher's Summary:
A Pound of Flesh, book four in the Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse series, picks up on day nine where In Harm's Way: Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse left off.
    Outbreak - Day Nine
Reeling from a surprise attack, and with two fires burning out of control, Schriever Air Force Base goes on high alert. Former CDC Scientist Sylvester Fuentes, the apparent target, is killed along with others. Destroyed in the conflagration was the Omega antiserum Fuentes had been working to perfect and just hours prior had tested successfully on one of the recently infected. Meanwhile, returning prematurely from a mission to set off two nukes in the path of an advancing horde of living dead numbering several hundred thousand strong, and with his Delta Force commander Mike Desantos infected and dying from the Omega virus, Cade Grayson is forced to do something no friend should have to do.
As the low rumble of the two nuclear detonations signaling the mission's likely success rolls over Schriever, Delta Force Captain Cade Grayson begins formulating a plan that will send him hurtling on a collision course with the parties responsible for the terrorist attack. Six hundred miles away near Eden, Utah, Duncan Winters hopes to ride out the apocalypse in his brother Logan's remote compound. In Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the New American capitol, Daymon Bush, former BLM firefighter, bides his time with one burning desire: to find his girlfriend Heidi even if it eventually kills him. Will Cade successfully lobby President Clay and embark on a new mission in order to extract his pound of flesh for the loved ones he has lost?
    Members Reviews:
The 4th book is so good it could be its own series
Nine days after a virus has turned most of humanity into zombies -- Cade Grayson and crew are attempting to get a handle on what is going on just outside their base. All the while, the "New American's" are trying to do the same thing in their fortified small town Jackson Hole. Follow characters you're familiar with and new ones as they continue to fight to survive the zombie apocalypse.
Shawn Patton has done the narration for all four installations of this series. Patton just has one of those voices that really bring a story alive. He's able to be a hard-assed special ops man one moment and then that spec-ops guys wife in the next. It's amazing to listen along as he brings Chesser's words alive. I'm always excited when I get an email saying that the next book is out and to see that Chesser and Patton have teamed up again. Even though the books have already been written -- it feels like the words were written for Patton to speak.
Very rarely does a series surprise me. Even less often does a series surprise me in the fourth installment. Usually, by this point, I understand the characters and the way that each person is going to deal with new situations. No, not in A Pound of Flesh. Chesser takes what I thought I knew and threw it out the window. That doesn't mean that Cade isn't in it -- or his wife and child, they're all present and accounted for. Chesser just decided to finally dive into what was happening in some of the rest of the surrounding area around Cade.
With this expansion of space, he also expands into some new characters, both good and bad.

    Fantastic Introduction to the series
I first heard of a guy named CJ Carella 21 years ago in high school when we acquired the newly released Juicer Uprising. I only recently found out that he had a series of novels on Audible and I'm so glad I did.
I was completely hooked by the prologue. LDS traveling the galaxy, converting aliens and serving as Murder-Shepherds is brilliant. Russet the lovable evil Marine might actually be my favorite character in the book. And Space Puppies! Frickin' Space Puppies!
Guy Williams narration is great. This is the first book I've heard him narrate and I'm looking forward to hearing more.
    Oh what a Guy!
This listen was tinged with just enough imagination to feel it was a reality just around the corner. The different military types were well developed and believable, No super bionic or cyborgs needed. The politics were disappointing because they hadn't improved from today's smarmy, corrupted, self serving bodies. But the narrator Guy Williams was great. He kept the action moving, no lulls. He gave depth to the characters and gave each his own easily recognized persona. He is definitely on my top ten narrators having just rendered a great performance that increased my enjoyment of Decisively Engaged.
    Excellent Book
Highly Recommend this Book!!! Will be checking out other Books from series and Author... If you enjoy Ground Pound Military SciFi get this Book
    A good SciFi book.
I may get hung up on details. But, the author is not consistent on his use of units. Overall a good science fiction book.
    Wow, What a pleasant surprise!
Let me say first that this is not my normal kind of Science -Fiction book. I am usually far more interested in the works of China Mieville, say, or a new discovery of my own. This book was popping up on occasion however when I had the time to delve, and I gave it a shot. I am really glad I did! Far more depth and realism in this book than any, "Oh, look I solved an obvious puzzle and poof I have a spaceship" carp await you in here. I did check the Amazon reviews and yup, apparently the gun stuff is all right and tight, and the military is fully believable and there are even characters!! Whom you will find yourself wondering what happens to, instead of flat, two dimensional cut-outs..and best of all is the clever idea the author has regarding "warp", which I found both funny and creepy but not silly! An excellent book and hint..the second one is good as well and there's a third out too! A finished trilogy! (I guess?) That's a prize right there!

Great start to a new series
Redfall is the first installment of what should be a great new series. I am a big fan of the apocalypse/society breakdown/zombie stories, and this fits right into that genre. The story takes place in a future where the world has transformed into a more dangerous place. Government corruption and additional controls are working to clamp down freedom in this new world.
Jay Falconer did a wonderful job painting the picture in this future landscape. He gives a great twist to future society without going off the deep end and making it completely evil and dark. The plot of book one revolves around some new technology that is unleashed, and Jay does good job explaining it in a believable way.
The characters are well developed and behave in a very believable manner.
Gary Tiedmann (Narrator) does a very solid job. I enjoyed the way he changed his pitch and tone between characters so that you easily understand who is speaking.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and am excited to listen to book 2.

    Sad, gripping, and exciting.
This is a very interesting book and it is hard to describe. It's hard to classify this book because I could almost see a lot of these things happening from this book - like public executions on pay-per-view. If you like adventure, conspiracy, special-ops, mystery, and so on, this book may be your book. I honestly had difficulty pausing and going to sleep. This is a very good start to a series and if the other ones are even half as good, they would be worth listening to the end.

    Nothing Predictable About This Book
    Any additional comments?
I really liked this book. The author created a unique world and cause for the collapse of society.I appreciate when an author provides flawed characters trying to survive in a untenable world.I have read a lot of predictable apocalyptic fiction and was quite pleased that the author has something unique to add to the genre. The book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger which i expect with a series.

    overlooked apocalyptic masterpiece
I have been an admitted Tevis fan since Man Who Fell, and Queen's Gambit (not available here yet) but Man Who Fell and Mockingbird are incredible. These 2 are so full of poetry and symbolism that I've taken extensive notes toward writing a paper on them some day in an attempt to get their recognition. Mockingbird was apparently up for a Nebula for best novel and I'm curious as to what beat it. Everything is Tevis' best here: Wasteland imagery; fertility imagery; mechanization needed for human advancement yet in conflict with survival; systems malfunctioning a bit like Pynchon; and a heavy dose of the Fahrenheit 451 loss of literacy and its value. (you could easily go to this after 451 as a type of thematic sequel) this is my 3rd time with this one (read twice and listened to once) and I keep finding new connections like all the mentions of King Kong which sound odd but if you think about it in connection with the story, it brings up some interesting ideas/questions. Tevis deserves to be taught in college, at least Man & Mockingbird, almost every page has some key image or symbol for you to ponder after the story is done.
451; Mockingbird; Canticle for L; Man Who Fell; Childhood's End all chock full of ideas and symbolism if you want to look, if not, great stories anyway.
    1984 + Brave New World =
It was difficult to finally find this gem of a story...fits nicely with what is happening today: marijuana legalization, Valium, "privacy" (mobiles), AI, etc....
    Deeply Engaging
This is a highly creative, original, and imaginative work. It kept me thoroughly engaged throughout. The only thing that bugged me a little was his use of marijuana as a mind numbing drug used to placate the populous. I don't know if Walter Tevis lived through the late 60s and early 70s, but the drug's use hardly numbed the minds of its users, rather along with LSD, it spurred revolution in the streets and an evolution of art and music. He should have done a little self experimentation if nothing else. However, other than this forgivable mistake, the story and characters will remain with me for a very long time.
    classic story
This story shows the natural outcome of government providing all our needs and hedonistic desire.
    Eerily prescient
This book is about a species going out not with a bang but with a whimper.
