    Publisher's Summary:
A quantum physicist shocks the world with a startling experiment, igniting a struggle between science and theology, free will and fate, and antagonizing forces not known to exist.
Eric Argus is a washout. His prodigious early work clouded his reputation and strained his sanity. But an old friend gives him another chance, an opportunity to step back into the light.
With three months to produce new research, Eric replicates the paradoxical double-slit experiment to see for himself the mysterious dual nature of light and matter. A simple but unprecedented inference blooms into a staggering discovery about human consciousness and the structure of the universe.
His findings are celebrated and condemned in equal measure, but no one can predict where the truth will lead. And as Eric seeks to understand the unfolding revelations, he must evade shadowy pursuers who believe he knows entirely too much already.

Started out good but fell flat
Enjoyed the beginning but about 1/3 into the story I started losing interest. The story hinges around the theoretical multi-universe, do we have a soul, do we really exist, etc. From there it is just about the protagonist learning about how the world really isn't what he thinks and him running from the bad guys. Lost interest and never got it back!
Ted Kosmatka is My New Favorite Writer
What did you love best about The Flicker Men?
The writing in The Flickermen is superb--some of the best I have ever read. The writer uses dramatic images fleshed out in tight text to cast characters and a plot that is exciting, interesting and engrossing. At the risk of sounding cliche, this book was a page turner that I had trouble setting down.
What did you like best about this story?
The story was fresh and compelling. In a lot of audio books, I find myself wishing to get by certain points. . .the authors either draw things out too long or are too choppy for comfort. Not so with this story; the character development is efficient and the scenes rich and varied; little in this book is over done.
What does Keith Szarabajka bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
My first impression of the narrator was that his voice sounded too old for the main character. After a bit, though, I came to love his performance. Keith Szarabajka made the main character into an old wise soul while Ted Kosmatka keep him from being a super hero or a know-it-all.
As I eye up future books to listen to, I disappointed that Keith Szarabajka does not perform other books by the author.
    Any additional comments?
This book is now one of my all time favorite audio books and that is saying something. I highly recommend this to others. It is a real shame that more people have not experienced this book to date.
    Better start than finish
I was very intrigued at the start of this book and it held my attention and interest until just over halfway. The science was a bit difficult for me to follow, but not unreasonably so, and I very much liked the forays into philosophy (and religion). As the story progressed it become a more standard tale and one that, for me, lost its uniqueness.
    Pay attention...you will need too.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would if that friend was into quantum physics, string theory and pan universe creatures.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Edit, edit and edit some more.

    Self Loathing
Would you try another book from David Feintuch and/or Vikas Adam?
    maybe
Has Prisoner's Hope turned you off from other books in this genre?
It has turned me off for this series. I enjoy the SCIFI story line, its well written. But after three books of the "hero" self loafing and beating himself up, I decided not to complete the series. I thinks its childish that the main character does not mature. I get that he is "following the Navy way" but he is short sighted and all around irritating that he does grow up.. He acts childish and I just can't handle the self effacing and bitterness.
Have you listened to any of Vikas Adams other performances before? How does this one compare?
NA - the reading was good, There needs to be longer breaks between sceen changes
    Any additional comments?
I read to enjoy the story. its hard when the main character is in a constant state of pity.
    Self-pity over done
Would you consider the audio edition of Prisoner's Hope to be better than the print version?
    i never read the book.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
its take on naval life, and religion.
What does Vikas Adam bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
bring the characters to life in a better way than others.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    no
    Any additional comments?
the self-pity is over done. as no one trys to give a main character a realistic base for him to compare his actions against it make his self-pity greater. the i hate me is so great that it almost make the story bad. the author should have incorporated more into the story to moderate that, a counter point of some kind. if another captain had a man put to death for something that seefort would not have but told him that's what you would have done. something along that line.
The continuing adventures of an unbearable protagonist.
As this is the third book in the series, this review is aimed at other readers who are continuing on from book 2, if you are a new reader, give Midshipman's Hope a shot!
This book represents both a high point and low point for the series so far. High due to the larger amount of action, conspiracy and enjoyable side characters (such as Seaforts former bully from his days of academy).
The low point focuses on Seafort himself, while his religious convictions certainly add much to the story surrounding him, his depressive state throughout most of this book is neigh-unbearable.

    Title: Dark Orbit
    Author: Carolyn Ives Gilman
    Narrator: Melanie Ewbank
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 21 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-14-15
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 65 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
From Nebula and Hugo Award-nominated Carolyn Ives Gilman comes Dark Orbit, a compelling novel of alien contact, mystery, and murder.
Reports of a strange, new habitable world have reached the 20 Planets of human civilization. When a team of scientists is assembled to investigate, exoethnologist Sara Callicot is recruited to keep an eye on an unstable crewmate. Thora was once a member of the interplanetary elite, but since her prophetic delusions helped mobilize a revolt on Orem, she's been banished to the farthest reaches of space to minimize the risk her very presence may pose.
Upon arrival the team finds an extraordinary crystalline planet laden with dark matter. Then a crew member is murdered, and Thora mysteriously disappears. Thought to be uninhabited, the planet is in fact home to a blind, sentient species whose members navigate their world with a bizarre vocabulary and extrasensory perceptions.
Lost in the deep crevasses of the planet among these people, Thora must battle her demons and learn to comprehend the native inhabitants in order to find her crewmates and warn them of an impending danger. But her most difficult task may be persuading the crew that some powers lie beyond the boundaries of science.

Should Have Been a Short Story
First, in spite of the low star rating, this is not an awful book; it just has some deal breakers for me.
I was intrigued by this book for the first hour or so. It moved quickly and introduced some interesting ideas about perception and identity. (I'm not going to go into any real plot information; you can find that anywhere.) The framing with switching between diary entries and direct first-person narrative is also well-handled, and the narrator was good.
Gilman's point in writing Dark Orbit was obviously to explore the issue of perception. How much can we trust our senses? How integral are our senses to our ability to our experience of reality? On a related note, she also deals with identity. These are great ideas, and the initial introduction of these concepts is well handled and fascinating. I love science fiction for its ability to do exactly this. I'm not a battles-in-space sci-fi reader.
Unfortunately, the novel bogged down when Moth, a planet native boards the ship and asks to be taught to see. The descriptions of trying to teach not just "her," but her brain to see quickly become tedious and take over the book at the expense of everything else. Gilman had made her point, to me anyway, quickly and did not need to belabor it. Over. And Over. And Over. At this same time, a member of the crew is trying to learn to live without sight. ~sigh~ same song, second verse. I get it, already.
I think this would have been a stellar (pun intended) short story, with all the repetitiveness eliminated and everything tightened up. It could have worked; it should have worked. It didn't. At least not for me.
It's not that nothing happens; it's just that it's so long between things happening that I stopped caring about the plot or characters. These philosophical science fiction novels only work when the philosophy is integrated, not superimposed.
Would I try another Gilman book? Well, Yes and no: The characters were well-developed, and the ideas were worth exploring, but I'd be more apt to pick up another Gilman book in print so that I could just skip over the digressions once I got the point.

    Great Book
I loved it, I am a GFL fan and this book just adds to it's greatness!
the GFL universe is a really fun environment....
the GFL universe is a really fun environment....full of great stories.! #goodread # # #
    Fun Fast and Brutal
This is perhaps one of my favorite Sigler short stories, and one of my favorite stories from his GFL series.
One thing to note about Siglers GFL ( Galactic football league ) series is that its not really about the football - tho you definitely can feel Siglers passion for the sport. As it really reads more like a futuristic Crime novel, with a galactic space opera back drop and incredibly interesting characters.
Now take that formula and apply it to Combat sports, turn the volume up to eleven and you go from rock'n'roll to pure HEAVY METAL.
I desperately want to see more of this aspect in the siglerverse with a follow up to this novella, a boy can only dream.
This book is pure fun and more than worth the short amount of time it takes to read or listen to.
Great story! Love the GFL series.
Some small issues with the sequence of the recorded storyline. Looking forward to Alive though. Can't wait for another awesome book by Scott.
only bother if you enjoy fights.
Would you try another book from Scott Sigler and Matt Wallace and/or Scott Sigler?
I loved the GFL and tore though them all in a month. So i figure I had to get any that are associated with it. The Reporter is excellent. Although I wish I had known that it tied in with the GFL All Pro book when I was listening to it.
This book really doesn't have anything to do with the GFL other then a couple characters. I don't watch MMA and couldn't possibly care less about it. So I really never got into this book.

    good book
naration was very good and brought the chtrs to life.the story had action from begining to end
    A surprisingly good listen
When I first purchased this audiobook, I was sceptical as most of the reviews that I saw were negative. Upon listening to the audiobook, however, I found it to be amazing. I loved every second of it and the narrator did a fantastic job differentiating the characters. I really do not understand the hate for this book.
sometimes a story just goes too long
enjoyed the first two. , the romantic overtones mixed with the commitment to the teams became a little too exaggerated. All in all it was entirely a bad series,
ATLAS 3: Join Mil SpecOps & fight in an ATLAS mech
SciFi Mech Thriller: thats ATLAS 3 in 3 words.
** This review has no spoilers.**
Lots of real life U.S. military personnel are apparently fans of this series. ATLAS 3 has shades of American Sniper and a James Patterson thriller, while in another way it reminds me of John Scalzis Old Mans War, or Heinleins Starship Troopers. ATLAS 3 comprises some exciting military Spec Ops missions set in a futuristic Sci Fi environment. The tech and combat use proper military terminology and tactics, and are as realistic as you can imagine, given that this is Sci Fi. The use of technologically advanced mechs is used judiciously, adding to the complexity of the action scenes.
Once again in this instalment, Berkrot proves a wonder with a microphone, swapping personalities and accents and tone instantaneously as he switches from character to character. I laughed when reading the comedic scenes, and these are funny all over again when Berkrot orates them. I even got some jokes that I didnt find funny while reading, because Berkrot reads them the way they are supposed to be read.
The main Spec Ops missions of Digger and Outrigger squad make up the bulk of the novel, and provide a great deal of suspense and thrills as Tahoe and Rade attempt to complete their missions. It always surprises me how much I laugh when listening to Isaac Hookes books, as he has a great sense of humor that Berkrot plays well as he expresses it expertly through the characters. The combat and the tension never cease, and the characters Rade, Tahoe and Shaw are very well developed throughout.
Isaac Hooke is a great writer, and 47 North has done well to have Peter Berkrot narrate ATLAS 3.

    Publisher's Summary:
The wizards discover, to their cost, that it's no easy task to change history.
Roundworld is in trouble again, and this time it looks fatal. Having created it in the first place, the wizards of Unseen University feel vaguely responsible for its safety. They know the creatures that lived there escaped the impending Big Freeze by inventing the space elevator - they even intervened to rid the planet of a plague of elves who attempted to divert humanity onto a different time track. But now it's all gone wrong - Victorian England has stagnated, and the pace of progress would embarrass a limping snail. Unless something drastic is done, there won't be time for anyone to invent space flight, and the human race will be turned into ice pops.
Why, though, did history come adrift? Was it Sir Arthur Nightingale's dismal book about natural selection? Or was it the devastating response by an obscure country vicar called Charles Darwin, whose best-selling Theology of Species made it impossible to refute the divine design of living creatures?
Can the God of Evolution come to humanity's aid and ensure Darwin writes a very different book? And who stopped him writing it in the first place?

    Good
It's a good book in the series, but I would rather hear more from the wizards and less from the scientist.
    Incredible as always.
Last science chapter was a little colonialist (awkwardly pro-British and full of plaint savor how awesome British schooling USED to be, but world is ending now because it isn't the same, etc ad naseum) but can be ignored in the overall scheme of how awesome the rest of it was.
    Poor Darwin.
    not your typical discworld
I must admit i had trouble with this book.
it had me snickering at times but it's not a comedy in line with the actual discworld series. I havent yet finished it but suppose I will at some point.
the book still gets top marks from me as its well written and performed and the fault lies with me not fully understanding the book I bought expecting the traditional discworld hillarity.
Minds are well and truly blown!
Prior "Science of..." installments handle natural science brilliantly. "Darwin's Watch" is more mind blowing still.
more of an essay with a little Terry Pratchett
I believe that science proves the existence of a higher being and this book seemed to be aggressively against the beliefs that science and god can both exist, that if you believe in one that you can't believe in the other. Why can't the big bang and evolution be the mechanism used by God to create the world? If you don't believe in God that fine, but don't make it seem like I don't believe in science b/c I have faith.
Perhaps I was in the wrong frame of mind when I read/listened to this but that was the impression that I got. I should also say that I stopped listening after the 3rd chapter b/c of this impression.

A nicely written journey through the galaxy
What other book might you compare Endeavour to and why?
It is kind of unique as the the book is more about first contact and exploration rather than large space battles, it was a very nice change of pace from what I normally read and I wish there was more novels like it.
Which character as performed by Michael Kramer was your favorite?
I liked them all just about equally honestly maybe Tom is my favorite, the character development is great very balanced they all have a lot to share.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes Michael Kramer is fantastic with the narration it was my first audio of his and made the listening very easy and enjoyable but it took two sittings.
    Any additional comments?
This is a novel about first contact and a journey through space, exploring new worlds with a lot of future Earth based tech as well, don't buy it if your looking for space battles or space marines only. Don't get me wrong I like that type of science fiction as well but this book works perfectly for what it is, if you enjoy the question where are they what are they and how to get there with some great characters then this book is a great listen.
    One of the best!
I have read,(recently listened) to about 300 science fiction books. This book took me hostage, had not planned to take the time, but listened to the whole thing in one sitting. I don't know much about Ralph Kern... I would like to see more of his work! Michael Kramer was a perfect match, you could tell Mr. Kramer was into the book. When is #2 going to be out, I hope very soon.
    I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Where does Endeavour rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I would put this Book in the top 10 of the science fiction novels I have listened to.
What did you like best about this story?
What I enjoyed most was this was a science fiction story that did not involve any armies or or space navies. The main theme was Space exploration.
Have you listened to any of Michael Kramers other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No
    Rare take on exploration
Found this book because I was searching for books Michael Kramer narrated. Glad I gave it a chance. Very unique look at our universe, possible theories on other civilizations, and good usage of technology and theoretical technology. The end was so unexpected I jolted in the my seat when the last "act" started taking shape. Really am not surprised that much but...I was with this one! Looking forward to the next installment.
    Reminds me of Arthur C.

Each "repeat," Brad wakes up in the womb on what was supposed to be his fortieth birthday, with full knowledge of what's come before. In various timelines, he becomes a successful political pundit, a game-show champion, a playboy, and a master manipulator of the stock market, but none of them seems to lead him out of his predicament. As he realizes he wants to break out of the loop and find the love of his life - the one he hadn't appreciated the first time around - Brad tries, fails, and tries again to escape the eternal cycle of birth and rebirth. Repeat answers the question: If you could live half your life over, would you do things differently? Be careful what you wish for! Repeating is enough to drive a dude crazy.

SHE PULLED BRAD UP BY HIS PITTS
SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 22 YEARS OLD AND TOTAL AHOLE
Like many other reviewers, I picked this up because of my love for REPLAY, by Ken Grimwood. A book I picked up at a library clearance sale about 30 years ago. This book is not bad, but it is not Replay. While Replay started off the bat with a reincarnation, Repeat starts with a hour and a half of a loser droning on about his loserness. This is closer to a Neil Simon play. The emphasis is on being funny. I will admit that after I got over the pity party and realized it was not going to be Replay, I did find it laugh out loud funny in parts. In this reincarnation the main character goes all the way back to his birth. He also seems to be sent back in time by his witch wife. A wife that he loves and that loves him. He is unhappy because his career never went anywhere. I quit at about four hours. Not that the book was bad, it just wasn't what I was interested in. I am hoping in his second life he learned that being married to someone you love and having a good family is better than a successful career, but this is not a spoiler, cause I don't know.
Similar to Replay - But needs some work
This was fun book that is a similar storyline to Replay. However, the conversation is a bit stodgy at times and this story does not go into as many specifics through each timeline as Replay. All things considered, this is a good time loop story, but not the best I've listened to.
Laughed out loud but grimaced at all female voices
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoy time travel books. I'll listen to any of them. I listened to this after the First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. They have a similar trope, but the execution couldn't be more different. This was funny. Really laugh out loud funny. (I'm sure I looked weird laughing on the stair stepper at the gym.) And I loved the narrator UNTIL he did female voices. Even the females I was supposed to like sounded dreadful. Overall, this was a good break for me after some more serious listens. (Harry and The Girl with all the Gifts.) I enjoyed the time period in which it was set-- it was a personal trip down memory lane for myself as much as it was for Brad. It doesn't take itself too seriously but it does have some surprising poignant moments.
