In the vein of Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects and A.S.A. Harrison's The Silent Wife, The Devil You Know is a thrilling debut about a rookie reporter whose memories of the murder of her childhood best friend bring danger - and a stalker - right to her doorstep.
The year is 1993. Rookie crime-beat reporter Evie Jones is haunted by the unsolved murder of her best friend Lianne Gagnon, who was killed in 1982, back when both girls were eleven. The suspected killer, a repeat offender named Robert Cameron, was never arrested, leaving Lianne's case cold.
Now 21 and living alone for the first time, Evie is obsessively drawn to finding out what really happened to Lianne. She leans on another childhood friend, David Patton, for help - but every clue they uncover seems to lead to an unimaginable conclusion. As she gets closer and closer to the truth, Evie becomes convinced that the killer is still at large - and that he's coming back for her.
From critically acclaimed author Elisabeth de Mariaffi comes a spine-tingling debut about secrets long buried and obsession that cannot be controlled.

    Scary!
This was a great storyline and it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout most of the book. A lot of twists and turns to throw one off. The narrator was excellent and just made a great book even better. JC
    Awful
This wins the worst audiobook I bought in a while. Story is so weak, the narrative is discombobulated and absolutely disorganized, goes back and forth in overly descriptive dumb information, very repetitive and just bad, weak, lame. Nobody should have to endure this terrible book. How could this have any good reviews? I am a listener of many genres and enjoy most my purchases but this is terrible.
    Terrible
Skip this one. I actually couldn't finish it. The narrator made it even worse with her monotone voice. Hated it
    Wasted time/money...
This isn't a mystery. It's 10 hours of your life wasted by a story which is ultimately stupid and in the company of a narrator whose unfathomably irritating, whiny, and unlikable. Don't do it!
    Pretty good story
There where a few confusing moments but U think it may be to put you in the main characters state of mind. Over all a good book. book. The narrator was very good would definitely listen to her again.

    An Excellent Story!
A wonderful story of pre-World War II America.
    a great listen. Wonderful.
Now I shall follow the Saint West.
Pick a Saint, any Saint & Enjoy the Ride!
What made the experience of listening to The Saint in Miami the most enjoyable?
I am really adamant about choice of narrator! I have to really close my eyes and listen and really like the voice before I choose. That being said, I think John Telfer was born to read these! He could play 'The Saint' on radio if they remade the series! I absolutely LOVE his voice. I am a reader of Charteris, so I like some of his books more so than others, but when Telfer reads them they are almost all equally enjoyable!
What did you like best about this story?
I loved when Simon Templar charged thru the Everglades in the huge caterpillar tractor to get to the hidden complex of the bad guys!
    Which scene was your favorite?
Probably same as above & when the enemy Sub was sunk!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Just kind of listened with a smile on my face as The Saint went about his business in dealing with the baddies and the head of the local law enforcement.(Of course his semi-literate sidekick is always a hoot!)
    Any additional comments?
I thought I would do this as I listened to samples of the next SAINT I will listen to. John Telfer sounds like a cross between Roger Moore & Ian Ogilvy(Return of The Saint). It's like John McDonough being the PERFECT voice for the children's series "Freddy The Pig" by Walter R. Brooks. They were both born to do those particular series.

Not Politically Correct Snapshots in Time!
As I've written previously, Leslie Charteris' Saint series is a picture in time of 1930's England much as Dashiell Hammett & Raymond Chandler provide snapshots in time for the same period in American San Fransisco and Los Angles - warts and all. The prejudices of the time with the bigotry and racial attitudes of the day are rampant throughout the books. The "N" word is used in ways that may surprise many American readers to reflect attitudes of the Britons of the day at all levels of society.
Where Dashiell Hammett and his characters are terse and taciturn, Leslie Charteris is loquacious, but Simon Templar is one of the most loquacious and relaxed characters in the genre history! Reading these books one can see the development of the genre as we know it today.
Mr. Tefler delivers all characterizations with flair and verve.

Zack's guilt and anger have pushed him into a shadowy, wandering life, with little purpose and few attachments. Though managing a measure of justice, Zack is changed in the process, and must learn to live in a very different world.
    Members Reviews:
    Decent.
Zack Taylor is a man on a mission. His best friend has been murdered. What's worse is that nobody is wanting to consider it a murder. They all want it written off as a suicide. It's up to Zack to investigate and find out what really happened.
I really did like this story a lot. I think it had great potential. I feel like it could have used a little more flair and dramatics. I guess I adore my thrillers and get a little picky about them. To me it came off as a little dry and bland. I don't think there was anything wrong with this book. Like I said, I enjoyed it a lot.
The narrator could use a lot of work. He just didn't seem as intense as he could have been. He wasn't horrible. I was able to follow along with what he was saying. He just didn't get as excited about the story as I feel he should have. Could be why I didn't get into the story as much. I'll have to go back and actually read it and see if my opinion changes.
I do recommend this book. If you like mysteries and thrillers, this is a book for you. I may feel like it could use a little more work and intensity, but I do really like it. I could see myself reading the rest of this series and actually reading this book again.
    Action, Mystery, and More Action
Summary: Zack Taylors told his best friend just committed suicide, but he knows better and hes going to prove it.
    Additional Comments:
    - Warning not a clean book. Contains half a dozen f-bombs and plenty of violence.
    - Its a bit like a Jack Reacher book in that certain people get pounded and you still end up rooting for the good guy.
    - Theres a romance subplot that the book could have done without. Its not that it was bad, but it seemed a tad forced.
    - The characters are likable - or unlikable - as theyre supposed to be.
    - There are a few light-hearted moments. The descriptions are decent.
    - I heard the narrated version. Although I cant say the narrators voice is my favorite, he fits the character well and put on a solid performance.
Conclusion: Mystery that provides an excellent excuse for the main character to bust peoples heads (and arms and whatnot).
    * I received a free copy of the audiobook. The opinions expressed here are my own and I freely chose to leave this review.

    What Did I Miss/
Mask of Troy is described as a fast moving explosive thriller.....What did I miss? I seldom find a book I cannot finish but after about 200 pages I gave up the struggle to read this crap. The plot is so convoluted and messy that it is hard to follow and the whole Homeric theme that is supposed to be the glue that holds the plot together is ridiculous. This book is primarily about whether or not the Trojan War is myth or reality and how its impacted future history of man. What a joke.
The characters are boring, the dialogue is absurd and I must say that this author makes Steve Berry look like a genius and that is saying alot. That pretty much sums up all the good things I have to say about this lousy book!!!!
    warriors or killers
A small percentage of people, majorly men, go toward the battle. It matters not the nature of the battle. It may be gun fire, an accident, a fire, or type of emergency. Some go with heat, with experience they go with cold. I appreciate that the drama with Rebecca was without detailed violence, far better to imagine the fear and anxiety. The killing of evil without overwrought remorse come with experience and a sense of true justice. The details of history and archeology remind me of the Matthew Reilly " Mercer" character.
    Pretty Ruthless
This book was pretty down and dirty for Gibbins. It brings into play the concentration camps and human experiments done by the Nazis. Our heroes are on the trail of the Mask of Troy, an artifact taken out of Greece by Henrich Schleiman when he excavated Troy. All in all, a very good read, just be prepared for a little nitty gritty.
    DISSAPOINTING
THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT BOOK HOWEVER IT WAS OVER SUPPLIED WITH MINUTE DETAIL IT BECAME SOME WHAT BORING WITH ITS CONSTANT REFERENCE TO HOMER.
    Great storyline
Love the history in his stories and great characters, my only complaint is the difficulty I have sometimes with the terminology used to describe events

    Hillerman meets Castenada meets Chandler
Not bad. Tony Hillerman meets Carlos Castenada meets Raymond Chandler. The narrator takes too many breaths and pauses at awkward spots through the first half of the book. He either gets better, or I got used to him in the second half.

Until one of his park rangers, to save a visitor's life, is in a deadly struggle out in the woods with a new breed of dinosaur worse than the last one. It's as big as a man, but this one is a young one. And growing.

    Book 2
If you could sum up Dinosaur Lake II in three words, what would they be?
I recommend that you read/listen to the first book in this series reading them in order. I actually liked the first one better than this one but this book is great too like the 1st book.
I just gobble up anything along these lines I can get my hands on. Some of it is truly execrable. That is not the case with these books....they are quite good. Although falling short on the technical side, they are very character-driven, and the characters are likable and well-developed.
    High Action and Inventive Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! I loved this story. I got through it in two days. Very engaging and exciting.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character. You spend a lot of time in his head, knowing his worries and concerns. He was very likeable. All the characters were very likeable.
    Which scene was your favorite?
There are a few scenes that are a close tie, but the last action scene was really gripping. Ok, I'm going to add another one, too. There's a humorous dream sequence that made me laugh out loud (and I was at work).
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
One of my favorite characters is attacked. I won't say anything more, don't want to give it away, but I was really starting to like the character and the idea this person who I like was going to be killed after everything, upset me. It was a pretty scary scene.
    Any additional comments?
Just I loved this book, loved the first one, and I'm hoping there's an audio version of the third one. I like audio books best. I get more absorbed in the story.
    This book is incredibly awesome!
What an incredible read! I read / listened to this book in audio format via audible.com. I always choose the audio books first as the narrators tend to breath life into the stories, thus giving them a heart beat so to speak. This particular book is proof of that.
