    Psychological & Physical Intrigue!
What did you love best about What She Saw?
This story is both a psychological and physical thriller with constant twists and turns. Every time I thought I knew what to expect I was wrong by a mile. Interesting concept, engaging characters, constant intrigue, and having it include handwriting analysis, which is a great interest of mine, was a big bonus.
    Awesome story! Awesome listening experience!
What made the experience of listening to What She Saw the most enjoyable?
The main character immediately pulled me in as the psychological expense built. Aria's narration of Jen's journey to discover who she was and what happened made me feel that I was hearing and feeling Jen's thoughts and emotions.
What other book might you compare What She Saw to and why?
Poison Pen.. I love forensic mysteries.
Have you listened to any of Aria McKennas other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    No
    Twists at every turn ...
Where does What She Saw rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It is in the top 20 or so. I would listen to this one again!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes! Without giving anything away I didn't see a lot of the twists and turns coming.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Again without giving anything away it was when the lead female character found out who she was.
    Any additional comments?
After listening to this story, I am interested in listening to other stories in the "Forensic Handwriting Series".
    A Pleasant Surprise
Maybe not great literature, but a nice twist on familiar amnesiac stories, with enjoyable characters and plenty of suspense. I didn't know what to expect, having never heard of the author, but I'm impressed with this effort and will look for more. Narration is also very well done. A good investment of a credit!
    A Page Turner
What did you love best about What She Saw?
I loved that I could't guess where the story was going. I usually can guess the outcome way before a book ends but this one kept me guessing.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, this book makes good use of suspense. I felt there was danger at every moment and the feeling of not knowing who you are helped this. Are you with a friend or enemy? Keep reading.
What does Aria McKenna bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Good job and I prefer being read to as my eyes aren't too good.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, but I don't want to write it here as it is a spoiler.
    Any additional comments?
I have read other books by Sheila Lowe and have enjoyed them very much. This book was very special and I would like to see these characters again in future books. Once I started listening, I was driven to get through and then disappointed that it was over.

    Publisher's Summary:
Call her a petite princess or a paranoid neurotic, either way, Ana Devlin has the instincts of a chameleon. She can disappear into the woodwork, share tea with a queen, or flatten a thug with one swift kick, but what she really wants is to provide her dysfunctional younger siblings with the security of the home shes been denied. When her sister's VIP father is accused of murdering his aide, she decides it's time to go home.
Instead of finding security, she discovers her grandfather has died without the family being notified, his mansion has been usurped by a stranger who never leaves the third floor, and her grandfathers executor has absconded to the Caribbean with the proceeds of their inheritance. If murder hasnt already been committed, she might perpetrate one herself - starting with the annoying spider in the attic.
To avoid murder, she makes a pact with the devil who apparently now owns the home she is determined to win back. While she searches for the absconding lawyer and the real murderer of the senators aide, she will help their landlord locate a mysterious Cambodian - until oddly, the threads of all three mysteries begin to twine together, and someone is intent on cutting the cord before Ana comes too close to finding the answers.
    Editorial Reviews:
Living in reclusion from her neurotic family, Ana Devlin is suddenly visited by two of her younger siblings, in search of a place to stay while their politician father tries to shake allegations of murder. Ana wants to reconnect with her family, but quickly discovers the dysfunction is worse than she imagined: Her grandfather has mysteriously died, his fortune seized by an unscrupulous executor, and his house sold to a paranoid hermit. Only through her relationship with the very man who disinherited her can Ana hope to untangle the messy plot against her nearest and dearest. Her voice tinged with intrigue, performer Katina Kalin handily personifies the hung up heroine, at turns playfully sarcastic and obsessively maladjusted.

    An Author Goes Too Far
Six hours through i was ready to grant this audiobook a five star rating, The quirky off beat characters are interesting The plot line about a displaced family attempting to reclaim their inheritance is good.Unfortunately there is two to three hours of useless filler material forced into this book. Two many rehashes of possible culprits. Too much doubt on the part of the main character about whether or not she can trust the "oracle." Way too many declarations from her about how "she would do anything for her family." This despite the fact that she has been estranged from her family several years. Despite all this I have no compunction about recommending this audiobook. It's a nice listen and is even heartwarming at times. It isn't great, but i do rate it as quite good.

    Love My Family Homeland
Although I realize Declan Cross is a fictitious town, my homeland are is nearby...County Tipperary, and having had the good fortune of a visit to the area, I really enjoyed the descriptions. The story line was good...a lot of background information helped, as I followed our characters. Carla Neggers knows how to get my attention and keep my heart in rapid beating. You will enjoy this story...and learn a lot about native Irishmen.
I remembered why I don't read Carla Neggers.
This was on sale and the reviews sounded good, so I got it. I read so much and so widely I think I can be excused for forgetting this author. I looked into my kindle library and there are two other books by her, unfinished. I can tolerate an uninteresting or pedestrian plot. I can't tolerate a book with no likable characters. This book had both. I really didn't like the Sharpe and Donovan characters, the immature Donovan brother, etc. I don't need to list them all. Hopefully, I won't succumb to any more sales.
Ready for the next Sharpe & Donovan book!!
This is just as exciting as the first two books and I'm ready for the next one. Patience is a virtue and I must wait virtuously, I suppose. Carla Neggers is a favorite of my reading group. She always has a lot happening in her books - romance, drama, rescue and some fun. The characters in each series seem to show up in the following books and that makes it feel like you are one of the group. We really enjoy Carla Neggers' books and recommend them to one and all who enjoy a good mystery with characters who are brave and keep the adventure in solving the mystery, or mysteries, going. Great book from a great series!
    A Revelation
Finally the art thief is revealed! There are a lot of descriptions of each character and location. Although these are needed - to a point - it gets a bit repetitious and tiresome. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book very much!

    This was an okay book
I don't regret listening to this one, however, it was not a great book. It was just average. Everything about it was average. If you don't have anything you want to listen to and you like a nice little scary mystery than go for it. If you are looking for something you will think about long after the book is done, then this is not the one for you.
    Juvenile
For me there was no suspense at all, a lesson in giving too much information on the internet, and the strongest word in the entire book was "shit"!
I would recommend this book to 13-14-yr-olds, but if you are older than that it won't hold your interest. This book is more about the insecurities of young teens and less about the sins of the parents. I kept reading and reading, waiting for the suspense, waiting for the plot to grow and reveal itself. The suspense never came and the plot (plot?) waited to the end of the book to be revealed.
I think a parent of pre and early teen girls may recommend this to their daughters as a lesson in the real-life evils of the internet.
    Carrie the movie
What did you like best about The Good Sister? What did you like least?
I liked the mystery and suspense. Every now and then I was thinking how this was the movie Carrie all over again. It ends differently of course. It was still entertaining and spot on for the type of book I was in the mood for at the time. Very real life-dealing with bullying and mysterious on-line friends who are really predators.
Would you be willing to try another book from Wendy Corsi Staub? Why or why not?
Yes I would try another book-author shows promise.
Have you listened to any of Allyson Ryans other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not-I thought the narrator was good.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I would rent-not a box office hit, but a good thriller.

    Surprisingly good
I read the premis and thought, could be interesting . Glad I took the chance. My serial killer /PSD allogory was sadly lacking before this. This book is a solid 3.75. There is also a YA book based on the same idea and I think I will get that also. Definitely worth your time cash or credit. Enjoy
Perhaps I was the wrong audience
I will assume you've read the publisher's summary (the book is about a mad experiment to clone famous serial killers, etc., etc.).
Apparently, there was a YA book released with this book written from the perspective of one of the clones (who pairs with the main protagonist to try to solve the mystery). Well, I can't imagine how much more YA than THIS version it can be. Except for the incredibly vicious, brutal (and oftentimes gratuitous) depictions of violence, this certainly did not feel like an adult novel.
Or perhaps the plot was simply too ambitious to leave room for much of anything else (such as character development). The sheer amount of space that had to be devoted to explaining who all these serial killers were created many stops-and-starts along the story.
All in all, it seemed to ramble.
If you're looking for a good clone-from-evil story, read the classic, The Boys from Brazil, instead.

Really enjoyed this second Kate Maguire book!
On to the third one! I wish there were at least 10 books in this series!
I thought this book was excellent!
Would you consider the audio edition of Broken Angels: Kate Maguire Book 2 to be better than the print version?
This story is gripping and very timely. I truly enjoyed listening. Narrator did an excellent job.
What did you like best about this story?
Interesting to consider that this or something similar may have happened to impoverished orphans in institutions years ago, well, not that long ago.
Stories about the Catholic clergy, the secrecy, the cover-ups, are very timely.
The fact that it takes place in Ireland, where so many are Catholic, was very interesting and made it more believable.
What does Caroline Lennon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Narrator did a credible job of both Irish and American accents.
    Can't Walt for More
This series is fantastic. I have enjoyed listening to the first two novels and am anxiously awaiting the third. Caroline Lennon is my favourite female narrator by far.
Creepy Imagination that makes it hard to put down!
Kate Maquire continues her story in this book and its great to travel with her as she solves another confounding mystery. Graham Masterons imagination is definately gory and most definately in parts gross but at the same time I wanted to know what and who were behind those masks. The effort that he puts into every death is truly amazing and horrifying and the next death worse than the last it can make the jaw drop in horror!
    Porn and violence again!.
What would have made Broken Angels: Kate Maguire Book 2 better?
TONE DOWN the torture scenes and the sexual scenes, I don't need to share the feelings of a a vulnerable young woman being slowly and horribly tortured in minute detail. The sexual scenes are almost clinical certainly NOT sensual or romantic
What other book might you compare Broken Angels: Kate Maguire Book 2 to and why?
I would have to look under the S and M category.
Which character as performed by Caroline Lennon was your favorite?
    Kate Magiore
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It is well written with clearly defined characters. Good background and without the S&M
    a good book.
    Any additional comments?
I bought the first book in this series and was so impressed by the strong writing and characters that I bought the second "Broken Angels" I did this in the belief that such a good author would not make the same mistakes twice.

    Members Reviews:
Have Been Waiting for This Book in Audio for Years
This is the first of the two DI Bobby Maiden books published by Phil Rickman under the name Will Kingdom in the 1990's. I bought and read them in paperback ages ago but was really looking forward to the audio version that has been available in the UK for a couple of years at least. I HATE geo-restrictions. There are in fact a lot of books on the UK site that the authors would have sold to me if it were not for geo-restrictions.
DI Maiden is a reluctant but successful detective, the son of a hard bitten old fashioned copper. He dies after being involved in a car wreck and is brought back to life by the determination of Sister Anderson, a nurse who knew him when he was a young constable.
Another strand of the story involves Marcus Bacton, former schoolmaster and the owner and editor of The Phenomenologist, an old fashioned magazine concentrating on occult knowledge and events, a Celtic Shaman/aging actor and ventriloquist, and a popular television personality/scholar. At the center of this is a tor, an ancient sacred site, which some would hold was sacred to death, others would hold as sacred to life and healing.
Then from America, a New Age columnist comes looking for her sister who was involved with a dream project run by the television personality.
Not as compelling as the Merrily Watkins books, but quite interesting with a host of unique characters. Creepily scary.
Sean Barrett is not as good as Emma Powell who narrates the Merrily books. Powell does a far better American accent than Barrett. Fortunately Barrett pretty much forgets the flat, nasal American accent he gives Grayle in the beginning.
Now let's have the rest including The Man in the Moss and the second DI Maiden book.
    Way too long.
Would you consider the audio edition of The Cold Calling to be better than the print version?
The copy editor needed to use his pencil more drastically. The story was excellent, and excellently written, but could have been cut drastically w/out any ill effect.
    Frighteningly good!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Cold Calling to be better than the print version?
You really can't lose with either.
Who was your favorite character and why?
There are too many to choose just one.

    Publisher's Summary:
"America's best novelist" (The Denver Post) and "the reigning champ of nostalgia noir" (The New York Times Book Review) introduces his most evil character yet in the 20th thriller in the bestselling Dave Robicheaux series.
A New York Times bestselling author many times over, James Lee Burke is a two-time Edgar Award-winner whose every book is cause for excitement, especially those in the wildly popular Dave Robicheaux series.
In Light of the World, sadist and serial killer Asa Surrette narrowly escaped the death penalty for the string of heinous murders he committed while capital punishment was outlawed in Kansas. But following a series of damning articles written by Dave Robicheauxs daughter Alafair about possible other crimes committed by Surette, the killer escapes from a prison transport van and heads to Montana - where an unsuspecting Dave happens to have gone to take in the sweet summer air, accompanied by Alafair, his wife Molly, faithful partner Clete, and Cletes newfound daughter, Gretchen Horowitz, whom listeners met in Burkes most recent bestseller Creole Belle.
"James Lee Burke remains the heavy weight champ," says New York Times bestseller Michael Connelly, "a great American novelist whose work...is unsurpassed." The master proves it once again with this harrowing novel that examines the nature of evil and pits Dave Robicheaux against the most diabolical villain he has ever faced.
    Members Reviews:
    Like Fathers, Like Daughters
There is not much to add to the praise that's already been written19 times before for the Dave Robicheaux novels, and the consistency and magnificence of James Lee Burke -- an American treasure. With Light of the World, Burke gives readers the 20th DR novel since debuting the Louisiana Sheriff Detective in Neon Rain, in 1987. Ardent fans have gone through every imaginable crime scenario with Robicheaux; amazingly, Burke still imagines new and even more menacing trouble for Dave and long-time partner Clete as they continue their unorthodox battle to wipe out the bad guys and defend justice. This time around that bad guy is a sadistic serial killer, and when he sets out to settle an old score by snuffing out the light in Dave's world...the bayou buddies are in rare form.
Barely on the mend from their last shoot-out (Creole Belle), the guys and their families travel across the map to big sky country in Montana for some much-needed R & R. Everything seems perfect for a vacation of fishing and relaxing until an arrow whizzes by Alafair while she is hiking a trail, missing her by a cat's whisker. Dave doesn't think the shot was a mistake, and launches into an investigation that steps on the local sheriff's toes, especially when he comes across some alarming reports of recently missing young women. The little arrow incident seems to be connected to the abductions and quickly Dave and Clete are on their own trail of a different kind. Daughters Alafair and Gretchen Horowitz (always written with her surname for some reason) show they are chip-ettes off the ol' blocks, fearlessly following in their father's footsteps. The action starts before the dust can settle on their sleeping bags, and is continuous as the two daddy/daughter tag teams fight probably the darkest character they have faced.

Her novels combine courtship plots with vividly-realized settings and demure social satire. Bridge went on to write novels around a serious investigation of modern historical developments. In the 1970s Bridge began to write thrillers centered on a female amateur detective, Julia Probyn, as well writing travel books and family memoirs. Her books were praised for their faithful representation of foreign countries which was down to personal experience and thorough research.

I recommend looking up the locations she sets her stories in
This is one of her later books, and while it incorporates some interesting details of life in Ireland, it didn't interest me as much as some of her earlier works. I recommend looking up the locations she sets her stories in, and choose from there. She made even Albania, a country I didn't know anything about, very interesting. "Julia in Ireland" does continue a series about Julia, so it was good for that.
    But i do enjoy them.
Not as interesting as some of the earlier Bridge mysteries with respect to Julia. But i do enjoy them.
This is not the best book in the series.
Julia is a very interesting character. The author seems to be trying to get rid of her by marrying her off. I was disappointed that there was no mystery at all. The previous books were much better, more imaginative and the settings seemed well researched. This must be the last Julia book. I'll miss her.
I wish this weren't the final book
I have read parts of this series many times over the years and enjoyed them anew each time. I wish there were more books to read but was really glad to read this last one Which I had not seen before. I'm sure I will reread it before too long too.
    Three Stars
It was pleasant, and a quick read.

After the rise comes the fall....
When a cyber-attack at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland disables the Hubble telescope and the Nobel Prize-winning scientist in charge disappears, the only clues left behind are a cryptic countdown clock and a chilling message displayed on the missing man's computer: Mankind Must Look No Further.
Newly appointed FBI agent Joe Shepherd, a former academic star with degrees in astrophysics and computer science, is uniquely qualified to handle the investigation, but he is also hiding some secrets of his own. He discovers a note in the missing scientist's handwriting that reads "end of days" and further evidence linking the cyber-attack to a series of strange events from eight months earlier - an explosion at the Citadel, an ancient monastery in Turkey; the deadly viral outbreak that occurred in its wake; and the disappearance of an American journalist named Liv Adamsen and ex-special forces operative Gabriel Mann.
Liv has been trapped in the Syrian desert, a prisoner of the prophecy that drove her there and now whispers of terrible things to come. Gabriel, infected and tormented by the deadly virus he carried out of the Citadel, is desperate to return before it spreads.
Shepherd's investigation takes him on a journey to the secrets at the very edge of the universe and also deep into his own past as the countdown clock continues and extraordinary events begin to manifest around the globe - animals migrating out of season, extreme weather battering the planet, people deserting the cities as they answer a growing urge to return to their original homes. In this exhilarating conclusion to the internationally best-selling Ruin trilogy, one woman's destiny weaves the past and present together in a way that will change the future for us all. But what is the "end of days" and what does it really mean for humankind - will it be revelation or devastation?

    Mankind Gets It?
If you've read the first two books, you'll be prepared for this one. The library with all the ancient knowledge in the world, the determined individuals who do the right thing to thwart the evil religious zealots, the world-wide effect of a mysterious force bringing people home. It's all intriguing, and a great story.
