Meh

Is should start by saying that, not realizing it was the middle of a series, I did start out of order. However, I didn't feel lost, and it was pretty easy to pick up the back-story. While it is fairly well written and is well performed, it just wasn't all that exciting. The science/magic wasn't all that clearly developed, making it mostly about the characters (which can still be fine). I just found myself not caring all that much about them. It was fine, and I finished reading it through the end, but didn't really have much of an inclination to read the others in the series.

It was ok

Overall I found this story to be ok. The plot itself was interesting with a fairly tight focus. While this is fine I really wanted to see more of the world and more of what was going on beyond the main character.

The book is short which was fine for the main plot, but it also lead to some plot developments that I felt were not earned. There is a heavy romance focus that seems to go from 0 to 60 in a few chapters.

Also likely due to the small size of the book there is so little description or explanation of the world or how it came to be that it seemed like a waste of and interesting idea.

The narrator while serviceable, seemed to lack emotion. She wasn't bad but I never felt any joy or excitement in her reading.

Overall it was not bad, but there are plenty of other titles out there.

if you like romance novels with a female genie thats mad at all men and ends up lilling her masters an angel who protects the current master in her wrath and a unusual twist unlike alot of genie romances i rean where its the man trapped and then gets romanic beween genie and the one who summoned them this time the genie and master dont fall in love but i wont give it away i will leave the suspence for you all

In Three Wishes, Jenny Schwartz's third book in her Out of the Bottle series, we finally get Andrew's story.

Cali is a djinn known as the Bringer of Death, as a result of her vow to kill every single person who possesses her bottle. Her latest owner is David Saqr, a weapons dealer who has turned down this road as a result of events unfolding in his youth.

Andrew is David's guardian angel, who will do whatever it takes to protect his charge. He never expected to be so strongly attracted to the djinn sworn to destroy David. When another blast form David's past shows up, Miriam, a woman who David rescued when they were both children and since taken a protective role in her life.

Andrew knows Miriam may be the only hope David has of turning from his deadly path, hoping that Cali will see David's redemption and realize that through love everyone is worth saving... even Cali.

Honestly, I really wasn't very interested in the story of Cali and Andrew. They had differences of opinion, some chemistry, a good deal of sex, a few tender scenes, and a change of heart. That's about all I got out of their part of the story, which is disappointing since they are the lead couple.

I was far more drawn to Miriam and David's romance in Three Wishes. These two connected at a young age only to be separated shortly thereafter. Neither one could ever forget the other. Miriam loved David and had a strong case of hero worship, which progressed over time into a romantic kind of love. Her bond to him was so strong, she left behind everything she held dear to confront him in his own world and call him to task for the dark turn of his soul. David always felt responsible for Miriam, watching her life from afar and providing for her in the only way he knew how, with blood money from his arms deals. When he sees her again face to face again, his heart begins to soften and heal, leading him to see the error of his ways.

I did love seeing the many ways that Cali will try to see her plans come to fruition, and Andrew's ways to thwart them. I have liked Andrew since he first appeared in the series, so I was excited to see him finally get his own love story at last.

Decent book but....

It is really hard to get around the narrator's voice. Everyone sounds like they have a cold. I purchased it so I am determined to listen to the end. But it is very hard :(

Could not finish

Hard to listen to the narrator. I read the paperback reviews on Amazon and was looking forward to a better read. I just could not finish.

Annoying narration

I can only give this recording 2 stars due to the excruciating narration.

I violated one of my own rules by not listening to the sample narration before purchasing this audio book. I know everyone has their own preferences, but please do yourself a favor and listen to the sample before you purchase this audio book. I'm about 1 hour into the book so far and I'm finding it very difficult to follow because the narrator sounds like she has a cold and is having trouble catching her breath.

In defence of the narrator

I have to say that I liked the narrator. I listen to all of my audiobooks in fast playback and this does make a huge difference to my tolerance level but she was far from intolerable.

So- if you want a mindless, fun listen- this is not far off the mark.

Keep in mind it is a Harlequin!

A novella refreshingly worthy to become much more.

A great little steampunk novella, BADLANDS has all the goods; with a kick-butt warrior heroin, a country invaded and on the verge of destruction, an unlikely romance budding and of course... clockworks and dirigibles. Well written and engaging, BADLANDS has a strong enough plot that it could easily be expanded in to a full novel or series. As it is now, Seleste de Laney's quick paced fantasy sci-fi is sure to intrigue fans of the steampunk genre or any reader up for a little romance with their action.

UGGHH

I have all of Megan Hart's audio books and love them ALL...but this one....TERRIBLE! I don't know if it was the story line or just that Megan isn't good at Science Fiction/Fantasy but what ever it is this book is terrible and would plead with anyone who is thinking about getting this book to buy something else...anything else.

WORSE MEGAN HART BOOK

Out of all the Megan Hart books available on audible this one is absolutely the worse. I felt it was seriously lacking something. I liked the whole control your dreams concept but not how the author went about it. And I found the ending to be really disappointing. The way the author ended the book was different from her usual happy endings. The only thing I really liked about this book was the narrator and I dont plan on listening to it again.
