Publisher's Summary:
This is a short story that was originally published in The Mammoth Book of Time Travel Romance.
Lia Stanton, a woman who likes things safe, accidentally gets caught in a wormhole when she's just supposed to be getting a nice, easy fluff piece to write. It throws her forward in time and space, landing her on a planet she doesn't recognize. On the heels of her arrival, she's accused of espionage and forms a connection to a man she never should have met.
Troll Maglaya is on his third tour of duty on Jarved Nine. Just when he thinks nothing here can surprise him, he's assigned to watch a suspected spy. As soon as he sees Lia, he knows her claim of time travel is true - he's carried a drawing of her for years, one made fifty years earlier.

Good short story
It's next to impossible to do anything worthwhile in a short story, so I'm being very generous with my rating.
The Troll Bridge first appeared in The Mammoth Book of Time Travel Romance. It's part of a series - which I have not read - but I think we were given just enough information for things to make sense for a new reader.
Ophelia (Lia) is living in 2002, and working as a reporter in some sort of extremely dull scientific place. As people in science laboratories tend to do, she gets sucked into a wormhole or something, and ends up in the year 2050, in a city built by aliens (aliens that thankfully are not in this story, because that would have required more world-building than a short story should have!). Once there, she's suspected of being a spy, and put into the care of extremely gorgeous (of course!) Special Ops soldier Chris - who insists on being called Troll.
Troll has an old drawing of Lia that his grandmother drew forty-eight years ago and gave to him when he was eighteen. She told him the woman in the picture was his soul mate. So that very nicely clears up any extended drama between them - his soul mate isn't going to be an evil spy he has to lock up and torture, after all - and we can get to our happy ending nice and quickly.
Yes, things moved incredibly fast. And yes, due to time constraints, Lia's character basically goes from "OMG I'm in the future!" to "Yes, I want to be with you in this new and scary world" so fast you'll get whiplash. But I thought the story was well-written, and I liked the characters.
Patti O'Shea managed to achieve quite a lot in a short space of time - there's enough here to comfortably fill a full length book, and I kind of wish it was. I'm definitely not an expert on science fiction or time travel stories, but for me this was pretty good.
Good Romance
I truly enjoyed this short story set on Jarved 9. The first two books in the series are some of my favorites and it was a pleasure to revisit that world. My only wish is that it could have been longer. But for the length, it was a really good romance.
Great story
Enjoyed the story but had one complaint, it was too short then I found the rest of her work. Believe me good futuristic story with quickly likeable characters. I loved the whole series.
One Star
Even for a short story it wasn't much of a read.
Love Jarved Nine
I was thrilled to see another Jarved Nine story by Patti O'Shea. I bought and read the original stories, Ravyn's Flight and Eternal Nights years ago and recently purchased them for Kindle.
