Modern fairytale hotness!

Selena Kitt has hit the mark on her new take of Pinnochio. Levi, the medically discharged marine sizzles with his old high school flame, Linnea and his story will touch your heart. A lyrical twist on the classic Pinnochio (I'm sure Mr Disney would not approve - Lol) but one I'm certain most readers will find enthralling, touching and a great read. AAA+++ for another great story adaptation Selena Kitt!

A very timely, captivating modern love story

Selena Kitt his another one out of the ball park with this timely and very sexy take on the Pinocchio fable. The tie-ins to the fable are very clever. A Marine with injuries meets his old love interest when he goes for rehab therapy at the VA hospital. The poignant story draws you in like every one of Selena's creations. My only gripe was some technical details about the military actions described. But those have no bearing on the story's overall quality. I wish this was a longer novel - it feels like we have to leave these characters all too soon. Highly recommended!

Enttäuscht nicht!

Der zweite Teil war mindestens genauso spannend und unterhaltsam wie der erste. Ich freue mich schon auf den dritten Band!

Ich dachte, Twilight ist nicht zu toppen, doch ich wurde einem besseren belehrt!!!

Und diese Geschichte hat absolut gar nichts mit Twilight zu tun, außer das es auch hier nicht nur Menschen gibt und eine unsterbliche Liebe ensteht- die NICHT nur Mittelpunkt der Geschichte ist!!!

Bitte lest es und lasst euch verzaubern und fesseln von einer tollen, wunderschönen und spannenden Geschichte :)

Ich freue mich jetzt schon, es ein DRITTES MAL zu lesen :) und es wird nicht das letzte mal sein!!

Feen, Wassermänner, Vampire, Werwölfe,...

Der 2. Band von Woolfs Saga um Emma und ihre verbotene Liebe beginnt vielversprechend und macht Lust auf das Lesen. Wobei der erste Band genau wie der Beginn von Teil 2 an "Twilight" erinnert, fühlt man sich schon bald in einer ganz anderen Geschichte wieder...: Fabelwesen wie Zauberer besuchen in Jugendjahren eine Art Zauberschule in einem Schloss, werden in überirdischen Fächern unterrichtet und einen Bösewicht gibt es auch, genauso wie einen Zauberspiegel...richtig, very potter-like.

Mir war der 2. Band etwas too much an Überirdischem. Dafür war der Schluss wirklich gelungen und hat mich überrascht. Aber meiner Meinung nach kann der 2. Teil nicht mit dem 1. Teil der Saga mithalten.

Better than book 1

My Initial Reaction...

I like the characters a lot more in Blood of a Red Rose than I did in Scent of a White Rose, though I seem to enjoy reading the villain's part best. Is that wrong?

The Narration...

Stephanie Bentley did a pretty good job narrating Blood of a Red Rose. I mentioned last time that I wasn't blown away by her narration and I think I know why now - she speaks so slow and evenly, maintaining the same pace regardless of emotion. She still does a good job giving characters varied voices, but I think her pacing strips away a bit of the characters' personalities and makes them seem a little flatter than they would be if you were reading.

The Good...

I continue to really like the vampire mythology in this series. It's fresh and different, especially considering that we're dealing with vampires - I've seen it all and yet, this is something different. I particularly like the way the vampires drift and I'm interested to see how things will develop with Rose and Christian, especially with how Blood of a Red Rose ended.

I'm really enjoying the parts of the story told from Meredith's point of view. Yes, she's the "bad guy", but she's complex and not so black-and-white. I'm not sure I'm supposed to feel this way, but I find her sympathetic and I wonder how the story will wrap up where's she's concerned. I believe that she really loves Rose's father and I think you can see a real contrast between her and the other bad demons - she's not quite as power hungry. I wonder if the last book will give us a twist.

Rose and Christian's relationship is working a lot better for me in Blood of a Red Rose. Now that they're basically living together their relationship has a lot more complexity besides the "let's make out" of Scent of a White Rose. They have real conversations and real problems. It made them a lot more interesting to read and a lot easier to root for.

The Bad...

Although I do like Rose, Christian, Jeremy, Evie, etc - they are starting to feel a bit flat. I mean is anyone really so good? I like the complexity of Meredith and wish that they had a similar complexity. I still like them, they just could be more interesting.

Rose is stubbornly keeping secrets and I'm a little annoyed by it - even if I know it's important to the story.

Paranormal, pagan, coming-of-age erotic fantasy

What did you like best about Horned Hunter of the Night? What did you like least?

I liked that the story had a tidy beginning and end and tried to expose the listener to an alternative belief system. I did not like the way in which pagan tradition was dealt with in such a slap-dash manner and was combined with an overwhelmingly explicit erotic overtone.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story would have been more enjoyable to me as a longer treatment of the characters and traditions. It would have been interesting to see the protagonist dealing with her roommate and family after her initiation and to see how that would affect her life. Also some members of her coven would likely have expressed at least some displeasure at her very fast advancement within the group. Then, beyond that, she would also need to deal with some consequences of her meddling with others' lives through magic.

Did Kay Nazarchyk do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The narration was OK and easy to understand but needed work on characterization and inflection. There wasn't much variation between character voices.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe. Paranormal fantasies targeted towards college age women aren't my normal wheelhouse. Also, this story is straight up explicit erotica, so any movie based on this would tend towards the X-rated category.

It had just the right amount of eroticism and spirituality. The story was interesting and moved at a good pace.

Too Short

I honestly do NOT understand why an author would write a story that is so short. I enjoy the story line with the earth slowly dying and there being different breeds on the earth, it's quite interesting.

This is a new story line and I felt like it needed to be more in depth, giving more back ground as to how Earth got to the point of nearly dying.

The characters a done well, but there does need to be more depth in their development as well.

I hope the author expounds more on future books.

Satha rocks!

I felt very close to all the characters in this book, and there were a lot of them. Nobody was truly good, and nobody was completely bad...OK, there were ONE or two really bad ones, but I won't spoil.

Satha is awesome. A quick study of complex situations, fearless, practical, realistic, loyal, beautiful. (I agree with the reviewer who thought the cover art of her is gorgeous, too.) I would not have prevailed if I had been in her shoes. Loic was more difficult to get a handle on. His growth had me guessing the whole time - none of the outcome for his story was predictable. I like that.

The most moving passages were about the parent/child relationships. Loic and his father, especially.

The world was so real to me. I spent a warm sunny afternoon reading in my backyard, but felt the intense cold, saw the sandstorms and imagined the legion of spirits Loic battled the whole time.

I see the ending as realistic one in a fantasy world, but still hopeful. It made sense, at least as much sense as human history does. I would recommend this to my friends.

Fantastic tale of spiritual warfare in a culture trapped in darkness

This type of book is the reason I keep trolling Indie titles despite most of them being rather disappointing. Diamonds in the rough are out there, and finding a brilliant work like this in the sea of Indie wannabes really makes it worth the effort finding them.

This is a fantastic bit of world and culture building. An immersive setting and unique characters flesh out what ultimately is a tale of spiritual warfare viewed from within the bounds of a culture trapped in darkness. This is really an innovative perspective, and I am talking Screwtape Letters type of mind-shift here. Having served as a missionary for many years, the reality of confused ideas, blended understanding, and shifted perspective presented here is simultaneously rare and fresh in literature but also a realistic and vibrant look at reality.

Is this a "perfect" book? No, but honestly I am not sure I have ever read a "perfect" book, and certainly have never written one, but this one really hits on many levels to elevate it to an easily recommendable and thoroughly enjoyable read.

Romance, fantasy, a bit of history

Where to start with reviewing this book... I picked it up (and requested it in part) because it looked a bit like Eireland, which I enjoyed so much earlier in the year. I wasn't feeling all too excited about my other reading options, so this was it.

The beginning is a little slow, but once things get started there's lots of action. The characters are endearing, and I could really feel where things were going with Beth and feel Nick's frustration and worry.

The ending was brilliant. Loved it. The only thing I would have liked to see more of would have been if I could see the life as an epilogue.

The Gaelic and lack of translations (which would have been nice at the end of the book) would have been good to have. I don't know enough about it to comment on the accuracy.

Romance, fantasy, a bit of history - things I'm really enjoying at the moment and want more of and they're all here in this nice book. Tick from me.

I'd say it was suitable for adults and teens alike. There are some references to sex, and some other adult themes (such as the deaths of the clan members), but I feel that those are quite minor points that don't detract from the readability of the novel.

I've given this novel 4 stars, simply because despite being interested in the story, I did pick it up to read, and then put it back down again due to the slow beginning. Other than that, it's really good and warms up to the task of entertaining. I would even consider purchasing a hard copy of it.

Miss Lee has a nice writing style

Miss Lee has a nice writing style, and a good concept for the story.

I appreciated the first half of the story more than the second half.

When Nick gets tranported back in time to Glencoe, he adapts well. But when Beth comes forward in time, she is like a child. I understand that things would be confusing and different. But for Nick to have to teach her to read and use money or credit cards, it just made me feel as if the woman was now infantile and unable to care for herself.

I gave the book 3 stars for that reason. It seemed to me that it was abit degrading to women

A page turner!

It is strange that I put off reading this book in favor of others in my stack for so long.
