Fear is a daily battle—and for most of us, a familiar one. With 365 “fear nots” in the Bible, it’s as if God knew we would need a fresh reminder every single day. But Scripture also teaches that faith, not fear, is the mark of a heart close to God.
In this devotion, Amanda Idleman invites us to view fear not as something natural to accept, but as something unnatural to fight—with faith. We are encouraged to actively imagine what God can do: to see in our minds His healing, provision, and restoration, rather than letting anxiety dominate our thoughts.
When Jesus said to Jairus, “Do not fear, only believe,” He was addressing not just the crisis at hand but the spiritual mindset we are called to embrace. Our fears lose their grip when we meditate on God’s presence and trust His power over our lives.
“Fear typically grows in the recesses of our imaginations. But faith grows when we imagine God coming through.”
🙏 Your Nightly Prayer
Father,
You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. Replace our fear with bold, grounded faith. Help us use our thoughts to reflect on Your goodness, not the worst that could happen. Let our belief in Your presence and power give us peace and courage—even when life feels uncertain. Thank You for never leaving us.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
🧠 Three Things to Meditate Upon
Remember His Faithfulness
Think back on a time when God provided, comforted, or answered your prayers. Write it down. Let that reminder feed your faith.
Imagine God Showing Up for You
Picture God intervening in your situation—restoring, healing, or opening a door. How would you praise Him in response?
Consider the Power of God
When you compare your fear to God’s might, which one deserves more of your attention?
“Fear fades in the presence of faith. Let faith be your imagination's guiding light.”
