Unique and Captivating Story

My Summary: Chloe is an Asher, a powerful being that receives a special ability on the day she turns eighteen. However, she lives in a society that is dominated by fearâone that is ruled by a cruel and evil religious group that follows the Greek gods. Everything revolves around pushing Greek mythology as the truth and enforcing the idea that the citizens are to obey without question and to report anything or anyone out of the ordinary. But what if there is more to the story? What if this dystopian government has gone out of its way to hide the existence of the one God who could free them all?

My Review: Uhh, I have a problemâone where when a book is really good, I hesitate to finish it. Itâs an instinctual act of preservation, Iâm guessing, that started with things like food and other necessities that has apparently spilled over into my recreational activities. I catch myself avoiding the end of a series on Netflix when I know itâs been canceled and there wonât be any more waiting for me when Iâm done. If I donât see the ending, I wonât have to admit that itâs over. That is why Age of the Ashers took me so long to finish.

Age of the Ashers is a rare gem I donât find every day when offered a book for review. It has it all and then some. The plot is unique, there is rich backstory, the authorâs voice is elegant and easy to follow. There is fear, control, betrayal, sacrifice, but there is also redemption, spirituality, hope, love, faith . . .

The author makes faith such a crucial necessity in this story. I felt I was reading more than just a book with interesting characters and a well-thought-out plot. I felt like I was reading an invaluable message woven into a uniquely captivating story. And sometimes, we need little messages like that to help us find our way againâto remind us of what itâs like to stand against the giants in the name of something even greater, to give it all for a cause thatâs bigger than ourselves.

I hope Iâll have time to read the sequels.

Another great novel from SA McClure

I really enjoyed the story and thought it was a great follow on to go along with Keepers of the Light. Kilian was my favorite character and I'm glad he got a back story.

Michael Troughton's narration was fantastic. I especially enjoyed his portrayal of Bluebeard.

All in all, an enjoyable listen.

An amazing audiobook

After purchasing this audiobook I researched the original myth about Lilith, which was unknown to me before, and I found it totally fascinating how the author used it to create a new, modern and awesome story about her. I would highly recommend it to all the sci-fi and fantasy book lovers because it is very well written with nicely developed characters and an intriguing plot. I listened this audiobook in one breath until the early hours and I especially enjoyed the performance of the narrator. Ivars Ozors, the author, put a lot of heart into this book and I loved it very much. 5 star rating from me!

The Like able Unlikely Heroes

Would you listen to The Novices again? Why?

I've listen to it at least twice - it was so quirky and I thought I missed something from laughing so hard at times, and reminiscing about previous scenes at other times!

What did you like best about this story?

I LOVED how these novices were true novices. They weren't destined to save the world. They didn't come into hidden powers. They didn't emerge as heroics, able bodied or mentally articulate gods by the end of the story. Too many authors fall into the cookie cutter 'average Joe' who turned into an immaculate, handsome, savvy character before the quest ends. These characters are incompetent with a finesse and use little to common sense or logic, wich made them endearing and clearly stamps this book in my fave top 10%

Have you listened to any of Travis Baldrees other performances before? How does this one compare?

I am not familiar with Travis Baldree. But I have added several of the books he has narrated to my Wish List. He did an excellent job with this book and I'm looking forward to him reading to me again!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This book moved me to laughter many times over. The Novices was a comic relief that liberated the stress of a work day and kept me company as I cleaned the house. I went out and bought speakers to add to my amusement and entertainment!

Any additional comments?

Anyone who wants a fun adventure with deep characters who have dense and simpleton thoughts would enjoy this. Dragons were real dragons. No one is trying to train, ride, or shift into them. The characters don't make the best decisions. Heck, they don't even make good decisions! They fly -or run - by the seat of their pants, without thinking ahead five minutes. Each stay true to character and don't strive to be more. They are who they are - and they're adorable! Think about those sweet kids who you just smile and shake your heads at, because they try to make or do something, but alway come up a deck short ...

Exciting Adventure!

Want to go on an epic journey with some fantastic characters? Check out the Harmonic Magic series by P. E. Padilla! His intelligent writing style puts you right in the middle of the action and the story moves at an excellent pace. It's a page turner filled with exciting adventures (even battles with monsters), humor, martial arts, and magic. Fun stuff!!

I just finished this book, the 2nd in the series, and can't wait for the next one! I found it hard to put down. It's a well-written fantasy tale, full of action and adventure. It has an interesting plot with lots of twists and turns, well-developed engaging characters, a detailed fleshed-out world, and a unique believable system of "magic" underlying it all. I really enjoyed it, and look forward to the next installment. PE Padilla's writing is right up there with some of my other favorite fantasy authors, Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson.

This is the 4th book of a really fun and entertaining series. I have really enjoyed every book so far. The narrator is great and the story just picks up where the last one left off, which I really like in a fantasy series. I will definitely look out for the next book in the series.

4th installment in an amazing fantasy series

2 half orc brothers face destiny, betrayal, gods, avatars, each other, their loved ones and more. The tale twists and turns through choices right and wrong. Love and forgiveness or hatred and bitterness. Both are chosen are either right for the one who chose. War takes the land and remakes it in fire and blood. A dying goddess rents the fabric of reality to provide balance. And a brother faces a brother. Great series. Highly recommend. An Awesome Listen

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. When I had the opportunity to listen to this book, I stopped the book I was playing and started it right away. The characters and the plot are continually changing, adding to the suspense of the story. It is worth listening too. This series will be added to my favourites list.

Brilliant!

So, at the end of the story so far, I find myself relieved that the main plotlines have been tied up nicely, and the questions left unanswered are leaving the series open to continue. This is solid urban fantasy, combined with multi-pantheon mythology, combined with science fiction. While that may sound like a strange mashup, Lange has managed to throw it all together in a BELIEVABLE modern day setting! New Orleans has always been home to strange happenings, so it's a great setting for the majority of this series. Very well done, by the author and narrator.

A Sublime Imaginative Creation

A novel priceless in every respect - and in this edition, an absolute treasure. Burroughs and Krenkel capture every nuance of sublime adventure writing and illustration! An escape from the repetitiveness of present society, where ideals have been submerged in mediocrity and success is measured in advancing the personality and possession of what are mistakenly called "goods". Pellucidar is a pristine world fulfilling every archetypal need of the psyche - providing the same satisfaction as found in the best of Greek Mythology - such illusions comforting the reader in the seclusion of private, thoughtful moments. The reader falls into the story as the pages are turned, haunted by the images provided by Burroughs, flavored by the art of Krenkel. These artists have achieved an ideal by creating a completely imagined world without reference to observable phenomena, but rather a world remade in the images of the purposeful humanity of meaning rather than the meaninglessness created by the processes of impersonal chance as found in the observable world. Here, humans are individuals. In Pellucidar - plants, animals are all forms of life have a permanence, rather than transitory state of "quasi- static" chemical systems. Good inner earth sci fi by master ERB

45 years ago in Jr High School I read At The Earth's Core by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I loved it and the book helped me develop a life long love of reading. I also have read all his John Carter of Mars series... 5 stars... see my reviews.

In 1917 the world was in trouble with one more year of WW1 to go and millions dieing of the flu epidemic. ERB creator of Tarzan of the Apes wanted to entertain people and allow them to escape some of their daily problems. He became a master writer and wrote The John Carter of Mars series, a Tarzan series, an inner world Pellucidar series and a Venus series and more!

At The Earth's Core is the beginning of the inner world Pellucidar series introducing the main character David Innes. David Innes and an older man named Perry, an inventor of a gigantic metal Earth borer machine, test the huge machine boring into the earth. The controls jam and they are transported well over 500 miles deep into the Earth.
