    Publisher's Summary:
    Livia Serafini must die.
To the church, she is a heretic, tried in absentia and sentenced to burn. To her brother, Carlo, she stands as a threat to his corrupt rule and a symbol of resistance. To her new "allies" in the East, she is a pawn to be played and sacrificed as they see fit. They don't hear the whispers that follow her in the streets: whispers of hope and the name of a long-dead saint. When Livia rises up to fight, she will not rise alone.
Across the ocean, Felix struggles for control of his family's fate against the crime lord Basilio Grimaldi. Basilio is wealthy, ruthless, and the master of 100 killers. All Felix has are his wits and his courage. It won't be enough. To break free and to save the lives of everyone he loves, he'll have to face the darkness that followed him home from Winter's Reach.
And as the owl's horrific vengeance unfolds, her coven teeters on the brink of civil war. All the dominoes are in place now, lined up from the frozen north to the swamps and ruins of a dead empire, and set to tumble at one man's command. When they do, a world will fall with them.

The tides are changing, the dangers are shifting.
What made the experience of listening to The Instruments of Control the most enjoyable?
Susannah's voice coupled with Craig's descriptions gives us, and Susannah the narrator, the clear direction of what emotion is felt by each character. Craig has the right format and amount of description to emphasis the story and draw the scenes around for us.
Death, lies, backstabbing, it's all here! I'm drawn in with Craig's masterful imagery with words. The world and the characters past are used to highlight the characters now, then, and the world we are currently in. All are touched on in few words yet drawing a huge picture.
I love how the tides change and the dangers turn from person to person. Craig is skillful in crafting the schemes that the characters create and how they turn to bring death to the doorstep and threats from others. Where we saw the characters in the beginning is not where the characters are in the end. They have evolved in the events happening around and to them.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Instruments of Control?
We lose some characters in this book, which can be expected. However! It's the manner of which they die. Some are unexpected and by the hand of those we wouldn't have expected. I love it!
We get to see the witches at work here. Their way of things start to be divulged to us. Interesting as they are hiding something too! And what we experienced in Winter's Reach is starting to be explained here. Oh what the world has to offer. The witches are more important than we saw in Winter's Reach. They start to come out in this book with the events that happen and lead them to where they are, for revenge, self defense, and accidental usage.
Which character as performed by Susannah Jones was your favorite?
I don't have one favorite character by Susannah.
I am thrilled to say Susannah is back with the second book. I enjoyed her voice and reading in Winter's Reach, and continue to do the same here. I really enjoyed the voice and attitude Susannah added to each character as she narrated the story. The voice differences are slight but you know the difference and who is who.

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Epic
    Publisher's Summary:
Getting caught between a local crime boss and a galactic syndicate makes you nostalgic for the rock and the hard place.
Carl Ramsey has a heist to run and the crew to pull it off. All he's missing is a specialized computer and the tech to run it. But when an unrelated robbery loses him both, the prospects for a successful job look grim. Unfortunately the one who hired them won't take excuses, and the owners of the computer come looking for their stolen gear. Caught between a local crime lord and thugs from a galaxy-spanning syndicate, Carl needs to come up with a plan that doesn't get them all killed.
His assets: his retired marine ex-wife, a drunkard mechanic, a feline security chief, and an old family friend who happens to be a wizard. His liabilities: a missing computer, a hospitalized tech, two ruthless criminal organizations looking for answers, and about two hours to sort it all out.
"Tech, Lies, and Wizardry" is the free short story prequel to Black Ocean, a science fiction fantasy series set in the 26th century. Do you wish there had been a second season of Firefly? Do you love the irreverent fun of Guardians of the Galaxy? Have you ever wondered how Star Wars would have turned out if Luke and Obi-wan had ditched the rebellion to become smugglers with Han and Chewie? Then Black Ocean is the series for you!
    Members Reviews:
good prequel, but hard to get into
Would you try another book from J. S. Morin and/or Mikael Naramore?
probably not. I didn't care the for the story and the magic and sci fi was strange
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tech, Lies, and Wizardry?
the use of magic was interesting and how it interacted with technology
How did the narrator detract from the book?
the only detraction was there wasn't enough distinction from the female characters... they all sounded the same and so did some of the male characters.
Could you see Tech, Lies, and Wizardry being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    no
    Any additional comments?
didn't care for the foul language either
    Short, but to the point
What did you love best about Tech, Lies, and Wizardry?
I liked the feel of the world. It is pulling the worlds of Sci-Fi and Fantasy together a bit more, almost like Dresden files in space. Only... there is a bit more space feel that magic feel... well.. in this short story anyway.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I could only have asked for more.
What does Mikael Naramore bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Easy to listen to vocals and does a good job distinguishing character voices.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Maybe just the title.. it captures it all right there..
    Any additional comments?
Good fun.. and VERY quick listen.

so good! such fun! much animal!
freat narrator, fun story, fans of the redwall series who are all grown up now taje notice!
    Buy it
I have been reading audiobooks for more than 20 years This is the first book that I reread five times in less than a month. Red wall meets the magnificent seven. Just buy it. You'll be happy that you did.
    A gem
Have you listened to any of Corey Gagnes other performances before? How does this one compare?
I had not heard this narrator before, but he did a superb job in giving each character a distinct voice that brought them to life in my mind.
    Any additional comments?
This book is a pleasure, and my favorite book of the year. I was smiling the whole trip.
In terms of plot, you will not find anything new here. Troubleshooters of old monarchy get the band back together to take vengeance on the crew who deposed them. There are no real surprises there.
The delight comes from the prose. The sentences are almost fairy tale like in the playful way they handle language or even speak to the reader. There is good description, and a full story don't get me wrong, but the writing style is intended to be amusing and clever. Let me give you two examples:
"She was pretty, for a guinea pig, if you didn't mind them heavy. If you did mind them heavy, you pro probably wouldn't go for a guinea pig."
"Drunk as they were, they'd have cheered for the moon to make war with the stars, and offered odds on the result."
Bare in mind though this isn't a fairy tale, and it is quite violent. While not wallowing in graphic descriptions, there is no shyness in describing the results of gunfire. This is not a book for children.
Secondly "The Builders" has great characters. Not in terms of depth but by way of color and distinctness. I could see and hear each each individually. Sometimes when the narrative is in one character's head, it is shaped quite well by their personality, and that brings the lovely sentences to the realm of characters. Also, the author uses animal aspects nicely, as it seems so fundamental to the characters, their personalities, and their abilities. Were this story about humans it would be three times duller, but I am certain the author could still well succeed.
I could happily read a dozen books in this style, in this world. With there only being one, I hope that you will at least read this one.
    Animal gunshow
The plot is straight, the characters somewhat thin, the prose is okay. It's a bit of western, bit of a team builder, all with anthropomorphic animals fitting into their role a but too well. There were a few points that the prose felt like too much word play but I suppose it comes with the characters. It picks up near the second half when the more action oriented scenes come up. The narrator does give each character a bit of a different spin and his non dialogue narration is excellent.

    Best in the series
I started this series to here Brian Nishii narrate somthing orher than "The Story of Sushi" which I liked his performance in. The first book in the series was a bit cliché on some levels and the short story setup was good for my hour rides to work but bad for story development. Still I liked it for the Japanese themes and interesting main character. The second book seemed a bit like the author had stepped out of his element by making one whole book that stuck with one story. The repeat of one of the short stories from the first book as the opening chapter kinda felt like cheating but I did like the second book more than the first. This book was fantastic, Richard Parks writing is sharper than ever. Plot twists can be seen but played out with with suspense. The visuals more vivid. The characters more dear. While I did like the other books in the series this one will stick with me alot longer.

The fever struck hard and fast, rising out of the slums and claiming victim after victim. At first, reports trickled across the wire in small segments relegated to the final seconds of the broadcast news. Lost among stories of failing economies and political bickering, few noticed what proved to be the birth pangs of a monster. Within months, the disease dominated the news as thousands died and infection rates soared.
William Hill knew his chances of avoiding the virus sat squarely between slim and none. With experts predicting a global pandemic, his choices boiled down to not if, but where he would die. While the rest of the world built barricades and set up distribution points for food, he chose a simpler end. The island had been one of the last and best times with his father. He couldn't think of a better place to spend his final days.
He wanted sun and sand, fresh fish on the grill, and cool nights by the campfire. He wanted feel-good days filled with oldies on the radio, days when he could hoist the sails and run before the wind. He didn't set out to make enemies, but he did. He didn't plan on becoming humanity's last hope for survival, or watching over an old woman and an eerie little boy, either.
To William Hill, the island seemed as good a place as any to die.
He just didn't realize how good.

Interesting story line. Characters need to have more fleshing out to be realistic and memorable. Too many mundane and boring scenes and conversations. Overall, writing is mediocre and editing is poor.

    Slown & Drawn Out
The narrator read too quickly. It was hard to get into a good rhythm. The plot was drawn out. most of the book took place inside the guild centered around the rescue of Wynn. It's a drug out cash cow that I've invested a lot of time in so now I am doomed to continue reading until I've finished it. This entire book could have been consolidated into 2 good chapters....
    Deceitful neglectful sequencing
I love the story. How disappointing it is that there is no indication in description on position of this book in overall sequence... I got the book and only then I realised that it is not next in sequence to the book I was reading
, as I was led to understand, but about 6 books apart...
