    A good fun read
While not the longest book taking place in the forgotten realms, there is allot picked into this gem, many of the characters are relatable without having to go too deep into the back story, and its fun to red about a psion, one of my fav classes from the game that I feel is not appreciated enough
    "Snake in the hole!"
Venom's Taste deals with a neglected part of the Realms: the Vilhon Reach and specifically the city of Hlondeth (located southwest of the Sea of Fallen Stars).
The book sheds light on Arvin, a rogue/psion, and his efforts at preventing the enslavement of the city's human population who are being used as pawns in the ruling yuan-ti political schemes. In the process he will realize that saving himself might be more than he can handle let alone saving the general population...
The book starts off incredibly well, immediately catching the reader's interest and attention. The plot as a whole is excellent! The book is so incredibly well written and presented that the reader feels that they have been transported to another plane of existence and are actually present among the characters, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel, sensing what they sense.
Lisa Smedman has done a FANTASTIC job of acquiring and presenting, efficiently and successfully, essential knowledge relevant to Faerun, including customs, religion and the history of the peoples of Toril. Her solid grasp of factual detail makes her capable of providing the necessary background needed to carry out the difficult task of writing Forgotten Realms novels, which is something often missing from the work of many Fantasy authors.

    Fun Stuff!!!
Mr. Niles certainly does a good job of making me hate the villains in this story. I kept waiting for the "bad guys" to "get theirs". And they did. The climactic battle was fantastically written. Thanks for another enjoyable story. Looking forward to the conclusion!
    Great Book
Great story for my collection of the Forgotten Realms.
    yes.. bad!
It's just as bad as the first book. The child skewering occurs in almost the same place (pagewise) as in the first book to show you that the good guys are actually quite bad. But never fear. They are actually the good guys because the bad guys enjoy and acknowledge their evil deeds. Confusing? This is the second book in a trilogy and trust me. Save your money and time. There are plenty of good Forgotten Realms novels out there. Don't go for this historical rip-off that can't clearly define who the bad and good guys are. They're all bad. So is the trilogy.
    Total Destruction!
Heroes flee from the waves of catastrophe sweeping Maztica and try to escape from enemies on all sides.
The God of War feasts upon chaos!

    Not Very Engaging
Is there anything you would change about this book?
My bad for not knowing right away that this book took place pretty much during the events in book 2. While Arilyn is a nice character she and both Danilo seem to suffer when not together. I couldn't really get into the story. Who cares about some elves in the woods with humans encroaching? The bit about her sword was nice but more of a side story.
Has Silver Shadows turned you off from other books in this genre?
I still like Elaine Cunningham as a writer but this book didn't help the cause. Really, not much happened.
Which character as performed by Eric Michael Summerer was your favorite?
Eric Michael Summerer does Danilo the best. Really, a nice job with all the characters but Danilo sounds epic.
Could you see Silver Shadows being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    Not made for t.v.
    Any additional comments?
I'm going through all five books in the series and so far this is the worst one. I am not sure how it ties in (if at all). But, I would recommend skipping this if you can. Very little to do with book 2 and book 4 is a stand alone.

    Beloved Characters
An enjoyable story from cover to cover. Witty banter, exciting battle sequences, and a classic dungeon crawl feel. Mark Anthony is very good at what he does.
I particularly liked the characterization of Halaster
An enjoyable romp into Undermountain.Interesting characters, I particularly liked the characterization of Halaster, good plot, a bit of intrigue on the part of scheming nobles. A well rounded adventure novel set in my favourite world.
    Wonderful!!
Dungeons and Dragons At It's Finest!!
    Good solid story
Personally, I thought that this was a good story. Granted, some parts were hard to follow and the kindle edition had a few spelling errors, yet it was still a great read and very interesting to learn more about Undermountain and Waterdeep.
    Better than most
This was a rather pleasant if not predictable outcome. The dungeon in this book was rather unique and had some really cool aspects of another multiverse.

Not bad, not great, but not bad.
This was a quick easy read, and I enjoyed it for that. I can't give it a 4 or 5. Not sure who did the proofreading, there are a lot of errors. In addition, I'm not sure the author did any in-depth study on Loviatar (not that there is much on the Goddess of Pain). Despite the shortcomings I encountered in this book, I still enjoyed it, and would recommend it. There are few books about the lesser to intermediate deities of Faerun, so this will do.
    Not bad
I am not sure if it was the copy I downloaded or if all of the books were like that, but, whoever proofed the book missed some duplications of sentences, and in one spot a whole page might have been missing. It is hard to tell but it sure jumped a whole lot. After the first few chapters, it settled down and was a good read.
    Fantastic!
First, an unbelievable fact. This is the FIRST novel by Kameron Franklin. If it wasn't written on the cover, I would never have guessed. Surely the best first novel by any author ever to explore the fascinating realms of Faerun. I hope Franklin will be given more space by the Wizards to claim his rightful place alongside Bob Salvatore and Paul S. Kemp as a FR great.
Now, more on the novel. It is a story about Ythnel, a young cleric of Loviatar from Thay sent to tutor a girl in Luthcheq, a city-state ruled by mad Karanok dynasty. She gets falsely accused of being a wizard (which is punishable by death in Luthechq), and a beautiful story about prejudice, revenge and devotion starts.
The story, and the way it's told is simply brilliant. I have nothing more to say on that matter. The main character is an unorthodox protagonist, and the villains (the whole Karanok family, plus one or two other characters) are well described and believable. The supporting characters are a bit crude, and fall a bit short from the overall quality of the book, but it doesn't make them bad but average. What this book has, and most of the others don't have, however, are those little details that separate a good book from a great book. The novel gives an excellent insight in clergy of Loviatar, making them more than leather bound S-M dominatrixes, as they were often described earlier. I love books where it is not so easy to distinguish good and evil, and that is unfortunately a rare thing in FR novels.
There is not much bad to say about this book, except maybe the unnecessary connection between one of Thay's Zulkirs and the events in this book. But again, maybe it is just a little sneak-peak into things to come. I hope it is.
This is a must-read. Alongside "Road of the Patriarch" and Erevis Cale trilogy, maybe the best book to come out of Wizards publishing in the last couple of years.
    Bravo.
    Good first Novel
    I loved this book.

    An Okay story
What did you like best about Knights of the Crown? What did you like least?
It seemed like Roland Green was trying to create an interesting story with quick action but it didn't seem to really work out very well. Not sure if it was the audio editing/narration/or writing but I found that I lost track several times when the story was switching back and forth between separate groups of characters. The characters themselves were fairly interesting maybe not real polished. I felt like this kind of story should've been right up my alley but I ended up losing interest several times. Plus the fact that they keep bringing dragons back from their gods imposed banishment is over used in dragonlance novels.
Would you recommend Knights of the Crown to your friends? Why or why not?
I would only recommend this if you were just trying to read all the dragonlance novels through like myself.
What does Zach Villa bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Zach does a pretty good job - he has a nice range of voices although he seemed to read a little fast for my preference, it felt a little rushed, but that could be because the story was a little hard to follow without obvious transitions between characters.
One of the best Dragonlance novels
Humorous, exciting, and interesting. Not quite epic, though. Best book in the series since the Legend of Huma.

    An amazing journey...
While at a store scanning over a variety of books, I glanced at the cover of Stardeep and opened it and read the foreward. I was intrigued and just felt like taking a leap on a new read that I knew really nothing about. I went into Forgotten Realms with Stardeep, and approached it with a clean slate and with no pre-existing expectations. I listen to music the same way, even with my favorite artists, allowing myself to go into each new work as if each is a journey all it's own.
The writing in this book at first took me by surprise, as I began to build my vocabulary via a fantasy sci-fi style book, something I also didn't expect. I immediately was drawn more to the book as it really made me feel like the author had fully invested himself into the work and into the world in which he was forming before the turning pages. The more I read, the more I wanted to read, and didn't want to put it down. The characters are all so very interesting... Kiril, Raidon, Gage, Adrik (such a inquisitive delicate soul), and also Delphe and Telarian. I loved the way they travel along, and how the roads of each start to merge within the book, and how the story and mystery is slowly revealed. I also enjoyed the care taken in the heart and soul of those characters within, and the detail that really enriched the entire book.
I especially enjoyed, being a person of faith myself, the aspects of the book that shine a light on what might be beyond the whole journey that makes it all worth fighting for. It was subtly and tastefully added, and my favorite reads are those that do just that, touching on the spirit of something more, something beyond us. A great author I think has that ability, to allow another to apply their own imagery and belief into the delicately set writings there within.
I'm not sure if the authors read the reviews at such sites, but I want to say 'thanks a billion' for such an awesome book, for expanding and doing something new in the merging of genres, and for a most magnificent journey! ~ Blessings
    One of my favorite books
I am an avid reader, and this is one of my favorite books. Not just in Forgotten Realms either. The tone is fairly dark and the premise vary compelling. You can hear a synopsis in other reviews so I won't go into that, but I think this book deserves more positive reviews. I wouldn't read the other reviews if I were you, as they tell the whole book while trashing it at the same time. I have read this book several times and I am sure I'll read it a again. Give it a chance...
Rather dull slog, never meets its potential
At the outset, this book has a lot of potential.

    Scott Ciencin: The Night Parade
I am reading this book right now and find it hard to put it down.
I really enjoy it and will read more of this author.
Do him a great honor and read and review his works
RIP Scott Ciencin. I'm thoroughly enjoying the horror feel scott is so apt at conveying in this novel. He's the Shandower of our realms, bringer of light with his mystical gauntlet. When I read the last page of chapter sixteen, I got goosebumps. Shandower is told he is going to pass on, due to a blood clot in his brain... Unfortunately that is how Ciencin left us... Do him a great honor and read and review his works. Keep his legacy alive.
Easily one of the best of the Harpers Series!
Scott Ciencin has created a very dynamic plot here. By the time you reach the end of this story you discover how many of the character's backgrounds and stories are intertwined with each other's. Very few characters stand alone in this novel, they all have a strong dynamic relation to another person or persons in the story. What's more, Ciencin is not afraid to have a few of them die in the story. Rather than disappointing the reader though, this gets the reader to believe in the characters' mortality. These are not all powerful heroes who can just hack and blast their way through challenges. These are real people who could die on the next page. With the exception of one character in particular, but I won't ruin it by telling you. I agree with a previous reviewer, that character had unbelievable luck - being saved by a group of wandering adventurers with healing potions. Scott also uses a new brand of evil monsters - the Night Parade - who are both horrifying (in a Lovecraft kind of fashion) and devious. I am going to search for the rest of Scott Ciencin novels, even though I usually only read Forgotten Realms when I read from the fantasy genre. This was a great contribution to the Harper series.
    Intriguing and original, if gory
This is a most unusual Realms book. It's a kind of cross between fantasy and horror, but not the gothic horror of the Ravenloft books. Rather, it's like what would result if Lovecraft, King, or Barker wrote a Realms story. No orcs here! The monsters of the Night Parade are disgusting, twisted blobs of flesh with tentacles and sharp teeth, and insect-like humanoids, who feed on human beings and dwell in the shadows. The characters are well-constructed, though Ciencin seems to take a bit too much delight in killing several of them off horribly! My advice is not to get too attached to them, because a few don't last very long! Some scenes are quite gory and repulsively descriptive, but that helps set the goulish mood that is supposed to be there. And the ending is genuinely touching, like waking up from a bad dream.

    Members Reviews:
    Almost there
This novel is the third installment in, so far very good, Citadels series. It is also the second novel by James P. Davis, afterBloodwalk (Forgotten Realms: The Wizards)which didnt appeal to wider audience, but i found very nice nevertheless. There is also a very strong short story by Davis inRealms of the Dragons II: A Forgotten Realms Anthologyif you want to check it out.
"Shield" is basically a story about an exiled Rashemi, an old citadel and a legend surrounding it. The atmosphere and the richness of lore are the strongest points of this book. Davis can really build up a dark and heavy atmosphere and keep it up throughout the novel. Makes the book feel more cohesive and even more intense.
Plot of the book is also very strong and well thought out. It has it's roots in a legend about the citadel, but where many similar novels just keep it as a beggining of the story, Shield keeps reminding the reader of the legend, and unravels it slowly through the plot. Nice indeed.
Characters are also interesting and while not very detailed aside from Bastun the main character, still solid and beleivable. To touch on Bastun a little. While being one of the most likable "heroes" (probably because not being a real hero) i read about in Realms novels, i would have really liked to read more about his history and training in the order of Vremyonni. We could say that his character is well defined, but his background not so much.
The biggest flaw of this novel, in my opinion, is that author goes into descriptive tirades at a number of occasions. Or to put it more simply, i felt this book was in dire need of some dialogue. It was description after description, introspection after introspection. Dragged it around a great bit for me.
All in all, a very good novel like previous ones in Citadels. Check them all out.
A decent story, with some flaws
The Shield of Weeping Ghosts by James P. Davis is the third novel in a series of stand alone novels called The Citadels. The other novels in the series are;Neversfall: The Citadelsby Ed Gentry,Obsidian Ridge: The Citadelsby Jess Lebow, andSentinelspire (The Citadels)by Mark Sehestedt (July, 2008). The Citadel series focuses of citadels and tells their story in unique and interesting ways. These novels are much like the other series of stand alone novels that have been previously released, such as the Rogues, the Clerics, the Wizards, and the Fighters. Incidentally, Mr. Davis also had a novel in the Wizards series; Bloodwalk.
The plot of this book is actually rather difficult to describe. Being that this is a book in the Citadels series there is certainly a story being the citadel in question. However, as I was reading this novel, and upon completing it, I was left more confused that satisfied with how the actual plot was laid out.

    The story was great
The story was an outstanding read. The narrator has a good voice but used pauses and inflections that were irritating. We managed to ignore the voice inflections and pauses and just listened to the words
A well written, and well told action-fantasy.
What made the experience of listening to The Royal Dragoneers the most enjoyable?
The story was great. A village boy and some others turn into dragon riders to save a land from a troll who is trying to poison them.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Royal Dragoneers?
When the young dragon Jade gets chastised and then takes off on his own. I was scared for that juvenile wyrm, more than I'd like to admit.
Have you listened to any of Christine Padovans other performances before? How does this one compare?
I heard her read Mathias' Crimson and Clover on youtube.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. Each chapter ends in a way that compels you to keep going.
    Any additional comments?
This is the second M. R. Mathias audio book I have listened to. In both the narrators use voices for the characters. This is okay but distracting at times. It also lends to the drama and anticipation at times too. Mathias' stories are somehow traditional fantasy yet told in a very refreshing way. I hope all four of his fantasy series make it to audio format.
can't wait to hear the next one. Good book.
Great what's next?......?????? just getting started. exciting and fun and I will be back. thanks.
    Wonderful story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I enjoyed the story very much.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I found the narrator's reading style annoying to listen to. She read in strange surge-like phrases that were distracting.
