    Great story, good pace!
The narrating got better as the book went on, and it's well-paced. I find some of the resolutions a little too pat and dry. And the character really does seem a bit too perfect, but eh it's a good story!
    Amazing
Starts out a little slow but once it gets going it is hard to put down. Fast paced, rich with detail, and the characters keep you guessing.
    Good read
Likable characters flows smoothly. I'm looking forward to future books in the series. Very enjoyable.
Epic and amazing! This series never stops moving!
Save a weekend cuz you won't be able to put this down. Rathbone's humor and imagination are boundless. This series is like an Indiana Jones movie..magic, adventure and DRAGONS portrayed in a new light. Love love love them!
    Terrible
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This is the worst book I've listened to yet. Have no idea how it ever got published - don't waste your time or credit. Absolutely terrible in every way possible!

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Epic
    Publisher's Summary:
John Norman's epic Gorean Saga is one of the longest-running and most successful series in the history of fantasy. It is also one of the most controversial. Over the course of more than 30 books produced over a span of six decades, the series has sold millions of copies and built legions of fans unrivaled in their devotion. Rediscover this brilliantly imagined world where men are masters and women live to serve their every desire. In Vagabonds of Gor, book 24 of the Gorean Saga, Cabot, and his friend, Marcus, of Ar's Station, who have been spying for Ar in the Cosian encampments, now seek the long-inert forces of Ar, to report acquired intelligence to their commander, Saphronicus, who proves to be of the treasonous party of Ar. Cabot and Marcus are placed under arrest, as spies. Primary forces of Ar, largely inactive in recent months, are now to pursue Cosian forces withdrawing from Ar's Station, through the vast Vosk delta to the sea. The Cosian forces, however, have avoided the delta and the delta campaign is a ruse to decimate the armed might of Ar, to use as a weapon the marshes and swamps of the delta itself, their treacherous, trackless wildernesses and wastes, the quicksand, the insects, the serpents and reptiles, the local populations, to deliver a final decisive blow to what was once the unchallenged splendor and power of Gor's finest infantry.

    Incomplete Without Renegades.
Vagabonds and Renegades are dependent on each other and Renegades was not released until recently in Audio Form. Both should be read before Magicians. These books are the true turning point in the story and with out both it would be hard to continue reading the story.

Players of Gor, book 20 of the Gorean Saga.
    Members Reviews:
Too much pontification too little story.
On the negative side, J. Norman spends altogether too much text expounding on his views of Gorean male/female dynamics and the Master/Slave relationship. It is repetitive in this aspect to the point of becoming tedious. Far too much time is spent expounding upon the details and propriety of the strong dominate male/abjectly subservient female roles, to the detriment of the book as a whole.
On the positive, the story, what there is of it, is entertaining enough involving a nice departure from Tarl's ( aka Bosk of Port Kar) usual sword swinging adventure to one involving some of the other strata of Gorean culture featuring characters that are in their own way every bit as cunning, creative, heroic, and proud as he. I only wish Norman had focused more on this aspect of the story and less on the other.
Players of Gor or Players and Salves of Gor?
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would be very hesitant about recommending this as a read to anyone. I would NOT recommend this book as an introduction to Tarl's adventures in Gor. It's lacking. Why? Because the book doesn't focus on the Players of Gor. For sure, the actual Players' characters are formed well. But not as great as Nomads of Gor. Not even close. That goes to the writing and background he's given to the characters of Nomads of Gor. In Players of Gor, the characters have a background. But there's little love if they live or die.
The "Monster's" identity was predictable... If you have read the previous books. Tarl seems to be a buffoon at times. I didn't think this went along with this previous thought processes and decision making. I understand John Norman is attempting to paint flaws into Tarl. However too many too quick. And very very poor choices. It was obvious he was being marked the moment he received the ribbon. It was obvious he was being laid into a trap when the free woman kept showing up around him, in what was supposed to be a "Rio-ish Carnival" atmosphere.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Most was Taskboot. Least was the woman who ended up being drugged and tied under a table (trying not to give anything away).
What does Ralph Lister bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He brings the imagination of the character's persona to the forefront.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Maybe. The "Game's" aspects were interesting. It would be nice to see how the game is actually formed in reality. They way the book went into it was well done.
    Any additional comments?
Overall this book was disappointing. It did have some good parts. But I see that it's the beginning of a new adventure for Tarl.

Realistic, Engaging Dialogue - Where Are You?
I KNOW I'm going to take heat for this one. So, like a flu shot, let's get the darn thing over with, for God's sake.
Let's review, shall we? A writer with skills? Seems so. His storyline? The same. Just go read the Audible short on the work. Yet, there's an issue here. If you read or, in this case, listen, to a good number of books, you'll understand where I'm headed.
If you're a great writer, or even a GOOD one, you constantly strive for a few things in your writing. Suspension of disbelief is one. A moving and deep storyline is another. Rich characterization is important, as well.
    But.
Without REALISTIC, ENGAGING DIALOGUE between the characters, all of the potential of the work will fall short. We've all started to read or listen to such novels, and as soon as the characters open their mouths, it's over. The message suffers. The momentum is lost.
The book is closed, the audiobook returned.
And in this case, it's a shame. The problem happens here - In droves. I thought of including specific text, but it's not necessary. Is the audiobook bad? No. But the work suffers, due to the dialogue. It's a soap-operatic. Over the top. in some cases, WAY over the top.
A word to Mr. Barnes: "Do NOT get rushed by your editor to put your next effort out so quickly, that the character's dialogue suffers, as in this work. Take your time, and write great dialogue. I look forward to your next work with keen anticipation."
Audible listeners, I don't write these reviews to cater to anyone, especially myself. I have to be true to the job at hand, to let the audiobook stand on its own merits. Or fall.
Sorry, Mr. Barnes. Maybe next time.
    Interesting story
I found the story very interesting, but I did not like the performer. I think I would have enjoyed the book more in print.
Dont miss this work of art!
The scope of the world that Barnes is creating maybe confusing in the beginning but the world evolves into something special. I recommend you pull up the reference chart on Mr. Barnes website with the list of characters. It helps you quickly see how the political intrigue comes together through the various houses.
    bland
    Any additional comments?
Nick Podehl is a wonderful narrator but the story was just too boring.

Glad this finally arrived as an audio book. I still have the paperback editions of all of these. I read them over and over. These are just as good. The story continues to build, as each book gives you a little more. Well worth it.

Narration is a bit choppy and haa a strangwly accented quality. I lile the story though

    Weak Resolution
A curiously disappointing and meandering conclusion to a truly brilliant and original triptych. Difficult to sustain interest in an endlessly messy Part 3.
Pretty good but not as good as the first two
What made the experience of listening to Restoration the most enjoyable?
    The reader was great.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The prince is a funny character.
Which character as performed by Kevin Stillwell was your favorite?
    All of them.
    Any additional comments?
In this last book the protagonist makes a few uncharacteristically unwise decisions that left me scratching my head. Those decisions seemed to drive the story to the desired conclusion the author wanted. The story got a little tiresome 3/4 of the way into it. The ending was good.
    Wonderful
It is a great story by a great author, and it was preformed very well
    love
love this story, great way to wrap up the series. Carol is an amazing weaver of tales.
    Great ending.
This was the wonderful end to a wonderful series. Totally worth listening too. Glad to have it wrapped up, unlike some other series.
