It is a masterpiece, a work of art, full of grotesques and plot machinations that you could simply not predict. A work of delightful eccentricity.

What other book might you compare Titus Groan to, and why?

The fact that I have come across nothing like it before is another mark of its calibre - a true original.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The novel is crammed full with elaborate and delicately wrought vignettes - to call any a 'scene' seems like sacrilege. I will say that most of the characters seem like mere caricatures at first but are crafted in such a subtle way that as you read on they become thoroughly three dimensional.

I would compare it to a box of jewels: each character and episode so diverse yet so captivating.

Would you consider the audio edition of Titus Groan to be better than the print version?

I've read some of the Amazon comments relating to book/kindle version - their reviews are better written than I can, echoing having read it as a child many times and being absorbed by this world created by Peake that can not be compared directly to anything else written.

What about Saul Reichlins performance did you like?

Having listened to the Millenium Trilogy also read by Saul Reichlin I knew I could trust listening to him throughout this Trilogy - and I was more than impressed. He has brought the characters and particularly the language to life in a way that I don't remember from reading it myself. He has been able to add more to it for me.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I have found it one of the ultimate experiences that a novel can give - to be lost in another world, be transported somewhere else in time and place, to visually see, to emotionally feel, and I can not imagine a better spoken performance than that given to us by Saul Reichlin.

Beautiful visual descriptions and bizarre characters

This is my favourite book, I've read and listened to Gormenghast repeatedly. The performance is great but a few of the voices put me off and broke the magic for me in places.

A marvelous story from start to finish; completely engrossing and a perfectly fabulous narrator! I could not stop listening - a gripping story of a woman's journey to discover herself after a horrendous series of events that would have damaged beyond recovery anyone else. Her bravery and strength made for edge of your seat adventure and the man who takes this journey with her made me redefine my definition of a Warlord! The "world building" is seamless and believable. And the narrator is marvelous, moving smoothly from male to female voices, with wonderful accents, and I never had to wonder who was speaking. I actually think I enjoyed this audiobook more than if I had read it. I give this author my highest recommendation, right up there with Grace Draven; please Ladies, write more books!

PETS AND HORSES WERE NOT ALLOWED IN THE CASTLE, EXCEPT FOR SERVICE ANIMALS

Funny in a chuckling way. A king takes his overly mothered boy to the local tavern and tells him the story of how he went from orphan to king. THINK OF THE STARVING PEASANTS AND EAT FOR THEM. The telling is full of references to the way we do things today, which adds to the fun. I enjoyed this and if Anderson writes any more like this I will listen to them. SELF RESPECT IS OVER RATED.

Fractured Fairy Tale

This amusing romp is free of bad language, steamy sex, and gratuitous gore--and is decidedly not for kids. Its wry commentary on modern business, deliberate anachronisms (an area is described as being suitable for a RennFaire--a futuristic event) and sly innuendos are not likely to be things that kids can relate to. On the other hand, those of us who belong to the demographic to which this book would have the greatest appeal might recall enjoying Rocky and Bullwinkle or Bugs Bunny when we too did not understand a lot of what was going on.

The narrator strikes just the right note for this tale, which is probably better experienced as an audiobook. Things that are amusing and unexpected when spoken often come off as forced in print.

What made the experience of listening to The Dragon Business the most enjoyable?

I have always enjoyed Kevin J. Anderson's storytelling. He knows just how to spin a tale to make it interesting and to feel real.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It felt a little scattershot sometimes, and I felt like the end was a touch unsatisfying, but all in all it was excellent. Especially if I assume there will be a sequel, then the feeling of "more is to come" will be justified.

What does James Langton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I liked the voices he did. Especially for Reeger.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't know if I'd say "moved", but I liked the reveal of the actual dragons. I honestly didn't see this coming.

Godsland just gets better with each book. His characters are deep and full of growth and there's a surprise around every corner. Did i mention DRAGONS? Not since Pern has there been such a complete world built around dragons, and Rathbone nails it! More Please!

Very repetitive

While I think the overall story could be interesting, they easy it was told made it painful to listen to. I can't count the number of times she wielded the most power she could contain and how she war so tired with no energy left to then get up and basically wield even more power and then be even more tired. I think the author was trying to convey a powerful struggle, but do to the repetitive description of house massive the struggle it fell flat for me.

I tried to finish it three times, but just couldn't make myself listen anymore.

I enjoyed the first book, but it seemed the author had a hard time describing epic battles. as the power grew in the struggles.

Enjoyed this story. I didn't consider it as strong as "Elfland" but it's a worthy follow-up.

what happened Freda?

I have been eagerly anticipating another book by Ms. Warrington since Elfland. All I can say is, what happened? The story line is dull, the characters are sophomoric with little depth and the dialogue is just plain dumb. Freda, I hope your muse returns before your next book!

It fell flat

Iâm not going to lie, when I first started reading this book I couldnât really get into it. It was probably due to a bit of anger that I wouldnât learn any more about Rosie and Sam and the fact that I didnât find the main character, Gil, to be very interesting.

Summary:

After tragic car accident, Gillian (or Gil), a former track star and Olympic hopeful, has fled to Scotland to mope and start the healing process. In an attempt to seek solitude, Gil is thwarted by a 6-week long art workshop by the famous Dame Julianna Flagg. When Gil wanders off in the forest, she discovers a place called Foundry. But when Gil mentions Foundry to others, it seems as though the place couldnât possibly exist. With old tales of children going missing, being taken away by fairies, and coming back mad, Gil isnât quite sure what sheâs discovered especially when a young man from Foundry comes looking for her.

My Thoughts:

I definitely had to warm up to this book. Itâs a rather creepy book where the characters are forced to deal with dark familial mysteries of the past. I just couldnât like Gil as a main character. I didnât find her story interesting, a famous athlete can no longer run and hides from her problems.. bleh. It seemed as though her character was just used to uncover all the mystery behind Dame J. However, as I read the book, I found it more and more intriguing. Rufus Hart made an excellent villain who can seduce and give extraordinary happiness and then rip it away. When Leith, the young man from Foundry, shows up in Cairndonan things start to get very interesting as Gil and Peta search to discover which of the long-lost children he could be.

Highly Entertaining Sequel

Where does Aladdin Sins Bad rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Very high. The narrator Paul Licameli really makes this book. All his voices and accents and sound effects make it amazing. He seriously is a one man show.

Aladdin is a character who is always getting into sticky situations with often hilarious results. I am now addicted to this series and can't wait to see what troubles Anthony and Rain have thought up for the hero to get involved in next.

What other book might you compare Aladdin Sins Bad to and why?

While I enjoy fantasy, I was never really big on Aladdin. I mostly prefer horror- but this has proved to be a delightful deviation for me. I can't think of the last time a book has had me actually laughing out loud as much as the ones in this series have.

These are just a few of the things Aladdin and his step-son encounter when they decide to get out of the house and so some male bonding.

Aladdin Sins Bad is second in the Rain/Anthony Aladdin Trilogy and it is even better than book one! The story moves very quickly and something either dangerous or ridiculous happens just about every five minutes.

Narrator, Paul Licameli, does a fun job of giving us very different character voices and knows how to ramp up the excitement levels whenever called for.

It's a very humorous fantasy series, told from the point of view of a man who is both smart and simple- (or perhaps single-) minded. I can recommend it for a light and funny listen.

Great Humor and Swordfighting

Another in the series of Tiger and Del who are both top of the line sword fighters for hire. Tiger, who hates magic--it makes him sick, discovers he has magic and is forced by the mage's of Skandi to learn how to use it. He went to Skandi to learn more about who he is and who his parents were. Of course he brought the Stud along with him. He never goes anywhere (voluntarily) without the Stud. Even when he is shipwrecked. There is a lot of humor, and action in all of the stories in this series. Plus the ongoing love story between Tiger, a Southroner and Del, a Northerner. Tiger and Del battle each other with swords and tongues over the proper place for a woman. Tiger battles challengers in the Circle who are trying to make a name for themselves by beating the number one swordfighter in the south. Tiger battles the Stud for a ride nearly every day. They battle Tanzeers trying to add Del to their harem or collection. The series is set in a primitive world caused by the aftermath of a great battle between 2 mage's. It is one of my all time favorite series. I just wish all of the books were available in Kindle format as I can no longer read my paper copies very easily. Can't adjust type size with paper copies unfortunately.

Finally the 5th sword dancer book

I read the original sword dancer series 1-4 in what had to be ten years or so ago. The dune series (father & son) along with the 1st four sword dancer books are my favorites. With so many years between books, one would naturally wonder if ever the series would continue. I am quit happy with this 5th, and know fans will be happy with it. This ones a little different being set in neither the south, north, or in between...boats and islands are the settings this time. Note: read the epilogue, a little something is thrown in at the end. Anyways, great book leaves watering for the 6th, how will they handle this...won't spoil it for you. Prospects sounds juicy though.

Great characters. They take a beating but keep ticking. I keep on reading.

Poor Tiger, another magical adventure.

In this book Tiger and Del make for Skandi, a country that apparently has people in it who look roughly like Tiger. They are beset by pirates and hi-jinks ensue. It's fairly well paced as Tiger is tested to his limit and back again. If you loved the first four books you'll love Sword-Born and of course it's companion Sword-Sworn. And if you haven't read the first four, do. It's a beautiful series.

Excellent writer, excellent story!

Really enjoyed it

This book started out a little slow, it took me a while to get into it. But then, somewhere towards the middle, it picked up pace and I could hardly "put it down". There's no magic or dragons in this book, mostly characters and politics. But as someone who doesn't enjoy politics-driven plots, this book has a rather different approach to it. While the storyline is being driven by politics and events, you're taken onto this ride with the characters rather than with the plot. You feel their pain and frustrations, their friendships and their losses. Overall, the book is well written and compelling. Most of the characters feel round and believable.

As for the narration: Joe Jameson did an outstanding job with this. He is an amazing actor, and he has such a skill for storytelling, he really makes the story come to life. He's one of the best narrators I've listened to.

On to the second book in the series. ;)

Too Many Plot Issues

Not really a "fantasy" novel - more like a historical, fictional tale set on a planet with 2 suns. Explanations are missing about the oddity of a place with 2 suns in which a spinning planet somehow has one or both suns in the sky 24/7.... until about 2 decades earlier when the greater sun disappears for around 15 years.

If you could sum up Moth in three words, what would they be?

gripping story telling

What other book might you compare Moth to and why?

His Dark Materials series. The mixture of magical realism, and told with such precision and depth makes this clearly my favorite audio book

What does Eva Kaminsky bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I have never listened to an audio book before. Frankly I thought a reader would be distracting but Ms Kaminski actually raised my enjoyment level. I have changed my mind abot audio books

Color me surprised. Audio books can be as great as reading yourself. Thanks.

UNINTERESTING!

I found the story slow and boring at times. I was able to finnish, but I had to alot of skipping. Sad part was I didn't really miss anything. When I skipped a chapter ahead it was way to easy to figure out what had happened. Did I mention it was predictable, well it was.

Day vs Night

Nice fantasy with an interesting premise.

Moth is set in a world split distinctly into two halves. One side in constant daylight, the other eternal night. As one would expect each half of the world has individual peoples and customs and both believe the other to be nothing more than myth, like the myth that once the world spun and night followed day.

That is of course until a girl goes missing from the light side of the world and is found murdered on the night side. This sparks of a series of events which send a simple gardener from the light side and a fisherman's daughter from the dark side on a journey to prevent a war.
