    A nice Dragonlance addition
    Any additional comments?
Overall this book fit well with other Dragonlance stories. It's fast paced and gets to the point fast. The only problem was while Clinton Wade's performance was okay is suffered in two areas - one was the way he pronounced GrayGem (think insetad of Gem it was Gum but with an 'E') and since it was the Chaos War it was said quite a few times. and the other was the Voices for the Dwarves was too gravely, i think a more normal low voice would've worked but they sounded more like demons, and too much alike. Other than those two points the book was enjoyable

A talented example of good writing
After the foreshadowing with the priest in the previous book in the series. I was still surprised at the plot development that took place in this book as author James manages to turn the obvious implications from the last book into something new and in true dungeons and dragons fashion. It all comes down to the wizard, the warlock and a blast of supremely overblown and fantastically flashy magic.
I expected it to be straightforward but it bobbed when I expected a weave and dipped when I expected a duck. In terms of writing, grammar and deliberate planning, it surpasses a large amount of other d'n'd based novels in the way it delivers elements of personal horror, action and felt provoking intellect all wrapped up in the overbearing Godhood that is Michaels Voice

    Great Elven Exiles
This is a great series that I am enjoying thoroughly. The twists and turns that the elves endure in the aftermath of the War of Souls has been extremely well executed. This is definitely my favorite post War of Souls trilogy.

Night of the Long Shadows by Paul Crilley
Night of the Long Shadows by Paul Crilley- This is the second book in the stand-alone novel series titled The Inquisitives. It's also the first book in The Chronicles of Abraxis Wren. The series is set in the Eberron setting of the pen and paper role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. The other novels in The Inquisitives are Bound by Iron by Edward Bolme, Legacy of Wolves by Marsheila Rockwell, and The Darkwood Mask by Jeff LaSala. The second book in The Chronicles of Abraxis Wren is the sequel to Night of the Long Shadows and is called Taint of the Black Brigade. Paul Crilley has written two other novels. His first he co-wrote with Tiffany Trent called Oracle of the Morrigan, which is the sixth book in the Hallowmere series. His other novel is to be released September 2010 and is the first book in the Invisible Order series titled Rise of the Darklings. Night of the Long Shadows was released in May 2007 and was published by Wizards of the Coast, Inc.
A professor at Morgrave University was found slain, with a man with dragon tattoos standing over his corpse. The witness, a dwarf named Torin, is thankfully a partner to an inquisitive named Abraxis Wren, who is called in to investigate the death. After Wren looks over the crime scene, he takes Torin and sets off to find the man with the dragon tattoos. As Wren and Torin uncover more about who this character is, the motives and reasoning doesn't sit right with the inquisitive. There must be more to this murder than it seems.
    Criticisms:
    1) Editing. This is the major problem I saw with the story, however, it doesn't impact the story too much. It was just bothersome. For example, within the first few chapters, we have a paragraph that was repeated. How does something like that happen? It did take me out of the moment and was a little frustrating to have to re-read what I've just read. Then later in the story, one of the last chapters to be exact, two names were mixed up. Now I could understand this mistake if the names were similar enough, but the only similarity was they both started with C. Also, I must note that neither Cutter or Col were in the scene together and on top of that, the chapter was focusing on Cutter. There were other, smaller mistakes, but nothing as bad as a paragraph being repeated or a name mix up. It was just sloppy editing.
    2) Dialogue Flow. Now this is a very minor issue with the dialogue. There were times when a conversation was happening that I lost track of who was saying what. Now this only happened once, that I can recall, in the story, hence why it's not a big issue, but it does require mentioning.
    Praises:
    1) Characters. I really enjoyed the two main characters. Cutter and Wren were just interesting foils to each other.

    Great reader
Would you listen to Untold Adventures again? Why?
    Some of the stories
Would you be willing to try another book from the authors? Why or why not?
I listen to this book to look for some writers I have not heard before and see if I enjoyed there writing style
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No it was great to listen to one story at a time depending on drive times
    Any additional comments?
Good short stories most were good a few great and one or two bad found some new writers I like and a reader I really enjoyed
    wonderful
Would you consider the audio edition of Untold Adventures to be better than the print version?
This was exactly what I wanted. There were a few short stories that have really stuck with me. I will be getting another anthology and hoping it will be as great! Yes I found it better than print, but I have bad eyes.
What about Michael McConnahies performance did you like?
Loved it, wide range of characters and deep rich tones.
    So so
    Any additional comments?
FYI there is much better detailed review of the text version on Amazon enumerating each story.
The narrator did a really good job but I really only liked a couple of the stories. Some had too much of the story as flashbacks or else too many different people and places, jumping around so that I had a hard time following what the story was and who was doing what (or who was even who). Some just didn't seem like an interesting story.

Book two of the exciting The Reluctant King trilogy
This second novel in de Camp's The Reluctant King trilogy pales in comparison to its predecessor but does continue the exciting, highly enjoyable story of Jorian and the wizard Karadur. After narrowly escaping Xylar with his head, Jorian wandered far from the Twelve Cities, finding himself in one deadly situation after another all throughout the land. All he really wants is a normal, quiet life with the chosen wife he had to leave behind in Xylar. At the beginning of this novel, he has secured a surveying job not far from Xylar, finally achieving some level of anonymity. As soon as he receives a message from Karadur, who has found his way to Iraz, asking his help and promising assistance in rescuing his wife from Xylar, imminent danger immediately appears in the form of Xylarian guards who recognize their unbeheaded king. Managing a wild, very narrow escape, Jorian makes his way to Iraz, where Karadur asks him to repair the gigantic water clock that his father originally built for the king years ago. Of course, things are never quite so simple for Jorian. This time, instead of meeting danger at every turn, danger comes to him in the form of a coordinated siege of Iraz. Can this Barbarian Savior save the kingdom, not to mention his own hide--again?
This novel is somewhat shorter than The Goblin Tower, but it seems to be much shorter. Compared to Jorian's earlier adventures, not a whole lot seems to happen in The Clocks of Iraz. There is a lot of buildup in the middle of this novel, and the only really exciting actions takes place at the beginning and end. On its own merits, it is still a great read, and Jorian's talent for telling fascinating stories to aid his cause makes him one of fantasy's more interesting characters (as does his habit of admitting how much everything bad that happens to him scares him). The conclusion is a little unsatisfying, but that is primarily because it sets the stage for the final novel of the trilogy. Be sure to read The Goblin Tower before reading this novel, especially since there are numerous references to past events included in the text. de Camp is one of fantasy's most gifted writers, and The Clocks of Iraz offers ample proof of his genius.

    Magic of geometry
Among fantasy books in which people are born endowed with magical talent, this book takes a different angle. (Ha, get it? Angle.) Geometric objects are the key to unlocking magic in this world, and I liked the story enough to read the next book in the series.
Fun and lively with a dash of romance
Usually when I pick up a book that very clearly focuses on a love story it ends up falling into horrible cliched traps that prevent them from being together. The author, seemingly fully aware of this fact loves to tease you with other novel's shortcomings. That being said its not just a cute little love story but also has a great fantasy setting. The story focuses on four youths forced into leadership while desperately trying to understand their awakening magic.
This is a great light read and I will be picking up book two.
Narrator doesn't fit, story line is juvenile
Would you try another book from Catherine Asaro and/or Melissa Hughes?
This is a story about a young girl and the narrator sounds like she's sixty, with a raspy voice that does not fit the character. The editing was also horrible, with a change in point of view between one sentence and the next, but no pause in the reading--I got confused a few times as to which storyline i was following.
This story line was very contrived, the main characters don't want to do things (like marry each other) and change their mind without any explanation. There isn't much depth, the female character has a revelation after being in the castle for a year that there are other countries outside hers that threaten hers, and maybe part of being queen is having to protect her country from threats.
I'm not going to finish the book, I gave up 2 hours in.
What didnt you like about Melissa Hughess performance?
Her voice is too old for the character, she shouldn't be reading young adult fiction.
Real depth to the characters and world
It takes some time to get into it, but this is the kind of thought out fantasy writing all too rare in modern authors. The characters and world grow as you read.
    This Might be Great But.......
I just can get past the Narrator. She takes a lot away from the story, some of her pronounciation really annoys me. So I won t finish this book or the rest of the series. She would be better reading childrens stories.

    A fun and magical journey
    Fantastic.
The second book to this magical story that is the Haven series. A great adventure that continues to captivate!
    Second book, same issues
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I might, the story is interesting but the same storyline issues occur.
Would you be willing to try another book from B. V. Larson? Why or why not?
    Of course
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
I'm usually hard on narrators because they can make or break a story. Mark actually brings a weaker storyline to life. So in my opinion instead of a bad narrator ruining a book, in this case Mark did the opposite and improved the story by his reading.
Did Sky Magic inspire you to do anything?
    Not really
    Any additional comments?
I suggest to those reading this book that the story concept is a good one, but go in understanding there might be a few storyline gaps that don't impact the over all story, but will be noticed.

A severed head and a cry of Witchcraft! start a frenzied witch hunt in a sleepy German village. When Konrad von Marburg, a Church inquisitor, arrives on the scene, innocent and guilty alike find themselves subject to the inquisitors violent form of purification.

It is up to the knights to discover the truth behind the brutal murder before the torches are lit and the woman is burned at the stake. Members Reviews:
    Good piece of back story
For those of you unfamiliar with 'Foreworld Saga', of which this story is a small tributary, a group of fantasy fiction heavy-hitters (Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, and the rest) have come together to flesh out a sprawling world around the time of the Mongol invasion of Europe.
Mark Teppo gets a crack at this prequel to 'The Foreworld Saga', adding to the no doubt ever-expanding canon of what promises to be an extensive epic.
In it, two of the 'shield-brethren' of the 'Holy Knights of the Virgin Defender' (none of who say, 'Ni!') meet for the first time. There's murder, accused witches, inquisitors of the Catholic Church. The knights, Andreas (the doer) and Raphael (the Renaissance man and thinker), follow the ethos of their order to help out the accused woman, in a village that is a microcosm of a time when paganism, Christianity and outright superstition (well, technically that last one is redundant) battle for supremacy.
Likely required reading for the hordes of 'Foreworld' fans-to-be, it works well completely separate to the universe it is born from, and indeed the detailed literary world it is spawned from lends immense texture. Mark Teppo's narrative is quite tight without being 'pulpy' in nature (some of the other Foreworld saga contributors can tend to be a bit enthusiastic with the details)
A good read for fans of historical fiction or fantasy alike.
    The Foreward Saga?
The story has an interesting premise and interesting characters. Would have liked more depth and background but I figured as a prequel there will be more coming. My error was not realizing the rest of the series are anthology's which I've never cared for. Authors collaborating is one thing but multiple authors writing their own stories is at best annoying and at worse a disjointed mess.
So while it was an interesting but short read, unless you enjoy anthologies, skip it.
    nice sidekick story
    Nice short story.
