It doesn't get any better than this!

A great book makes you want to play hooky from work, from everything except hearing the next words coming from the writer. Safe is that book. At times I laughed out loud, started to tear up, and was truly sad when it ended what seemed way too soon. The writing, the way characters were fleshed out until they almost stood in front of your eyes, was magnificent. I can't wait to read his next book and may have to listen to this one more time- it was that good!

Shark 8 Humans 2

Not a lot of meat to the story. However it was an enjoyable with characters that were okay although a bit one dimensional. By the end of the it was looking like this time the shark would win. There were some typos in the story but they aren't to much of distraction if spot them and then figure out what is misspelled. There is one passage that did have me scratching my head and that dealt with a reference to have escaped the men trying to kill Emily and Steve, the two major characters and the start of a romance. Despite the minor flaws in the editting this was an enjoyable for me.

Great story.

Good fast paced story. Very suspenseful will make you not want to stop reading. Only thing thing I didn't like was the size of the megs mouth which was unrealistic baced on what I know about megs.

dun dun dun dun

If you like monster shark stories, this should be on your must-read list. It is quite the ride! I had trouble putting it down as there were few 'slow' spots. Not classic writing, but a good story all the same!

Can't put it down!

This book reads like a roller coaster. It starts out slow and steady. When it gets to the top it takes off! There's no putting it down until it ends.

Going to any lengths- a good story, with caveats

Anna, a popular radio host of a regional network morning show, has just returned back to work from maternity leave. She is struggling to get used to the change and to the fact that her husband Guy left three months earlier. Things are going okay until one evening when Anna is taking her daughter Joni for an evening stroll along the beach, and is suddenly confronted by a seemingly out of it teen boy wielding a knife. Anna is able to defend herself and Joni using a sharp stick comb from her purse, but in doing so, fatally wounds the boy.

Self-defense is clear, and Anna must try to move on even though a very angry mob of people including the boy's mother and father start stalking her. For a while, the police protect her and public opinion goes in her favor.

But then the storyline strays into a morass of baseless assumptions, public overreactions, trumped up speculations of guilt, going so far as ruinous character assassinations and accusations of evil intentions akin to Satan's spawn. Anna's family members are a split jury, and those who arbitrarily decide she is guilty treat her with outright contempt, going so far as to hint to police that she might have a hidden motive. They make my family look like saints by comparison. Despite the fact that Anna had clearly acted in self-defense, and was not charged with a crime, her ex proclaims that HE wouldn't have killed to protect their child, so therefore, the baby would obviously be safer with him. Listened to only a few chapters!! Cannot go on

I was really looking forward to this book and downloaded it immediately after finishing the previous one. Bad idea. Narrator changed and I have tried and re tried to listen but cannot 'connect' to his accent, elocution or style. The narrator makes such a difference. Wasted credit, hey ho!

Disappointed

After reading a negative review about the change in narrator from the previous 2 books, I thought Id make my own decision. I lasted about half way through chapter 1, sadly I have to agree that even though I loved the first two books, I just cant engage with the performance, the diction is just sub par for this series of audio books.

Far too long

This is not the worst book I have ever read, but it's the worst David Baldacci book I've read. It's too long by many chapters, the characters are not well drawn and Web London is a plain silly name ! I really enjoyed the John Puller Series as well asThe Camel Club books but this stand alone is a poor example of Mr Baldacci's efforts.

This book started out good then quickly went down hill. The story skipped around and just did not flow well. I couldn't wait to be finished with this book. I won't be reading anything else by this author because her writing is just not that good.

Highly recommended

Excellent story, very well written, original and deeply engaging subject matter. Characters were extremely interesting and multi-faceted.

Para variar, la novela mucho mejor que la película. Una increíble combinación de historia de ciencia-tecnología aeronáutica y espacial con la de los movimientos sociales de los derechos civiles.

La traducción al español, tiene algunos problemas aunque se entiende bien y la narración es aceptable, pero muy monótona.

Slider Reliable

I enjoyed listening to this one. I haven't read all the Bill Slider series, but I have read a lot of them. I enjoy them, on the whole. The (minor) problem I have with them is possibly more of a comment on me than on the books: I have the same problem with the Charles Paris stories and quite a few others. I like Bill and Charles, but just occasionally, I'd like to see things go right for them. I know stories need reverses, but Slider just seems to have SO many. Early in the series, he falls in love with Joanna, but doesn't tell his wife. He faffs about and nearly loses Joanna. Then his wife leaves him. Hooray! Joanna... but hey, she's off on a long trip. Now I catch up and find out that though they're married, something else has gone wrong for them...

As I said, that might be just me. I like Atherton, and all the others of the team. I like the style, and Slider's dogged character. I like the details about music and policing. I'd just love to see him NOT get a bollocking for doing his job properly. Come to think of it... I often get annoyed with those books or series where a talented amateur solves a lot of the crimes and yet the police are forever telling him or her to butt out.

If you enjoy Slider though, this is a solid entry. I enjoyed the narration, too.
