Most every parent gets to a point where they’re more parent than friend and it can sometimes be easy to forget the importance of establishing a friendship with your children. Doing and talking about things that they value and that interest them is a key to establishing a bond with your kids. Each of our kids has a different need to connect like some of our kids need words of affirmation while others may want to wrestle and touch us. Doing what you say can be a large part of building trust with your children and establishing a good relationship that will last through to adulthood.

They want you to be serious because when you’re serious it helps them to feel safe, but they want you to be silly and play with them, but obviously in a way that they want to be connected, not just silly for the sake of being silly.” 6:06
