Amiga, Handle Your Shit

How to Set Boundaries with Gilza Fort Martinez

Listen Later

Has it ever happened to you to be in a situation where you needed to say no and set a clear boundary for yourself, but your emotions took over, and you couldn’t do it? If this is the case, don’t be too hard on yourself. Setting boundaries seem easy, but most people have trouble with it. Saying no it’s not only the act of pronouncing this simple word. It also involves dealing with conflicts, confrontations, and the possibility of disappointing others, which many people feel uncomfortable with. Setting clear boundaries it’s difficult, but it's something all of us can learn to do with practice and by taking small steps toward our self-care.

Today’s guest, Gilza Fort Martinez, a bilingual licensed marriage and family therapist, will tell us why it’s so difficult to say no and what we can do to start setting clear boundaries for ourselves and learn how to give space to ourselves.

Gilza Fort Martinez is a bilingual licensed marriage and family therapist with over 25 years of experience in conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, women’s challenges, and life transitions. A graduate of the University of Miami, Gilza is the founder and CEO of Resolution Counseling Center, a private practice in Miami, Florida. Her passion for helping individuals improve their lives drives her to continuously find ways to reach the community, which is why when she’s not working directly with individuals and couples, she can be found leading a workshop or lecturing on a wide range of topics, including stress management, building intimacy, improving communication effectiveness, infidelity and forgiveness, and navigating life transitions.
