Hyde or Practice

Andrea Bastug is Director of Hamilton Selway and our hearts! She does us the MAJOR solid of starting from the very beginning! School, internships, moving, debt, cold emails, and more! She's an incredible resource and not only in regards to her career but also into the markets of editioned works and secondary markets- vital components of the Art World Ecosystem© (lol I made that up) and how they can be incorporated into any artist's practice and collector relations! We end talking about what is in her Artworld Survival Kit© (I'm on a roll) and this is not an ep to be missed!

Guess who is back!?!?! - VANESSA PRAGER - who is even more generous with her spirit and knowledge the second time around. Prager created her current show Diane Rosenstein, (seriously if you're not familiar click through so you know what kind of genius we are talking to) while pregnant and she talked to us VERY SOON after having a baby!?! And she's still painting?! She goes through her career, her practice, how things evolve, how her self-esteem has evolved and the amount of GENUINE GOLD she gives us is staggering.

Trying to make RAQs a thing! People have been asking things like "who gets to show at a fair?" "should I put an art fair on my cv?" "how many pieces of works should I have before a gallery will be interested?" and we tackled them in today's episode

It's impossible to find a place to start when you're trying to describe a conversation with Gabriel Kilongo - the Founder and Director of Miami's hottest gallery, Jupiter Contemporary. Geographically his story starts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and career wise it is in the kitchen of Brice Marden's studio washing dishes. Don't believe us? Take a listen to hear this incredible journey where Kilongo reminds us that diligence, hard work, networking, good taste and perseverance can get you where you want to go - and that the experience you get along the way will serve you more than you know in your future!

Everyone is pretty familiar with the difference between a gallery and a museum, but where do art fairs fit in? With everyone in Miami (at the time of recording) Erika and Alexis decided to break it down - what is an art fair? Who goes? Who participates? And why are people flying all over the world and spending quite a bit of money to do it?

Our hosts Alexis and Erika talk about what surprised them most about entering into the art world, the importance of soft skills, the difficulties in networking when you're an introvert, and training yourself to engage anyway!
