ENCORE EPISODE!  We get so many questions re: legal art stuff so we thought it was a good idea to release this ep with, no joke, one of the world's preeminent art ligitagors! Don't believe us? Google him.

Erika and Alexis speak with Luke Nikas, a partner at Quinn Emanuel's NY office and Co-Chair of the firm's Art Litigation and Disputes Practice.  He takes us through the evolution of Art Litigation over the last 20 years and why it has exploded in the way it has. Also, what is litigation? What is litigatable?* What are your rights to your images and works as an artist and how can you protect yourself before and after the creation of your work? It's an INCREDIBLY educational episode regarding the tangential legal issues that surround the art world and everyone should listen, because it's more than either of the host's knew about and you're probably more protected than you thought. Bookmark this one, because if you don't need it now, you will in the future!

*Did Alexis make up the word litigatable? The autocorrect on this typing says no, but her enthusiasm in the episode says yes!

Heads up, a few little audio glitches but that is the price to pay for podding on the internet! Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Suzana Poghosyan looked at the art world and thought, "some of this is broken", and instead of moving on decided to do something about it! She co-founded The Honey Pump, a visual arts agency that would connect artists with projects and they are making things happen. Trained as an artist and and arts admin (MFA during a pandemic, no bigs) and cutting her teeth in Leo Villareal's studio, who better to take on the art world? Literally no one if you ask us! Listen in for incredible inspiration and info on how to get going through struggles and taking on systemic problems head on!

Strap in guys, we have an incredible interview with multimedia artist and disability activist Sharona Franklin! We'll get it out of the way and say yes, we do talk about how she (one artist, disabled body, in Canada) is taking on Gucci! We also talk about community, support, teachers, education in general, access and a whole mess of incredible topics. When you get to the end you'll see how we had to pull the cord b/c we could keep talking to her forever. She is frank and honest and smart and candid about the realities of her life and work and I (alexis) can guarantee listening to this will galvanize something in you for the better. Honestly. Also, Sharona is moving and as you'll hear everything is more difficult for her so if you have a few bucks you could throw her way, it would be much appreciated. RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS Y'ALL!

Fresh off Art Basel Miami, she generously shares with us the importance of pivoting and being nimble in the face of adjustments, the constant nature of the art fair business and how instagram impacts her mental health! This week Alexis and Erika speak with Arts Professional Jane McCarthy and it is a PLEASURE! Jane has a Masters, has worked with museums, galleries, artists, now at UCLA, like...could you ask for a more well-rounded and seasoned interviewee to round out Season 3? It would be a TOUGH JOB! She is eloquent and her advice is SOUND and she is in Hawaii right now riding out the quarantimes so she obviously has incredible decision making skills! Seriously though, her wisdom for biz side of art is invaluable and honestly, this is a MUST LISTEN! OK, until next season!

Daniel Chen, co-owner of Chambers Fine Art, spoke to Alexis and Erika about all things gallery/art/music in times of cov!d! Trained as a musician and owning a gallery gives Chen incredible insight into both sides of the art world: as a creator and the infrastructure for sales. The gallery had some interesting and productive changes and Daniel was able to have the time and space to make some great decisions about how he would be operating the gallery on the most fundamental levels going forward. Alexis may have convinced everyone to move to LA.

This week we look back on our interview with curator AJ Girard! If you missed his debut exhibition Shattered Glass In LA or in Miami, don't worry! The New York Times covered it here!

Alexis and Erika spoke with curator AJ Girard this week about finding a place in the art world and what that means to him and how that journey is continuing. Why is it important to him to always be a student? What does he mean when he says "your perspective is perfect"? We are people worrying about other people forgetting Rembrandt? No one is forgetting Rembrandt! Tune in and EXPAND YOUR MIND! The generosity of his journey is definitely worth your time! Heads up - Alexis swears a lot in this one and we didn't beep it out!

This one is a little different for us, but the applicable thoughts Cissie Fu drops on us are the the types of gems we will be revisiting for years. Erika told Alexis Cissie is one of the smartest person she has ever met, and was she ever right! She goes over the learnings of covid and the processing And internalization and you know what...you have to listen b/c it’s honestly a disservice to try and blurb her.
