Listen, I know it doesn't make sense out of context, but the title for this one came DIRECTLY from the episode. So even though it sounds like vague mumbo jumbo, I promise it means something. Gotta listen to the episode to find out what :)
Jake, Andrew, and Michelle are back for their final discussion on intellectual bypassing, bringing it back to their personal experiences and how they interact with people close to them.
For this episode, we discuss the following video by Heidi Priebe:

As a disclaimer, we don't necessarily endore this (or any other) source we discuss on the show. We don't know anything about Heidi Priebe other than this video; we took it as a jumping off point for discussion, nothing more or less!

Are guilt and shame useful concepts? Are they powerful tools to shape our own behavior, or do they only serve to keep us focused on the past? Jake, Andrew, and Michelle discuss their differing opinions on this episode, as we continue our discussion from last week on Intellectual Bypassing.
We also share our thoughts on the adaptive human brain: how all of our behaviors serve a purpose, and how understanding that purpose can help us remain in control.
For this episode, and the next few, we discuss the following video by Heidi Priebe:

Episode 10!! Our first major milestone, and we've got all three of the JAM band together for this one! Jake, Andrew, and Michelle start to discuss "intellectual bypassing" of emotions, and what they think about that idea. Just what is "intellectual bypassing"? Ha!! Nice try. You're going to have to listen to the episode for that!

Welcome to a very special episode of HI, where Michelle brings poetry written by your very own special guest cohost Jake! In like, elementary school! It's actually really good. Together they reminisce in this lighter episode, unpacking what they can and enjoying everything else.
They also discuss magic! Wait, no. Not that. They discuss Magic, with a capital M, as in Magic: the Gathering, the card game from which Jake has drawn many life lessons! Michelle and Jake discuss taking time to pause, avoiding results-oriented thinking, and maybe even sometimes allowing yourself to be an inconvenience to others.

Michelle and Jake finally tackle the final two "rules for life"! Do insights come from introspection or human interaction? How much can we trust our intuitions? Do we learn new skills, or remember them from a previous life? Hear Michelle and Jake's perspectives in this episode!
This is Jake's penultimate episode on the show... for now. I've got some ground to make up with my fandrews. I don't see the social media channels, but I'm sure Jake's been wildly popular. Don't worry friends, you get one more week of him!

In this epsiode, Michelle's eldest Jake returns to TEAR APART and SET ABLAZE these overgeneralized "rules for life"! I'm half-kidding; Jake and Michelle offer some nuance to well-tread proverbs such as "the grass is always greener" and "you had everything you need inside you all along", pointing out where they're useful, where they're not useful, and where they're just plain wrong.
You'll also get to hear a bit about how Jake takes insights that he learns playings games, and applies them to the real world. Spoiler alert: in the next two weeks, you'll hear even more of that from Jake. As it turns out, games can be a really great tool for understanding life.

Surprise!! Michelle has another kid! His name is Jake, and you get to meet him in place of Andrew today!
Well, he's not really a kid anymore, but Jake definitely is his mother's son. In this epsiode, Jake and Michelle make introductions and talk about parenting, control, and what it's like to feel like you have to please someone, especially when you don't know what they want.
Andrew's note: For all you Andrew fans out there (or Fandrews, as I like to call you), don't worry; Jake and I are basically the same person. Just kidding. We're not. But, if you like me, you'll like him. And even if you don't like me, you'll probably like him. He's a pretty likeable guy. You'll see.
Anyway, I'll be back in a few weeks. Mega thanks to Jake for stepping in as a guest. One of these days we'll record some episodes together with both of us. It'll be a good time.

In this episode, Michelle and Andrew discuss four more "rules for life" that all center around lessons. Are all mistakes really opportunities for growth? How can we find (or create!) the lessons in our lives? Do lessons repeat themselves over and over to us until we learn them? We discuss all these questions and more on this week's episode!

There's a lot of talk out there about this rugged determination called "grit". But is it as universally helpful as some claim? In today's episode, Michelle and Andrew take a nuanced approach to grit, and explore how it's taken shape in their lives.

In today's episode, Michelle and Andrew set the intention to be grounded. Andrew gets some clarification on what that means. Michelle brings an article about "rules for being human". Naturally, we only get through one of the rules, because that's just how we are. We'll come back to examine more rules in future weeks, don't you worry.
