  • Decorating Christmas

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Good morning, thank you for tuning in this morning. As we look around we see the beautiful decorations on television as they  broadcast the over the top breath-taking Christmas decorations from around the globe.  This morning I was to say to you as we hang and exchange decorations, yes I said exchange decorations, see I don’t want to label them as gifts or even presents this morning, but decorations.

By definition decorations refer to ornaments and additives used to honor or bring value to a thing or situation. To decorate is the ornamental aspect which solely focuses on external beauty and significance. See we have made a habit during this season of focusing on or exchanging things that have an external significance, through the adding of external and material things to give it value.

We decorate our homes to celebrate the birth of Christ and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, as a matter of fact we should put more effort into the entire celebration of God entering the world wrapped in flesh.  For there is no birth greater than the birth of Jesus, The Christ.

  • Decisions & Choices

We Want To Hear From YOU!

You know when you are young and your parents and grandparents try to instill a little wisdom in you, you reject it, discounting their words and old folk tales and old timey irrelevant rhetoric.  But as you mature and go through some valley, and endure some of the bumps and bruises life brings you come to realize that maybe they knew what they were talking about, as some of their old sayings begin to make sense.

My dad used to tell me all the time that life is about choices, every part of our lives is about one choice after another.  Choices what to do when things are tough, even when everything seems to be falling in line, a choice of how to respond to this situation or that issue, we have to make a choice even as to whether we align our truth with the  Word of God or proclaim our own truth.

Practically everyday I find myself in conversations where I am helping people maneuver through their lives and the simplest most popular response of Christians is pray.  Pray is awesome, I wouldn’t want to face life in this world without having an open line of communication with God.  But can we just be real for a moment, most times when we are faced with a situation, that requires a decision, our first inkling is not to pray and the reason why is because we feel like when we pray, that requires patience and although patience my be a virtue, we have not programmed our spirit or our mindset to embrace virtuousness, so here we sit facing an issue, with no patience.

Somebody say, so what do we do Pastor?  I hear you all out there and I am going to tell you what to do.  What I am about to tell you all is only for those who truly believe in God, who understand and embrace his omnipotence, meaning that He is all powerful and His omniscience, meaning he is all knowing and his omnipresence, mean that He is everywhere in every time and space.

Now if that is you then here is my advice to you when you are faced with having to make some tough choices. Make your decisions, make your choices as if God Himself is manifested in the flesh right there beside you.  See it’s easy to forget the omnipresence of God because our flesh is inclined to operate according to the principle of out of sight out of mine.  But when you pause for a moment and come to terms with your love of God you will embrace the covenant relationship that he has made with you which promises each one of us that He will never leave or forsake us, we may forsake him but he will never forsake us, we may leave or ignore His presence, but he will never leave or ignore our presence.

So whatever is on your plate approach it with the truth that God is right there with you, he can see you, hear you and even knows your heart. Let your faith in who He is as God steer your decisions with wisdom and humility,  not selfish or ungodly agenda.

Believer or should I say Christian love to quote Isaiah 54:17 which proclaims no weapon form against me shall prosper. But rarely do you hear people finish that versus which goes on to say “This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord. See no weapon form against servants of the Lord shall prosper.  Servants of the Lord live their lives and guide their decisions to please Him above all else. And no weapon formed against those who see to please Him in all they do will ever prosper.

It’s true life is about one decision after another, and it's your decisions that reveal who you serve.

  • GOD'S WILL vs Our Free Will

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Someone asked me this question once: I recently decided to marry a non-Christian man, but he is “open” to hearing about my faith.  I know I did not follow God’s “perfect will” for my life, but isn’t it God’s “permissive will”?

This question takes me back almost 30 years, in Christianity.  It was in the mid to late 80’s when I first began to hear the catchphrase words of “God’s permissive will Vs God’s perfect will” for our lives.

The idea represented by these phrases implies that God has a unique and perfect plan for each one of us.  It is a plan that he has designed to bring us the greatest good for our lives, and the greatest happiness.  However, flawed humans that we are, for a wide variety of reasons, we do not always “find” that path he desires for us, but very often end up taking a detour route along the way.  These detours, since we are still Christians, become a part of God’s plan for our lives, because He loves us and will never forsake us or leave us.  (Deut 31:6, purposely misquoted out of context).

There are a variety of problems with these concepts and this line of thought.  For starters, these phrases and ideas are not biblical concepts though often many biblical texts are quoted to back them up.

For example, it has been stated that God’s “perfect will” for Israel was that they enter into the Promised Land, directly from their departure of Egypt.  However, they got detoured along the way and ended up following God’s “permissive will” for their lives, the 40 years of wandering in the desert.  Clearly God did not leave them or forsake them during this period, and their detour became a part of God’s plan for their lives, his “permissive plan”.

The problem with this type of mentality or thinking, is that it tends to justify sin.  It eradicates right and wrong, transforming them into just a series of choices.  It turns the clear-cut directives of God into a gray area for our existence.

When you and I choose to follow God’s “permissive will” we are choosing to DISOBEY GOD, and that is sin!

It is not a matter of me making a choice to settle for less than what God has prepared for me.

It’s not a magnanimous or humble decision for me to say, I’m happy enough with this option.

  • BE FRUITFUL: Not Low Hanging Fruit

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Be fruitful and multiply this is a mandate of God.  The shallowness of our mind leads us to believe the scripture is referring to the producing of children.  In one natural respect it is, but we also know that God is all about the Kingdom of Heaven, which is about souls.  To be fruitful is about being committed to the planting of seed God’s way, the fertilizing of the soil God’s way as well as obtaining and maintaining a harvest God’s way.

Fruitfulness is about fertilizing the soil in our lives and bring forth souls as fruit as a harvested offering to the Kingdom of God.

You can physically produce all the children your heart desires and that your body can produce, just like you can draw in enough people into a church building where all that is left is standing room only, but if God is not the center of your purpose if what you have accomplish does not exalt of God and the Kingdom of Heaven, then all you have done, all you have accomplished is for naught.  If the fruit produced cannot be presented to be feasted upon at the Kings table, then it is of no benefit to the Kingdom.

In Matthew 7:16 the scripture tells us  “You will know them by their fruit,” Jesus gave the illustration of grape vines and fig trees. When we see grape vines, we expect them to contain grapes in season. We also expect fig trees to produce figs. A produce farmer who notices one of his fruit trees not bearing harvestable fruit, he deems it useless and cuts it down.

In Mark 11:1, )Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem,  and He was hungry and saw a fig tree in the distance that had leaves on it . When he came to the tree expecting to  find something to eat, instead discovered that the fig tree had no fruit on it and cursed the tree saying, “May no fruit ever come from you again!”

See at a distance the tree look good, it look like it had bore fruit, but when Jesus approached the tree, to pull from it fruit, he was able to see that there was actually not fruit on the very tree that looked like it was full of life

Symbolically, the fig tree represented the spiritual deadness of Israel, who while very religious outwardly with all the sacrifices and ceremonies, were spiritually barren because of their sins and their disobedience to God.

  • The Kingdom Is Hiring

We Want To Hear From YOU!

This morning I want to talk to you specifically about what every manufacturer needs to get his message and brand to the masses, that’s marketing executives.  And the Kingdom of God is hiring.  If you research the description of a marketing director you will find that A marketing executive is primarily responsible for developing and implementing marketing campaigns that promote a company's products or services.

You will be happy to know that each of us is experienced and have the potential to do well in this position.  Because the bottom line is everyone is marketing something whether intentionally or unintentionally, the only question is what is it, specifically, you are marketing?

Some are marketing the brand they have created for themselves, regardless whether it aligns with the mandate of the Kingdom’s designer label or not while others are marketing knockoffs as they are trying to co-brand with the Kingdom.

Again the Kingdom is hiring, but the positions are full-time, with 24 hour on call responsibilities, and require that you promote only one brand, and that your means of promotion be aligned with the manual of the Holy Scriptures and the manual is clear that your personal life, is not considered separate from your obligations to the position and the Kingdom of God.

Turn with me or click your electronic devices to Mark 1:14 as I read through the 20th verse.14 After John was put in prison, (let’s just stop her and not that John went to prison because of his commitment to the Kingdom of God, John wouldn’t keep his mouth shut about what he knew was against the will and mandate of God, so you get the picture of the dedication that is required when you are committed to the work of the Kingdom of God)  Scripture continues by saying, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

At the time John was the best marketing executive the Kingdom had, so when he imprisoned Jesus, God in flesh had to step in to make sure the message of the Kingdom went forth.  Then made an executive decision to hire a team.

  • JESUS - The root of our thanks

We Want To Hear From YOU!

Jesus hung and died to pay our sin debt, The gift of Jesus was God paying off our largest credit account, an account that, regardless of our resources, we could never pay.

The gift of His Son, continuously meets our greatest need, the Apostle Paul said in ,(2 Corinthians 9:15).  "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"

As we give thanks to God this holiday season, let us not be consumed with the self-centered assets and grace God has given us individually, let be sincere in thanking God for Jesus, for allowing his son to lay down his life for our sin. Let us thank God for  access to His Kingdom, for his invitation to spend eternity with Him.

Many say, I would rather have Jesus than silver and gold, but their prayers, their thanksgiving do not reflect such a proclamation.  Lord today we thank you everything  you have given us, every act of grace you have extended to us and every example of mercy you have shown us, but today we just the bow before you throne to say thank you  for the greatest gift  of all we thank you for Jesus.

  • King Josiah and I

We Want To Hear From YOU!

This past Sunday God spoke to us about brands, and how labels and tags can be a curse and a blessing. How some labels lead us down wrong paths exalting what is not godly, while other labels and tags, can cause us to be set apart and help assure us that we reach the destination God has intended.  If you did not hear the message go back pull it up it will bless you.

This morning I want to talk to you about a King in the bible whose legacy is righteousness, but who is also the least talked about King in the bible.  King David is known as a young child taking down Goliath.  King Solomon was considered the wisest man who ever lived And King Saul was known for unifying the tribes of Israel.

But the King I am talking about is King Josiah, he didn’t physically slay any giants, he may have been a man of intelligence, but certainly was not considered the wisest nor was his claim to fame undergird in a big feat of unity.  King Josiah was known simply for being righteous.  When he became King at such a young age, all he knew was to follow the traditions and teaching of his forefathers.

But one day someone brought to him the law of God and when he read it realized that all that he was doing was wrong, out of the will of God and not aligned with the plan of God. In 2 Kings 22 scripture said when he heard the word of God, he tore his robe
