On today’s show we’re excited to talk with longtime NeuroSpark member, Anne Gould-Ruete. Anne is a Health Coach and Board Certified Neurologic Physical Therapist specializing in working with people with Parkinson's and other chronic conditions. She has a passion for supporting people in understanding the foundational aspects of health and wellness and making healthy lifestyle changes that will help them live their best lives.
Although she continues to do a mix of therapy, teaching and health coaching she recently found a desire to go beyond what she was able to do in traditional therapy sessions and build a new business and model that provided her clients with the tools to understand their barriers to a better life and create lasting behavior change.
This is a great episode for anyone who wants to work with people beyond a traditional model of care and who is interested in expanding what the healthcare system could look like.

We are excited to interview a brilliant educator and kindred spirit, Dr. Alison McKenzie, today on the show! Dr. McKenzie is a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Chapman University She enjoys combining her extensive clinical, research, and teaching experience in her role as a faculty member and is committed to giving back to the community and profession through service. Over the years, Dr. McKenzie has served as a teacher/mentor to thousands of students, clinicians, and faculty members. She has received several awards over the years, including the California Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association's Royce D. Noland Award of Merit, the American Physical Therapy Association's Societal Impact Award, and she is Chapman's only 4-time winner of its top faculty award, the Valerie Scudder Award for Outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service.
We first met her nearly a decade ago at a continuing education course that we still remember and use notes from! Dr. McKenzie developed a bootcamp for people post-stroke in 2010 that is interdisciplinary and has evolved and expanded in amazing ways since then. She shares information about the program and we discuss what it might look like to create this type of program for those listening and more.

On today’s episode we welcome one of our most favorite people, Dr. JJ Mowder-Tinney. She is the lead instructor in our NeuroSpark program and is such an engaging educator! She joined the show today to discuss something she’s been pondering and reading more of the research about lately and that is autonomy. She’s going to share specific examples of how this can be used even in very subtle ways you may not have thought about during client interactions but that will enhance outcomes and improve your patient alliance. You’re definitely going to leave with some new ideas to try after listening!
